So I've got a question for you guys regarding driver stance/setup. I'm still struggling with inconsistency in trying to make solid contact and keep it straight with the driver. However, I made a small change towards the end of my range session this morning: I stood a bit more upright instead of doing the same bend with my upper body that I do with my irons. I instantaneously got much better, more consistent results. I was hitting the ball much more solidly with tons better contact.

My question: is this correct form? Am I supposed to be standing kind of more upright with the driver?

I don't consider myself a very good golfer by any means, but i've made a similar change in standing more upright. It's helped a lot. A combination of doing that and really focusing on swinging inside out at the ball have made me much more consistent. I think the issue with leaning over too far is that it's such a long swing compared to the irons, I had a tendency to lose my balance and start "falling" toward the ball during the swing. This would result in hits off the toe, or just an altogether mis-hit that would skip maybe 20 yards down the fairway.

And hey, even if it's not right, it's working for you! When I find something that works, I don't care if it's right .

Playing my third round of the year this afternoon. I'm playing a much tougher course than what I shot my 81 on, so it'll be interesting to see how I do as I won't have as much leeway on poor tee shots.

Then I get to play a round in Maryland and Charlotte next week thanks to my future in-laws as part of my birthday present.

        It's gonna be a good 2 weeks.

Going out Thursday to play the 1757 Golf Club (http://www.1757golfclub.com/index.php). Its a short challenging course. Was originally going to be a private county club, but lost funding, its now public! Only downside is how far it is from my house, but couldn't pass up a chance to play it.

I played #100 on Golf Digest's top 100 public golf course at the Donald Ross French Lick course. It was pretty cool, shot an 85 on the par 70.

Remember how I said I wouldn't be buying any new clubs for a while? Well, I lied. I'm too weak. Bah.

Went and tested out a few drivers at a local golf store using some basic readouts (ball speed, carry distance, spin rate). Ended up walking out with the Nike Covert. Played a round and had a couple of range sessions already. I have never hit such straight drives in my life. I thought that I was starting to see my drives straighten out with my beginner set driver, but I didn't know what straight was until I started hitting this Covert lol. And with the recent price drop to $199, I'm feeling pretty happy about this purchase!

Not sure yet. My fiancee's parents live in White Hall, so somewhere up there. They have friends that are members at some country club so I think they're going to get me a round there.

As for my round today, I only got 15 holes in as I got stuck behind a high school match play tournament and they were taking forever, so I decided to go home. I was on pace for a 88-92 round, which is about my norm, but I was having a lot of trouble with distance control. There were a few shots that I thought were right on line but ended up 10-15 yards long or short. It was pretty frustrating, but my putting saved my round from really getting out of hand.

Did you pick up the regular version or the tour version? Just curious. I have the tour version myself, love the thing to death. Nike really hit a home run with their drivers this year.

Regular version. It's pretty awesome. Tested a 9.5 and 10.5 loft on it, and found that 9.5 is actually giving me the best results so far.

Starting to feel the ill effects of making swing changes. Have been playing absolutely miserable lately to the point where I really don't know where a shot is going to go.

Going to get with my swing coach tonight and see if we can iron some things out.

It's amazing how important feel is in the golf swing. You can have the best mechanics in the world but if you can't feel something that is repeatable in your swing, it's almost like you've never swung a golf club before.

Needless to say, I'm feeling extremely frustrated right now.

                          Good to hear.

I'm getting new shafts put in my burner 3 hybrid, nike vrs driver, and titleist 906 f4 3 wood Friday after work. I cannot wait to get rid of the stock shafts. I had a buddy give me a free tipped project x 6.0 shaft for my driver, but I'm going to get it tested first before settling in on it.

Shot a +15 50 on 9 holes yesterday, and it would've been lower if I could've hit a decent tee shot. Still having some problems with my hybrids and driver, but I'm pretty sure that's the lowest I've ever shot on that group of 9 holes.

.......I'm so weak. Went and got fitted today. That was a great/bad decision.

Great decision because everything I tried made a huge, huge difference. Irons were carrying a good 25-30 yards further with anything I tried over my beginner set. The fitter also made an adjustment to the lie as well. Nothing too crazy.

Bad decision because I'm pretty much replacing the entire set. Good lord...so expensive. My OCD kicked in and in the interest of not having mixed up brands, ended up getting all Nike (mostly). Here's what I'm ending up with:

Nike Covert Driver (purchased a few days ago but the fitter helped me with customizing the settings even further)
                              Nike Covert 5 Wood
                              Nike Covert Irons (5-AW)
                              Nike VR Forged Wedges (52, 56, 60)

Now the only thing that I haven't made a decision yet is the hybrid. I actually was hitting the Ping G25 3H very well, but the Nike Covert 4H was giving me problems. They didn't have the Covert in a 3H, so they're going to see if they can get one in for me to test out again. And the Covert Irons...wow. Tried out 4 or 5 different irons, and I was absolutely killing with the Coverts. Hitting right smack in the center of the club face every single time. I didn't realize it would make such a huge difference. Apparently my beginner set was much heavier, and was causing inconsistency. Can't wait until these Coverts come in.

All in all, I'm really glad I went to get fitted. Glad you guys gave me the feedback that it would be a good idea. I was actually feeling really good, because the fitter kept telling people that walked by, "come here, look at this swing. This guy has only been playing for 3 months!" Made me feel really good about all the work and practice that I've been putting in.

^ out of curiosity, what did that run you? Ballpark is cool if you don't want to say. Just curious because I've been in need of having my irons fitted, but have been putting it off for a while now.
