around here, there are two local courses that have a 45 degree rule, in that if its above 45 degrees and the ground isn't saturated(previous rain/snow) they will let you play. They both have someone in the clubhouse throughout the winter as they sell clubs, clothing, etc..

2011 Golfer's Thread
I started one last year for those who play golf(real life not video game) to come and discuss their rounds and share tips and exchange ideas on equipment and such.
Went out this morning and played 18 holes at Quail Chase Golf. Par 72 and I shot an 96. Started horribly, shooting a 10 on the opening hole after topping a drive and an chip shot and then 3 putting the green. Shot 53 on the front and 43 on the back.
Back 9 was great until I tried to reach a par 5 in two and sank my approach into the water. So I'm in drop zone hitting my 4th and caught the ball thin sending it over the green into more trouble.
Oh well, ended the day with 2 birdies which feels good.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
I'm predicting a mid-April start to the golf season here this year. Snow isn't quite gone. Hopefully the driving ranges will open early April.
I've had the itch really bad lately. Grabbed an iron a couple times this week and waggled it in my living room, lol.Comment

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
yeah the courses around here aren't in the best of shape, but it was too nice not to get out today.
Hate when its cart path only though, as I tend to always hit the ball errantly away from the cart path making the seach that much more difficultI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
Just played a beat up track in my area. Shot 79, didn't play bad, but not great. Two doubles on two poor iron shots really sunk my round. Putted well, first round with the new irons and driver so not too disappointed.Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.
You too can be a 5* recruit at FSU.......

VERY VERY jealous that some of you are already playing. Here in the North East golfing before April doesnt usually happen. I hope to be on my course by mid-April.
Has anyone hit the new Razr X irons by Callaway?STEAM PROFILE: STEAM_0:1:39676753Comment

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
I haven't. I bought some new irons last year from Ping. Its the G15 series. Love'em. A buddy of mine has the new Callways that you're referring to, but he hasn't played this year yet so I can bend his ear about them.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I play with a fade, as its more natural swing I guess. I am a lefty so I sit up all shots a little to the right of my intended target and let the ball work its way back.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

If the tee is too low for your driver your body will compensate for the lower trajectory and you naturally hook it to the right if you're a right handed golfer.Comment

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
If you are only hooking on tee shots then your tee could be set too low because I had a buddy who would only hook on tee shots but was always shoving in the tee twice as deep as anyone else because it felt comfortable to him and would be hooking every tee shot like clockwork. I finally convinced him to set the tee at a higher elevation and it was magically corrected.

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
The simplest piece of advice I can give is swing slower and you will get more distance and probably go straighter too because it then allows you to concentrate subconsciously on keeping your elbow straight and wrists locked. I routinely get more distance then most people I play with (it's my short game that really sucks) and if you saw my swing it's almost in slow motion. Your body torque is what drives the ball far and that torque is generated the most when you have a relaxed downswing. If you shift your body the way your supposed to then that torque really comes out at the point of impact with increased clubhead speed.
When you swing like a maniac you use up all your energy before the point of impact and you are alot more prone to sloppy mistakes with shifting your weight and hand position. The 1st rule of golf is that you should swing with the same effort with every club from your driver to a full 9 iron.
I'd say 90% of the guys I play with try to kill the ball thinking the faster they swing the farther it will go when it's the exact opposite. They don't understand why they suck with thier drivers and long irons and are so much better with thier short irons. It's because with short irons people tend to take a more relaxed swing and therefore have better control.Comment

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
over active hands. Your hands are getting in front of your body therefore you are coming over the top of the ball and putting a spin on it. Try slowing your swing down a bit and see what happens. Also, try moving the ball back in your stance.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
