    Re: Tiger Impressions Thread

The last golf game I've played was Links 2004. What is better or worse in Tiger 06 when comparing the game w/ Links 2004?

    Thanks.

I find it challenging. Now I find myself looking at an approach shot and trying to hit the ball high to create backspin and roll it back towards the hole. (wow, thats what they do in real golf!) That is the only way you can spin it by where you aim the cursor on the hit stick. (pre-shot) However online, I havent seen too many people play under the tour difficulty which bums me out.

Take this game for what its worth, a fun game to sit back a drink a few cold ones and talk smack with your buddies. Real sim its not but a fun game it is.

        Toughts:

        1. The game does seem tougher than the past few console versions.
        2. Driving accuracy is still too good. I can still hit fairways a little too easily and my character has still has low driving accuracy ratings.
        3. Long iron accuracy is much tougher to control this year. Sometimes my long irons go right where they're supposed to go and sometimes it sprays off to the sides... or way short.
        4. Most clubs (aside from short irons) don't fly as far through the air but roll more so shaping the shot is an absolute must. This does make it much tougher on longer holes than on shorter holes.
        5. Putting is better than last year but not perfect. It's possible to miss short putts now so at least there's some way to keep scores up.
        6. With my character, whose skills are pretty low, on tour difficulty playing from the back tee with the rest of the course set to easy conditions I'm having trouble breaking par. In fact, I posted a 75 at Kapalua my first time out. This much at least I'm loving.

Great impressions Ryman and Lomb. I don't have that game but am kicking the idea around of getting it. So do you guys not increase the attributes of your created player to keep the game challenging?

Is there custom soundtracks in the game? How's the EA trax or should I not even ask, lol.

            Nice thoughts,
Regarding 1. If anyone has played Links, then this is the case as well. Drives are too easy. Going 13/14 in fairways hit in that game wasn't all the uncommon.

Still though I hope that the game would remain somewhat difficult. We'll see.

Can you set your own room up and make the settings default for everyone?
Thanks for the impressions and answers...most appreciated!

                1. You can mess around with alot more sliders to make it easier or harder. For instance they have Tiger tees, which are tougher than the black tees, mess around with the wind, rain, tiger proof courses (narrow fairways), speed of fairways, greens, length of rough, and to top it off play it without turbo boast and after-swing spin. Alot more choices this year.

2.No custom soundtrax, but the EA trax isnt that bad.

Yes, its just like the lobby in Madden. Its funny that you asked that because I created a room last night under the Tour mode and sat there for 20 minutes by myself before I said screw it and left.

Kapalua has been a putting nightmare for me. Its a great course to work on that part of your game. I love this game too, they are headed in the right direction, but its baby steps.

I believe it has 9 real courses and 3 fantasy courses.

I think it has 15 real courses and a few fantasy courses... not sure.

I think the Xbox 360 version is only going to have 9 courses.

The courses are absolutely fantastic this year.

                              The real courses are:
                              Pebble Beach
                              Pumpkin Ridge
                              Reflection Bay
                              Sahalee
                              Troon North
                              Cog Hill
                              Pasatiempo
                              Doral
                              Bethpage Black
                              St. Andrews
                              TPC Sawgrass
                              Kapalua

                              The fantasy courses are:
                              Greek Isles
                              Red Rock Creek
                              Central Park
                              (Random 18)

So, 15 total, of which 12 are real ones. The real ones provide excellent variety as well. A couple of US Open type courses that stress length and accuracy. A couple of desert courses. A couple of target golf courses like Sawgrass and Doral. Pasatiempo reminds me of Riviera, which is fun, a lot of elevation changes and sidehill lies. St. Andrews is the links course. Kapalua is just freaking long and tough to putt on. Just a heck of a lot of variety. I think this is the best year for courses in the Tiger Woods series. Plus, they look a little better. I can't putt my finger on it, maybe it's just a tweak in the color palette, maybe a tweak in the rendering engine, but they look a little more beautiful than last year.

Oh, and loading times are faster. Wee!
