    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

So I absolutely suck now. The last two times I've been to the driving range, I've hit a total of 2 balls that went straight and in the air. All my other hits are either to far to the side, to to the point where they go about 45 degrees to the right before slicing, or not even in the air. I've been playing baseball for so long that I've modeled my swing after that, and that's completely screwed me over. I'm picking my left foot up on the backstroke and I'm dipping my right half on the swing. I need to completely redo my swing from the ground up. Anyone know of some good videos or something that could help me?

Sorry to hear that man, it comes and goes. You mention baseball background - embrace it, don't steer away from it. Jeff Ritter is a great coach and his videos are exceptional. Remember everything you do starts at set up. Feel free to post your swing here and we can take a look:

Thanks, that helped out a lot.

Does anyone know what the name is for that thing that almost looks like a hangman that has a ball that spins around on it? I saw it somewhere online and it looks like a cheap way to practice in the backyard without getting a net or anything.

I've seen then at Walmart. I doubt those are of high quality but it's a place to start looking for names

So I've got this pretty good thing going. I will collect lost balls on the golf course, and the way my house is set up there are these woods behind them, that I fire balls into from an "elevated tee box" type position next to my house. I would say there are about 75-100 balls back there. Last week one of the kids in my neighborhood came by with a bucket full of the balls he had found in the woods. He wanted to know if I wanted to buy them back. So I told him sure. 0.25 for the first 50 and .10 for the rest after that. He seemed happy enough and WTH, I have no problem keeping money in the community lol.

That's awesome. Now just start charging folks to come over and drive golf balls. You'll have yourself a good driving range.

Or just keep it a private driving range.

              Either way that's awesome.

Speaking of driving ranges. I moved into my new house in CT. Just waiting on my stuff now but I have a driving range really close. It is about a block away from my house. It's real cheap. Elevated tee box and the grass wasn't mowed so I had no roll on my drives. It is unmanned and $5 a bucket. Put your money in the machine, get a token, get some balls, hit. I also worked out my swing a little more. I kept my led arm straight in my backswing an that helped. I crushed one that traveled about 240 in the air and I only could imagine the roll I would of got with my 9.5 driver.

                  Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Well 2nd tourney of the year and really 2nd competitive tournament in 6 years, and finished in the top half the field. Definitely have exceeded my expectations to this point, as I am still going through major swing changes.

4 bad holes over the 2 days cost me though. Took a triple on the first hole of day one, then a triple on the second hole of day 2 in a down pour and two doubles in between the two rounds. Fortunately, I also had 6 birdies for the two days, so I'm seeing my work on the putting green starting to pay dividends.

For the next tourney in two weeks, my personal goal is to shoot a two day total under 150. Playing on a course that has held regional US Open qualifiers, so it is going to be a challenge. Look forward to it.

Totally forgot that I put a pre-order in on the black R1 as a joke, it arrived today. It is going back tomorrow. But damn that club is sexy. I actually prefer the white on my drivers now.

Your swing looks a bit like mine used to at address. You need to bend at the knees just a bit more.

Just got out and played the same short 9 for the third time, and did so much better! Shot a 59 the first time, 64 the second. This time managed a 49 and even got a par! Felt absolutely amazing to have some semblance of success. My irons were going a lot straighter and was much more consistent, and the driver was going a good distance, even though it sliced a bit. Putting still needs lots of work but still, very happy with the progress so far!

JJ, my man - have you not taken lessons yet? Gotta do it man.

I can see you're still reverse pivoting. The reason you're doing that is because you're trying to keep your head still. Setting up at address is one thing, but you are not trying to return to your address position at impact - which is what those practice swings seem to suggest.

First things first - need a reverse K in that set up:

                            <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tZuvykYxmvs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                            Second - backswing; try this:

                            <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_JES-8I-VAk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I do a little extra and do what is called an extension by feeling like my RIGHT arm is straightening as I get to the top of the swing. You will feel an enormous stretch that will allow you to get right back to the ball.

Last step, and it's critical - BUT ONLY LISTEN TO THE IDEA OF THE HEAD ROTATING - not the other stuff as his theories are a bit whack, and not in line with what I'm showing you.

                            <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4WJFlVRkXmI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Remember to smack the inside back of the ball at all times. You're hitting those shanks and toppers because of try to smack the direct back of the ball. All good players hit the ball from the inside; some of them hit it and then rotate - some of them hit it and let their arms fly off their bodies; just depends.

Play around with that - but definitely start working on that backswing idea and fixing that reverse pivot.

The TaylorMade RocketBallz Max 8-Piece Iron set. I've seen good reviews on them, thought I'd pass on this deal in case anyone randomly happens to be looking. $399-429 is the deal price.

Went and played 18 today for the first time ever and I shot 150 . I had some really good shots, including a par 4 second hit that was inches from an eagle, but I just had too many mistakes and way too many 2 foot hits. I swear I had at least 20 that went absolutely no where, not even including the drives that only went 100.
