Yesterday, I stood on the 18th hole at TPC River Highlands watching the Final Round of the Travelers Championship. The man coming in with the lead, Ken Duke, was a man who I had been a standard bearer with on Saturday. 10 minutes later, Chris Stroud, who I had on Friday, made an unbelievable chip in from off the green. So there was a playoff. After both had pars on the first playoff hole, Duke hit his approach within 3 feet on the second playoff hole. Duke prevailed, getting his first win on any pro tour at age 44. I watched it all live and already had signed balls from each of them since I was a standard bearer.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I went out on Saturday and shot 92 after shooting 88 the previous week (par 71 course). I lipped out at least 4 putts so the round could have been better.
I got a Taylormade Superfast 2.0 Driver at the beginning of year, and I love it. I hit it at least 15 yards longer than my old driver (Taylormade 580XD) now that I figured out how to hit it. Now I just need to figure out how to putt a little bit better, because I average around 36 putts a round.Comment

In other news, would have been nice to be a fly on Bubba's bag while he let his caddie have it - lol. Poor last couple holes though - ha.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I actually lost a little respect for Bubba. Behind Tiger, Dustin Johnson and Hunter Mahan, Bubba was my 4th favorite golfer. The Caddy didn't hit that shot over the green, I know that happens all the time, and the mic just happened to be on him, but he came off to me as whiney child after that shot from the drop zone. TGC said they were surprised he didn't play his ball from the water given his club head speed.Moderator

I know Elk doesn't have the best reputation either - but things can be brought up after the round or before. I was pretty happy that Bubba won the Masters' though - and will still root for him, but the other stuff is just poor to see.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I understand where you guys are coming from, but you have to let up a little. The guy has ADHD, so it's amazing that he's even able to play pro golf. One slight movement will make him distracted, and like any golfer, he will yell at the person if it keeps happening. I'm not a big Bubba fan, but I'm just saying to give him a break.Red Sox|Patriots|Celtics|UConnComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Wouldn't call Steve Elkington "one of the game's greats" but he is definitely was one of the good guys on tour and a solid player.
Also, don't blame Bubba whatsoever. If something frustrates you, and someone has repeatedly done it, then be a man and say something. Too many guys out here trying to be buddies anymore.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played the same 9 hole course again this morning. Halfway through, started POURING rain. But I couldn't stop, because I was doing better than I ever had before. Ended up shooting a 43, which was a HUGE improvement so far over the 59/64 that I shot when I first started playing earlier this month. I've got more lessons coming up which can hopefully help improve the swing, but so far still can't get enough of this!Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I've never played any golf in my life other than hitting a few balls when I was like 10 and then the occasional game of mini-golf with my girlfriend through the years. With that said, I would like to get into the game and start playing for real. Problem is, I have nobody I know that plays golf and I have no idea where to begin. Any suggestions? Should I just buy some clubs off craigslist and head to a course? I'm sure I would be horrible starting off, but I am willing to put the time in to learn and get better.Comment

Tell them your situation, they'll take you to their little simulated driving range and watch your swing. They'll help find what type of club heads/shaft/length/etc. work best for your swing. Even if you don't end up purchasing (which, they normally have some good deals going on) you can learn what type of clubs to do.
Also, put in time at the driving range getting familiar with all of the clubs in your arsenal so you can learn what you need to work on, what clubs go what distance and so on. I haven't done 9 or 18 in at least 5 years (military kept me busy then my surgery took me down) but I've been to the driving ranges around me quite a bit, just to keep all the rust off that I can.badComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
There were a few small swing changes I made recently, that I'm still battling. But i had been doing them for years and learned to play with it. Not good.
Definitely practice good habits early, so you don't run into problems later.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Agreed, and if you do end up spending some $$ on a customized set - make sure it is customized to your swing style. Welcome to the game of golf, you'll enjoy the next 30 years loving and hating it!Comment
