    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I have been playing a lot more this year than I ever had, unfortunately my control has been a real issue. So today I spent all morning watching YouTube videos, spent another hour modifying my swing in my backyard, and it has paid off. Went to the driving range and hit straight shot after straight shot. I lost a little bit of distance on my drive as I'm swinging slower and focusing on my swing but I'll take the extra control.

I can't wait to go play 18 after work tomorrow, really feel like I made a huge improvement today.

I left 3 putts that I'd like back on the front, but overall can't be mad about that for the first round with the new driver. Finally have a driver I feel I can control and hit well, a year after putting a driver back in the bag.
And to follow that up, I threw a 41/36 out there today. I suppose the new sticks can stay in the bag.

It's definitely what I experienced. Everything is longer now. Shots sailing clear of the green. After a few rounds like this, its frustrating, but crazy to see the distance. After adjusting, I looked at a par 3 that was 185 yards, teebox was a little elevated, and I instinctively grabbed my 7 iron. Missed the green to the right, but was pin-high.

Played 9 holes last night after work. Shot 48 on par 36. Iron play was a lot better as my distances were more accurate, but I was missing the green either left or right. I developed a fade with my irons that wasn't there before.

Short game let me down and cost me about 3 or 4 shots. I putted well and once again got off the tee exceptionally well.

After my last several rounds I've decided to go get a lesson in. Just felt I needed to fine-tune some things. Appointment is at 6:30 tonight.

                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Been a while since I posted here...

Last year, I got a set of Taylormade Rocketbladez Irons. I struggled early with them only to have the guy at the range say to me... "have you ever been fitted? Those are way too short it looks like." Long story short, he fixed me up with an extra 1.5 inches in them. Since, I have NEVER hit irons better in my life.

Recently, been falling out of love with them. Still hit them well, but they are the HL (high lofts) versions of the Rocketbladez. I'm positive at this point, that I hit my PW higher, than I do long. The problem is, I've got a massive gap in yardage now from my 9I to my PW. The lofts between them are so far apart, I can't bridge that gap.

I've got a set of Taylormade Aeroburner irons on the way that I snagged used for a good price. Lofts are a bit better on these. so I'm going to get them adjusted up, and mix and match with the different lofts between the two to fill in my gaps. All should be well for me.

My problem... the Driver. I'd been hitting the Nike Covert 2.0, the red one... I've struggled with it since day one. Massive slicing issues, even after closing the face and adjusting it every way imaginable. This year, I decided our time together was through. Picked up the TM R15. My initial range sessions were great, my first 3 rounds, I could do no wrong with that club off the tee. Splitting fairways. Long. The odd one would be maybe about 5-10 yards offline to the right, not a wild slice though, just straight off the face a bit right. I'll never complain about that. Fast forward to the last 7 or so rounds. The slice is back. I set the weights to what TM says is most forgiving... slice right. Set the weights to the inside to promote left hitting shots. I either slice it, or hit it left. That's issue #1 I'm dealing with right now..

Issue # 2... I have some crazy intense pain in my left wrist since about mid June. It feels like it's sprained, or I've pulled something. So painful to even just start my backswing. Even worse when I get to the top of it, then come back down and through the ball. So bad at one point near the end of June that the club went flying out of my hands it hurt so bad. Last week or so, it's gotten better, but it's still noticeable. Not sure if I've been involving my wrists way too much in my swing, and that's lead to this issue, and maybe the slicing issue. I was set to go to the doctor to get it checked out, but it's feeling a bit better as of late. I feel I'm all of out of sorts lately with my wrist issue. I'd love if it was the only thing causing my problems, but the slicing issue with the driver started before the wrist.

Strange though, Iron's and hybrids are dead straight. Driver is a loose cannon. I'm managing to still shoot low to mid 90's, with the odd upper 80's round this year, so I can't complain. Played on Saturday, shot a 91(and I left 2 birdie puts a half inch short, and left probably 3 par putts less then two inches), which I was happy with considering the discomfort.

Sorry for the rambling, but any thoughts from anyone on the slice, or the wrist would be appreciated. Someone here had posted a tip on stance about a year ago that seemed to work with my slice, but of course it was the end of the season that year and it's long forgotten by me now too lol

                  The OS Golfer's Thread!

Went and had a lesson and can't believe how messed up my swing had become. Swing plane was off as well as my grip being to strong which was causing every iron shot to go left.

Look forward to spending the next couple weeks just working on this before going back out on the course.

Probably worth seeing a doctor about your wrist just to make sure it's nothing serious (i.e. tendon/ligament damage). It could just be a sprain/strain or a form of repetitive stress injury, but you should probably ignore everything I said because I'm just some guy on the internet.

10:30 tee time. Have a sleeve each of Callaway Chrome Softs, e6's, B330-RX's, and Srixon Soft Feels. Going to try them all and see which works and feels bests.

Playing the course I posted a few posts above.

Definitely saw an improvement yesterday. Didn't lose as many balls as I did in my previous 3 rounds. Between experimenting with 2 different drivers, I've also came to the conclusion that regular flex clubs fit me well.

That post just got me to thinking about when the last time I lost a ball was. It was on June 29 - 7 rounds ago. I did take one unplayable lie from very tall grass since then, but yeah...that's a pretty good streak.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I also chucked a ball into the woods after missing a 2-foot par putt. But I'm not counting that

I'm still working on correcting a slice. Back 9 was way the hell better than the front 9.

2:00 tee time with the temperature in the low 90's and 11 mph winds. Time will tell whether this was a good idea or not. Upside is it looks like the cronies and I will have the course to ourselves.

Since I said this, today I lost a ball from the exact same spot and way as the last one. Bladed sand wedge over the green and OB on a short par 4.

That was the 2nd of 3 doubles in a row, but I recovered to shoot a 79. Playing in our club team championship 2-man best ball.. Partner also shot a 79, but we alternated having good holes and shot a 71. Had my first eagle of the year too.
