Got out yesterday with my Dayton, Ohio group of about 25 guys and man can some of these older cats put it down. Had 72, 70, and 66 year old in our foursome and these guys were tattooing the flagstick. I threw some darts myself but DAMN these old cats can play lol.

Shot a 41 on the front but as usual I fell off on the back with a 50 finishing with a 91 from the tips. To be honest it was just to windy to play from the back tees.

Had plans on going to Memorial to see Tiger but with the way he played I backed out.

My short game I gotta say is on point, probably my best since I started playing 16 yrs ago. Give me a wedge and its $$$ longer irons 4/5/6 and I'm a mess. Hybrids may be in the near future for me.

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Went back to the range today and I think I fixed my slice. I figured out I was gripping the club with my right hand on the side rather than over the top, causing the club to hit the ball at an angle. I was able to consistently hit the ball straight after fixing that.

Now my biggest problem is distance. I averaged only 180 this time around with my driver, and the same with a hybrid. Any good tips for increasing distance?

Try widening your stance so it's wider than shoulder width. I do this when I want to gain my club head speed (power). Also making a bigger swing arc will increase power as well. So on your take away, feel like your swinging as far away from your body as your arms will let you.

And lastly, on my downswing I try to aggressively turn my hips and move my weight over to my front foot as fast as I can.

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Well after a week or so of not hitting anything I went back to the range yesterday and ended up VERY frustrated.
Whereas at the beginning of the year I was money with irons (my golf trip was the most fun I've so far) and even 4I was money... yesterday I realized I forgot how to hit a golf ball.

I consistently was hitting every iron and inch behind the ball.

So today I went back out after re-grouping and after about 1/2 a bucket I was ready to put a for sale sign on my bag.

How the F do you go brain melt in just a few weeks and loose all feel etc.. of what you are doing...?

SO after playing the best golf ever at beginning of year I was now at the worse golf in years. Talk about depressing.
I'm sure most of you are the same as far as growing up and being competitive and wanting to "master" what you are doing so this was , to say the least, a crush to me.

So fast forward to early afternoon. I decided to get some quick video as I know from past experience I may think I'm doing one thing but am really doing another. I also have V1 swing analyzer on phone which is pretty nice.

Anyways I get some vids and throw into V1....

            Holy mother of God......
I could not believe my swing. I'm no pro but I know what the swing is generally supposed to be like.
First off how the heck do you get out of sorts so quick.. Guess that's why they say you need to keep playing/swinging as much as you can to keep the feel/swings going.

I looked like I was chopping wood ... I was almost coming straight down and then I could see where I was trying to correct this 1/2 way down but didn't have enough time to.

So after getting some key points, I headed back to range.
1000x's better. Still have some little work to do but at least my clubs didn't make it to Ebay.

Playing at 1:20 tomorrow with a friend and then our company event Tuesday. Hope all goes well..

So even if it's just a video session in yard you can bet your butt I'll be swinging every couple days.

Skyboxer did you have trouble with the method we talked about via pm?

Also - post video up for us to see too. I honestly used to hate looking at my swing, but now I love it. I could use without seeing the added LBS I've put on throughout the years though

No trouble with the beginning of the takeaway.. I had already been doing that takeaway but not the full swing idea.(Reason #1 the golf trip was great! )
For some reason as I was taking the club back it was nearly over my freaking head.. Don't ask me what caused me to do this as I have no clue. When I watched the video I couldn't believe it. I really didn't feel like I was that steep...

Once I got back on plane/flatter I was back to pretty solid contact.

Tomorrow will tell the tale. I'm just very happy I could self diagnose it and make the fix in time..

And I wouldn't post that video it it would save a truck load of puppies

Well I played today until the rain and lighting made me quit. Made it to 13 and shot a 75 through 12 holes. Not as good as my last round but the course was much tougher today. I didn't lose a ball on the first 9 so that was a positive.

I don't think I'm fully releasing after impact. It's very apparent in my iron swing videos. I think it is because I'm really focusing on trying to keep that right foot from coming too much up on the downswing. However ever after I make contact, I'm still keeping my foot planted... which may be killing some distance.
Very Sergio-Esque transition there with the arms at the top. Not sure I am a huge fan of it but the club drops into the swing plane nicely so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

One thing I would like to see is a little better posture. There seems to be virtually no knee bed in your setup at address whatsoever and being that upright can sure cause inconsistent ball striking if your not swinging all the way through it.

I also wouldn't concern yourself with keep that right foot planted. Many top golfers use that right foot to drive through a shot and have it leaving the ground way before impact.

I played Friday and shot 77. Best round of the year so far and finally feel like I'm starting to play a little better. I'm still not striking it great, but my short game is getting back to normal. Putting and chipping are strong points for me, but up until this last week or two that part of my game has just not been sharp.

I'm testing out new hybrids right now and so far Titleist is the winner. I still need to try a couple more, but I'm gonna be making a purchase soon. Can't wait.

Yeah the posture thing has been a battle. Some days it's good and others I stand too upright. I know you shouldn't always model your swing like a pro, but I am actually going more for Dufner than Sergio which is humorous. Thanks for the comments and criticism!

Here is Sergio's for comparison. Very similar arm transition.

Dufner's is a great swing to model after. Very quiet with the lower half. Short compact swing and keeps that right elbow tight to the body and extends nicely through the golf ball.

Went to drop off my clubs to get new grips and decided to pick these up and give them a try. Hoping using them at the range a few times will help with my alignment.
