    The OS Golfer's Thread!

After much thought this past week I bought these yesterday from Golf Galaxy for $249 after a. Amazon price match to my surprise. Nike VRS_X irons

Out of all the irons I hit TM Rocketbllz, Ping G20's, Cobra Amp, Mizuno's these were ridiculously forgiving. Again I was in a simulator so I do consider that but the feel was incredible.

For the first time in 12 years I won't be playing Pings. My plan was to snag the Ping G20's for $549 but after hitting the Nike's in the simulator and couple that with the $300 savings I had to bite. My only concern is how cheaply priced I got them for and the quality??? I tried searching online but I couldn't find anything in regards to durability/quality.

I'm holding off on taking the plastic off the heads yet nor hit em out at the range until I do a little more research. Still very happy about the savings!!!

Nice sticks Flight, I'm sure the quality will be just fine.

I picked up a set of Mizuno JPX 800's the summer before last, that was my first new set of irons in 10+ years. Great feeling!

So ready for it to start warming up, I hurt my elbow playing last summer and haven't touched the clubs since early September.

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I've found a few unique ways to practice my swing, being that there's a foot of snow in the ground where I live. First of all, I spend at least 30 minutes each day putting into a hole that I bought for $7 on Amazon.

        Okay:
I practice iron shots by placing a tee in a path I made in the snow, wide enough for me to take a full stance. The goal is to send the tee flying without breaking it in the direction you are aiming.

I practice wedges and bunker shots with either a tennis ball or just a clump of snow, or both. By placing snow underneath the ball, I can go through the motions, even taking a full swing, on a hard surface, which I do on my driveway. I also use this for practice out of fairway bunkers.

I can't really practice with my driver, woods, or hybrids until the amount of snow dwindles down a bit. If you guys are in a cold climate right now, and don't have a CC right down the street with an indoor simulator (which I also have the luxury of, being a mile away from 54 holes and 2 CCs), check out some of these tips for yourself. They really improve your swing.

So I think I am gonna buy one of these game golf things. (www.gamegolf.com) Seems like a pretty cool piece of technology and not very intrusive. I'm usually not an early adopter but I've been following this product very closely and I really think its neat. If I do pull the trigger I will be sure to let you guys know what I think.

The PGA pro did my fitting and he was great. Got 5 iron - 48 degree gap wedge(I use a hybrid 4 iron). Also told I needed midsize grips. Can't wait to play these. Guy also offered me a free 60 minute lesson and I will be setting that up after the clubs come in!
I bought some AP2s last summer and the guy that fitted me also recommended me midsize grips... OMG they made a huge difference in my consistency. I like to think im a pretty good ball striker but this definitely helped my game

maybe also the fact that I had DCI981 before that LOL

Yeah, I am looking forward to the new grips. The only thing I am a little pissed about is I just bought some awesome GP grips and while they are standard I know I can get extra wraps on them to make them midsize, but not sure if I will use them. I just thought they were cool, because they were a discontinued color.

I love my multi compound grips, best grips I've used and the ONLY grips I'll use.

I played around with grips last year. Had the multi-compounds on my Divers/woods/hybrids, the Niion on my irons, and tour velvet on my wedges. Was gonna go all multi-compound this year. Still might I just have to come to terms with the limited color options for standard midsize. I know it doesn't matter but I'm fickle about my grips that way.

Man, grips may be the one thing really holding me back. I have nice clubs, but the grips are completely shot. I almost have to wear two gloves when I play. I've never gotten around to getting my clubs re-gripped. Multi compounds seem like a good fit for me because they are visually appealing and that's what I'm all about when I play.

Lamkin grips or nothing. I refuse to use anything else.

That is a pretty interesting idea. I think I would really like that, not so much for competing against other people, but really for tracking my stats. You could really get a lot of good information on your game and what your tendencies are from this type of technology. It's not gonna tell you how long your putts are, but it will tell you about everything else as far as distance wise it seems. I would definitely try this if the little belt clip is not too intrusive. I would love coming home after a round and checking the iPad and being able to look at what I did on the course and where I might start saving strokes. I'm a visual guy and I think that would really help me see things in a different perspective.

Lol! The only thing i would worry about is the difference in weight distribution when adding wrap layers. I only say that because my dad got mid sized grips on his driver and he had them take it off because he couldnt hit it as well as mine. (both were R1s) it was quite amusing.

That being said, I'm not sure there's any difference... but im definitely more excited for golf now that... well now that football is over.

I plan to test it on a hybrid probably my 2 iron (play that over a 5-wood) and see how it feels. Can't do anything in this awful weather though.

So wasn't sure if I should make this a new topic, but I struggle mightly when going to use a fairway wood. I don't even pull them out if I'm playing a round and will only use my hybrid. I will swing and miss, I will top, I'll duff; I just can't hit the darn thing. Any one else struggle with that or have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
