    Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread

I'm not as good as you guys but I shot a career low 82 today in our Fathers day league outing. Everything just seemed to be going great.

Worst part is that my goal for the summer was to break 80. I got to the 18th tee needing a birdie to do so but I dubbed my first shot of the day into the small pond in front of the tee.

Hypothetically, ignoring the penalty, I would have went on to leave myself with a 8 foot birdie putt (which I missed anyway) but had to take a disappointing double.

Next weekend I'm headed to Philly for a golf and baseball weekend so hopefully I can keep playing as well as I did today.

Never been much of golfer, but I played yesterday for the first time by myself (usually play strictly scrambles) and shot a 45 on 9. Started off with 2 triples then really started hitting the ball well. No birdies, but closed out with 3 par's which is unusual for me.

Took my dad out for a round of 9 for Father's Day and I shot a 57. Hit some really good drives but my mid game needs much work and I'm not good at lining up putts either. Good news is I was improving my scores over the last 3 or 4 holes.

Can't stand to watch golf or follow it really, but as a kid I liked to play it at both mini golf and had my own set of golf clubs when my grandma went to go play.

Thinking once I finish college in a few years or after this year atleast I might go buy a set of clubs to try to get into it.

i never thought i would be as into it as I am now. But, the game is the ultimate test to yourself. You learn that you can choose to play the game truthfully and honestly - or you can cheat yourself and never know what it feels like to shoot your lowest round ever.

I can't think of another game you can play that has these types of tests. Golf really is more than that.

So which one of these are we using? There's one in the Golf section too. Can we get a merge?

Merged, it's funny because both threads were started by CB.

Nice round kehlis. Your Father's Day outing went a lot better than mine. We shot a -6 on Saturday which put us in 1st flight. Then my uncle decided he would forget how to golf, and we only shot a -2 yesterday. It was basically a 2-man scramble instead of 3. It was that bad. We had 4 putts lip out and about 10 that burned the edge. Ugh.

1st time posting in this thread. Glad to see there is one for it.

Been playing golf my whole life. Dad was a pro, grandfather was a scratch golfer. My whole family is full of golfers so it was only a matter a time before I joined in.

2 years ago I had reached the peak of my game, Was down to a 3 handicap, irons and 100 yards and in were dialed. Have always been somewhat erratic with my driver but I'm very long off the tee, and when I'm driving the ball well, I can score.

Unfortunately a shoulder injury had sidelined me and this year was the first since that I had picked up the sticks and went out and played. Was on a trip back home when I did.

We took the drive over to TPC @ Deere Run where they play the John Deere Classic. Have played there many of times when I used to live relatively close. For the first time out I was pleasantly satisfied with my round. Shot 76 with three 3 putts. The feel I used to have on the greens has diminished a little bit but my iron play is still pretty solid. Drove the ball decently, but had to scramble a few times to save par. Played with my buddy who is trying to get on the Nationwide Tour. He shot 71. It was great to get back out and play, and hopefully can get dedicated again and give it one last run.

                        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Had my first round of the year on Sunday and I got to us my new clubs (R11 Driver and Burner 2.0 irons). I played Wyndance (Ontario), a Greg Norman designed course.

It started out HORRIBLY!!! I posted a 60 on the front nine. I cannot remember ever shooting that high. The back 9 I shot a 43, with 1 birdie and 3 pars.

What an unforgiving course, I lost 7 balls on the front 9. I was not missing the fairways by much, they were just surrounded by the longest vegetation and wild growth.

I am playing Station Creek tomorrow. Hopefully, it will not take the first 9 to play half decently.

Also, I still need to figure out the set up for my R11.

Round went a lot better today. Hit 2 drives over 300 yards. The R11 Driver is a beast. Still learning my yardage with my new irons. The ball explodes off my burners with unbelievable trajectory.

I playing in a my school's (where I teach) golf turnament on Sunday. Should be fun.

I shortened my back swing some, and started hitting farther, especially with my irons. Higher trajectory too. However, my driver has been terribly, terribly erratic, and I got a little hungry and unfocused on the back 9. I normally eat a granola bar or something on the turn, and didn't, and it was the warmest day of the year.

                                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played last weekend with my brother-in-law and 2 of his friends at a little course where my wife is from. It was only 5,600 yds but a par 72. I laughed the entire round at my brother-in-laws 2 friends. They were bad. I offered help but it didn't work. They shot a 107 & 110 respectively. My brother-in-law faired a little better shooting a 86. I shot a 73. Most par 4's were around 300yds, I was driving the ball between 250yd to 280yds, it was driver and wedge for me. The greens made it near imposable to putt. I had 6 or 7 birds on line and going in to only kick right or left at the end. I can deal with fairways that need work but there is no reason for a course to have greens in that shape. I did have a chance at an eagle on a 485yd par 5 that I ended up with birdie on. I'm running basketball camps the next 2 weeks so I'm not sure when I will get out again. Reading all the other guys here talk about leagues they play in makes me wish I could get into one. The only one I know of is at the course the school I teach and coach at uses for a home course. It is all retired men and women. Oh well I will keep playing a round here and there until school starts back.
Relax, it's just a video game!
