Lost my ****ing PW 2 days ago. Brand new Titleist MB 710s I got. **** me. I'm so pissed. I never do stuff like that.

Of course, no one turned it in either.

Played a few holes today. The CC let people play 1/3 of the course for 1/3 of the price with the excessive heat.
I strayed from the things I had worked on earlier this week, but still managed decent play. Went to the range after and got back into my groove. Playing 18 holes Saturday.

I picked up a set of Rocketballz steel regular a couple weeks ago and they are already in the basement and my Burners are back in the bag. Holy cow I could not groove those things. In the process I lost my 3 wood and hybrid swings too. My handicap would have gone up two full strokes if I was keeping it officially this summer.

The take home message to me is you can have all the info you want off a launch monitor, and I hit a ton of balls with several different sets and the rbz were clearly the best fit for me, at least among stock stuff (not doing custom yet). My swing in the cage simply does not translate to the outdoors, when a real flag is waving in the distance and real strangers are grouped up with me.

I plan to start next season fresh with the new irons and see how that goes. For the rest of this year I'm not messing with my load out again.

Excited to get out tomorrow, but with a 10:10 tee time, it will be during the hottest part of the day, and this heat wave will be here for at least 24 more hours.

            Play a round today at a par 72 course. Shot a +10 82.

I was hovering around in the high 70's during the back nine but had a unforced double bogey on 13 (only double of the day) to go from +7 to +9. Had one birdie on hole 16, but then bogey'd the 18th to shoot my +10. Had 1 birdie, 4 pars, 3 bogeys, and one double bogey on the back nine. What really hurt me today was my inability to get GIR's. Only hit 28% of the greens in regulation but hit 67% of the fairways. GIR's will be something I have to work on. Out of all the rounds I've played, I only hit 46% of the greens. I hit about 71% of the fairways when I play.

I did hit a monster 304 yard drive on hole 5. Granted it was down wind but I was so pumped when I saw I hit the ball that far. My normal distance is anywhere from 260-270 yards total. All in all a very good day.

              Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Holy crap. Went out and played my short 9 hole course today. Got my first birdy ever on the first hole, a 270 yard par 4. It was great, and I thought it'd go all downhill from there.

NOPE. Two holes later, short par 3. HOLE IN ONE. WTF. More importantly, I was playing with a friend. Need witnesses for that!!

The rest of round didn't go too great, but meh. Hole in one! Now I gotta figure out what to do with the ball. Should probably frame it or something.

                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played a par 72 course, hit the ball pretty well, but my short game cost me 15-20 shots. I mean it was horrendous. Due to that I shot a 102, but I easily could've broken 90. I did have a couple of pars. I was also at a disadvantage on par 5's because I still don't have my driver. I hit it great on the range, but strayed from those things at times on the course. I still feel pretty good about my game though.

                  Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Capped off a wonderful golf filled day by playing my local 18 hole course as well. Shot a 106! Little disappointed because I had a very good shot at breaking 100, but fell apart on two of the last three holes. The driver fixes helped a lot. Went from 30% fairways to 48%, and didn't lose anywhere near as many balls as the first two times. Only 3 penalty strokes compared to 8 and 14 from the first two. Overall, happy with the progress. I can see definite improvement each time I go out to the course. Feels great.

                    Congrats on the ace, thai!

You guys sound like you are playing so well. I am itching to get back on a course for at least the front 9 but its just too brutal in the summer here for more than an early small bucket at my range. Looking forward to the fall.

You know what my biggest hangup is out on the course? Proper iron and wedge shots because I don't like to make divots lol. So I strike the ball and it drives or runs more than it flies.

                        Two reasons.

                        1. Personality quirk of not liking to **** up such nice grass...can't help it. Lol

                        2. Probably more prevalent though is a mental block that taking a divot robs power from the shot. Intellectually, I know if you strike correctly that isn't true.

1: They get good $ to fix their grass lol.

For #2: Yeah if anything taking a divot is showing (or is a good indication) you are compressing the ball correctly = best distance.

On a personal note. I shot a 91. Not unhappy but not happy either.
In 2 weeks I'll be able to golf about 3 times in a week. Looking forward to it.

Sky, you still using the Stack and Tilt method?

I just got out to the range for the first time this year. I wasn't able to get out at all last year due to various reasons, but i'm looking forward to that changing in the coming weeks. It took a few swings to get back into feeling comfortable with the Stack and Tilt swing, but I started sending out a few nice, straight drives. That felt good. The irons were hit and miss. I kept pushing everything right, which is probably just an issue with ball positioning, as I was getting some decent hits.

In all, for the first time at the range in lord knows how long, i'm pretty happy. Playing the first 9 holes of the year this Friday, so we'll see where the short games at as well.

Have decided I'm moving to Florida to hopefully pursue a career in golf.

As of right now it's still a dream and figure I give it a shot while I'm still young and while I have no obligations such as family/wife etc. Plan on leaving Chicago around September, settling in and finding a home course with a pro I can connect with.

The goal is by the end of next year to try and play on one of the PGA mini tours but I'll be playing it by year depending on how I fare in amateur events and what kind of sponsors I can collect. I feel like if I can dedicate enough time, I have the natural ability to actually do this thing.

Going out to play the PB Dye Golf Course (http://www.pbdyegolf.com/index.php) Saturday. It will be my first round since I sprained my knee on July 2nd. I thought my game was rounding into form, so this will be a double challenge, first round in weeks, and on a tough course. Also put a Super Stroke Grip on my midnight so this will be my first round with that as well. Looking forward to it regardless.
