Never had lessons but a friend of mine got them and said it really depends on what you pay for the lessons. He tried one at a local driving range and the guy was horrible so then he tried one that his friend recommended from a golf club around here and he said that guy really helped. But was way to pricy to go get lessons from again.Texas A&M Aggies

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I don't endorse extended lessons because it seems like much ado about nothing to me, but if you pay someone to take a look at your swing in one session and they can notice glaring problems, it can be very beneficial.
It just seems extended lessons can be turned into a way for the pro to make more money over time...Comment

Junky round for the first time out. Was 3-over through 6 and went triple, triple, bogey to end the round for a 46.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I've played 2 rounds of 9 in the past few days and I haven't been as bad as I thought. I don't have individual scores since I was in a foursome and both times we played 2-on-2 best ball (forget the actual name of the game). But both days we played, my partner and I usually used my shots to keep score for our team so I guess I didn't shoot too bad. Can't wait to get out there again soon and see how I play individually.Patriots

Have any of your guys seen this? http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/10/sp...me&ref=general
Its a self correcting golf ball, increases accuracy up to 75%. It is illegal for Golf Pro's to use but I am reall debating on buying a box, I play by myself and being able to hit a driver straight would really make me enjoy the game even more.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
Sorry, but I think this is just silly. Cheating is cheating.
Why don't you just skip the golf and just write down a score of 68 on your card?
You'd save a lot of time and money.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I'm shooting even lately. Not upset because it's lowering the hcp - but it's been almost 3 weeks since I've had a birdie.
I've joined my old men's league that uses a quota system to help me more about scoring lower - and making it count because whoever goes over (good) their quota by the largest margin, keeps all the cashComment

So what if the ball "fixes" some of your issues. In the end when you look at your score you'll still know it wasn't all "you".

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
Meh, whatever makes you enjoy the game more. As long as you aren't playing competitively (especially against me in a $5 Nassau), enjoy the super-balls.
Personally, I have been in a total funk for the last few months...I just cannot get solid contact on the ball right now, and I'm hitting my irons thin and off-center every time. Corrections inevitably lead to fat chunks. My timing is just off right now, and it's really hard to get it back. Although maybe now that I have no teams left in any sport in the playoffs, I will have more time to get out there...Comment

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
Going to force myself to go to the range tomorrow with temps in the 40's. I really need it before Monday league. Went out there this past Monday without hitting a ball all year prior to the first tee and junked out a 46. par-bogey-bogey-bogey-par-par-triple-triple-bogey.Comment

For me putting the time in to practice and work out issues is part of the fun.
No way I could be happy with a score that wasn't based on my ability.Joshua:

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
We played in the touney yesterday to support Hospice.
Our team finished mid of the pack with a 4 over 76.
It was great fun and for a good cause.
The weather cooperated and it was some serious stress relief.Joshua:

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
Well I played in a tournament this weekend. The first day I just could not do anything right. I started off a little nervous and tripled the first hole. Then a couple holes later I hit to a par three that is totally over water. I had no problem with the water but I pushed the ball right and it hit the cart path and took a giant bounce and landed 6 inches out of bounds. 4 holes later I hit two tee shots out of bounds on the same hole. I ended up shooting 89. The weird thing is that I NEVER hit it out of bounds. I hit plenty of bad shots, but I never hit it OB.
The second day I got back to playing a little better and shot 80, and I bogeyed the last 3 holes as I got a little unlucky and had to punch back into the fairway on 2 of the last 3. It's always fun for me to play in tournaments because I love to compete and I didn't grow up playing in junior golf tournaments. My handicap is a 9.6, so I played pretty close to it on the 2nd day, but man that first day was brutal. I wanted to walk off the course after hitting that cart path and going out of bounds. The triple on the 1st hole was rough, but I shook that off and knew I could still shoot a decent score, but then the luck just wasn't with me the rest of day. That's golf I guess and that's what makes you keep coming back.PSN: Koolie_G

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
Played our company best ball tourney yesterday and I played pretty steady. Have to admit though that I simply can't drink and golf anymore. At around the 14th hole I started losing it off the tee. Irons were still ok though.
Coolest moment was and approach to a green that was guarded by water in front, left and right. Over the green was 'ok' but not a great spot. Flag was center/front.
We were about 110-115 from flag and my 3 teammates went first. 1st on flubbed his and it went about 15 yards. The next 2 went in water.
So now I'm nervous as crap but I always hit my mid to low irons pretty well.
I hit it and it was dead on but looked like maybe I took a tad to low of a club. However it made it by about 3 yards and trickled to with 6 feet of cup.
Made me feel good.
Everyone contributed most of the day and we were 3 under through 6.
We fell into a funk though but recovered a bit to finish 2 over.
Great fun day....Joshua:

Re: 2011 Golfer's Thread
I got out and played a couple of rounds this week. Played Saturday for my birthday. My wife came along to caddy for me. Played a little course that is a home course to a rival high school of the school I coach at. I wanted to get a good idea of the course and make some notes for the next season. I have not played at all since our golf season ended the first week in May. I didn't know what to expect. I ended up with a a 6 over 76. I missed 5 bride putts and had a double. The double I had was on a hole were the green was more like a putt-putt green then anything. The pin placement for this hole was in the middle of a ridge. Who would place a pin in the middle of a ridge? I had a nice 4 putt. Overall I was happy and got some great notes for the next season.
Today I played on our home course. The course is not the greatest but I get to play for free. The owner does not want me to change our schools home course since a lot of my players play there a few time a week during the summer. I shot a 1 over 73. I was 3 under on my front 9 but had a bad 3 hole stretch on the back 9. I hope to get back out a few more times over the next 2 weeks before I start a basketball camp.Relax, it's just a video game!Comment
