Had my best round ever today, shooting an 88. Didnt shoot anything over a 6, and all parts of my game felt like they were working together for once. The few times I was late to the green, my putting was clutch, as I hit a few putts from 10-20 feet to save par or bogey. Felt really, really good.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Got my putter back yesterday. Lots of long one putts. With the longest being about 22 feet with about 8 inches of L-R break. I don't know what it is but when my putter and I are going good I feel like I can sink every putt regardless of distance.
My brother who has only golfed a handful of times also made his first ever birdie on the longest hole on the course.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Been getting my act together on the course. Struggled for a while finding the short grass. But got my hybrid working again. My driver and 3 wood haven't been treating me well, and I haven't had time to go to the range to straighten them out. I hate eliminating clubs from my bag. But I have to at this point. Shot a 77 my last round out this past Monday. Got out of my messes just as easily as I got into them.
Side note. Looking to buy a VR X3X 60 degree wedge and a Covert 2.0 2 Hybrid. Anyone play either or have any thoughts on them?St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Ball striking was great but distance control was lacking.
Well we get to 18 (par 5) and I'm sitting at 82.
Driver down the middle in good shape.
6 Iron to get position. Hit a tad fat but still got decent distance.
Set up for the 3rd shot from 134 out.
I freaking shank it. I haven't shanked in forever and I flat out shank it.
I have no shot but to punch out back to fairway for my 4th.
5th shot goes to back of green..flag in front.
a 3 putt later and I finish with a 90 score.
After a few shots you get the feel for the 3/4 distance and the "half" distance
Also, whenever I shank it...it's off the hosel (sp?) because I stand too close to the ball. I always always tell myself, "man i feel like im just a bit too close...oh well..." and proceed to shank it rather than stepping off and resetting.
___
Recently I just realized that I align my shoulders as if i have an open stance. Basically I had the ball positioned too far forward and tried to fix the feel of it being in the center of my stance.
Ive been working on actually placing the ball in the center of my stance and giving my club shaft a bit of a forward lean at address. Taking the misses to the right almost completely out of play (unless my tempo gets off slightly).
The issue with my driver was that ^ and also my lower body doesn't get thru the ball which causes my swing plane to be out to 1 o clock. I try to tell myself to swing from my right hip rather than to my left hip. When I actually focus I tend to hit the ball well. lol
Need to get these straightened out before the 1st. 3-Day city tournament... Idk if I've said, but my goal is to shoot better than 3 rounds of 80.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Luckily my driver has been the most consistant.
My iron distance is me not taking the same swing each time more than likely. Either I get to quick or after a few beers I am more relaxed and smooth lol
I'm counting the shank as an outlier as I haven't done that in forever.
I also play ball in center and wedges a tad back. 5i and 4i about a ball forward of center
Hopefully getting out Thursday or Friday.
Hitting range Wednesday to work on tempo and posture a bit.
I also have a tendance to get lazy with my takeaway and cut it off short.Joshua:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Playing today! Been hitting the ball pretty well, but havent really been focusing enough.
Today's goal is to focus on each shot.
Also, putting has been good...but ever since the beginning of July, I cant get the ball to the hole. So many perfect lines, 1 foot short
I'm hoping that this isnt an issue in the City tournament next weekend.
Maybe i just need to be closer to the hole lolI used to put important things hereComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
So I played with a couple of guys that were way better than me. I wasnt comfortable for the first three holes. Hit 5 perfect shots in a row on #4 & 5
After that, i felt i played much better than my score shows. Although I did lose quite a few golf balls today
I think I'm going to slightly shut the face on my driver, I've been losing that right when I'm aiming for a draw. And when i try to hit a fade, it ends up a slice.
The handful of shots that I feel like I actually focused on, I hit rather well. More better than poor at least.
I need to keep trying to do that, and then learn how to putt lolI used to put important things hereComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played yesterday in a scramble. We shot -12. Things were good. Had to use someone else's driver the whole round as my driver head snapped on a practice swing. So it looks like I will be needed a new driver.Comment

The OS Golfer's Thread!
Well, I finally got a driver today. Thanks to my uncle, I now am a proud owner of a Taylormade r7 driver which replaces the empty slot in my bag, thanks to my dad's drunk buddy.
Well, after a few practice tees on the range, me and the grandpa went out to shoot 18. Can't remember if the total score (94) is a personal best but my back nine (43) was a record for myself and that made my day enough.
My putting was off but ball striking was good (see:decent) all day and I kept the ball in play - which is pleasant especially with a new driver (which I may add some weights too near the heel).
(EDIT: another thing that made my day great - my grandpa has won his flight a tournament at his local course and I'd say is a good golfer for a man with two replaced knees (shoots an average of 78). After the round, he called my chopping "professional like" and he said he meant that by all means. I was putting all my chips from about 100 yards in near the cup all day - including a par saving chip from a bunch of trees/straw and a bunker chip that hit pin from about 45 yards out. OK - enough bragging. Back to work.)
My grandpa is a great buddy of the owner of the local Nevada Bobs so we are going there tomorrow to get me a new iron set and putter -which will finally complete my first set of golf clubs that I put together. And then I'll hit the local course for 18.Last edited by ILiveForThis; 07-28-2014, 08:08 PM.Brewers | Golden Eagles | Packers | Bucks | Badgers | Fulham FC

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played a practice at Forest Akers West. Michigan State's home course. The East course is much more open, an generally much easier. But west is rather long from the tips (around 7000 yards). Well... this is how it went. (Also I was told that the tournament will be played from greens (their blues lol) and not black. Hope so!
Oh...and my Tee shot was all over the place....that was a bummer. But the fairways are pretty narrow on a few holes and the rough wasnt too bad.
After that round I'm much more confident I can shoot my goal of 240I used to put important things hereComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Went out today after purchasing my iron set (which finally completes my first ever bag) and shot a 44 on my local course which equals my best round of +8 but is my best round at this course. I birdied the first after about 10-15 mins of putting practice thanks to the slow couple ahead of me. Then it was bogey, par from there. I played the next three holes in very bad form but finished par, bogey, par to end it. Should've birdied the 9th but missed the putt as I pushed and it never broke back. Absolutely crushed my tee shot though - only had about 65 yards left for my approach.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Yea, my tee shots were awful all day, the best one I hit was the hole i birdied. about 320 just off of the fairway. hit a SW to about 10-12 feet and drained it.
Generally i would be hitting anything from wedge to 7 iron. But again, the tee ball lead to a few punch outs or just forced me to shape a shot slightly more precise than I could hit. A couple of those 1 putts were from 75+ yards out lol
Also, I agree. It should keep the approach club stats. Theres a tab in the stats page that has clubs....but it doesnt show anything.Makes me think its for the premium version
P.S. Should be getting my tee time assignment either today or tomorrow. Super excited!!I used to put important things hereComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Well - it wasn't the best round but it was an important round because this is the 5th straight round I've shot 45 or under - which for me is huge improvement. I was a double bogey each hole, 120+ on 18 type golfer until I devoted time to the range and ball striking. They still need work but man, it is so sweet to see the improvement.
Anyway - here's the card: driver is still a work in progress but i play those final three holes so well, and for some reason, I can always stripe a driver into the 9th fairway.
