Hah! The Wedding Anniversary didn't stop my old man and I from hitting the twilight all-you-can-play deal last summer until 8PM when it was absolutely too dark to continue...although he was in the dog-house for a looooonnnng time after that one (he flat-out forgot it was his anniversary, and I've never been good at remembering that stuff...although even if I had remembered, I'm not sure I would've reminded him...).

Let us know how it goes...looked awesome in the store, but the line to hit the demo balls in the range was way too long, so I didn't get a chance to hit any. You'll be the envy of your 4-some next week, though.

I don't know if teh one we were hitting was calibrated right. It didn't feel right and wasn't getting the distance we had hoped.

There were 3 of us hitting it including a 1 handicap and we weren't impressed. I joked that we should just sprey paint an R5 white and save the money.

I'd be interested to see what other people think of it.

My old man got one and I tried it out and didn't like it. Love the way it looks, but it just felt weird when I hit it....I also was having major problems trying to work the ball with it (that may have been because of how my old man had it weighted though).

Take this with a grain of salt though, I only hit about 15 drives with it.

It does look pretty cool though

OK, picked up the R11 yesterday and it is AMAZING!! You CAN'T mi**** it. I was swinging as hard as I could and the ball just went farther and farther! There was a group of 4-5 guys watching me hit it at the range, I am NOT a big hitter at all, and I was passing the 250 sign every time. I have never hit a club like that before. I am playing this weekend, that will be the real test!

played for the first time in about a month and it was damp and cool, and I shot a 95. Not great, but given the conditions I'll take it.

I came within a foot of a hole in one. And did manage to sink about 30ft putt to save par after a horrible start to the hole. Lost balance on tee shot and hit it every bit of 100 yards on a 430 yard par 4. Hit 3 wood to within 100 yards, pitch shot was terrible(caught fat), but sank putt.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                      Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread

After my second round of the year I have my irons back to about 90%of where they were at end of last year.
After 3 holes I had to put driver away and use 3W.
I then proceded to par the next 4 out of 5 holes.
I can hit a 3W off the turf about 220-230 yet still struggle to keep driver in fairway. Until I get it straightened out I'll just 3W it.

Sounds like me. I cannot hit my driver with consistent accuracy at all. I actually still carry a 1-iron and use it for my tee shots on the Par-4 and 5's. I can hit the 1-iron over 200 yards and keep the ball in fairway most times. I'll gladly sacrifice the 30-40 yards that I might get from my driver and keep the ball in play than hope that my ball stays out of the trees.

Played my first round of the year on Thursday. Shot a 92 at Empire Ranch in Folsom, CA. Not bad considering it's my first round.

This is also my first round after getting in shape. I've been a fat 200 lbs for the past 15 years, but now I'm 163 and firm, with greatly increased strength and flexibility. So I had to work out my distances again (I'm about a club longer now).

Other than a couple of blowups and three-putts, I actually played pretty well. I think I can work my way down to mid 80s by the end of the season.

I think there might be a couple threads like this floating around, but this is the one that came on the search.

Tonight is the opening night of league and it's looking like it might be a rainout

Has anyone ever tried lessons before? I feel like I need them...I don't expect to become a scratch golfer out of it, but I'd just like to get to the point where I can hit the ball solid more times than not.

False alarm. The rain has moved from the area and it's on.

Should be interesting as I haven't even hit a ball yet this year.
