The Good: iron shots were phenomenal. I was striking my irons very well, most of the time.

Wedges: Holy cow these were a game changer. Once I get used to the distances with them and find the right groove with them, these will be some great clubs to use to shave some strokes off of my game (great job Mizuno).

Putting. I would say my putting was above average. The strategy was aim for the big part of the green and 2 putt. Worked some times, others it didn't.

The part of the game which had me frustrated all the was the driver. I only hit 2 or 3 fairways the entire round. Had a very nasty slice off the tee which i couldn't seem to correct as the round progressed.

Now, the next part may have been a bit of an impulsive and reactionary move, but right after the round was over I drove to Dick's and went driver shopping. I settled on a 2015 Callaway XR. Regular Shaft (215 after tax). 9 degree loft which is adjustable. I have it set now at 10 degrees with a draw bias.

(On the subject of driver loft, I heard more loft is better for beginners. In that case, should I jack my driver up to 11 degrees?)

I will most likely be playing again on Saturday.

10.5 is a common loft for amateur golfers.

The only 10.5 they had in the store was stiff flex, and the guy helping me out said my swing didn't warrant a stiff flex. So I might try 11 degrees and see what happens.

What was your swing speed with the driver? If your swinging around 80 your launch angle needs to be between 13-15 degrees. If your hitting the ball on a 2 degree upswing, which is ideal for the driver, then you need a driver set between 11-13 degrees. If your at 85, then the launch angle drops to about 12.5-14 or a driver set between 10.5-12. The faster your swing speed with the driver, the lower your launch angle, thus the lower your driver can be set. Most amateurs don't play enough loft.

As for shaft flex, swing speed and tempo come into play. I've had guys in their 60's and 70's who's swing speed says senior flex but need a regular because of their tempo, thus they are able to control the ball better and it it straighter.

Also depending on your height and ability, a 3W shaft could benefit you in the driver. I've put a 3W shaft in people's driver because they hit it straighter. Sure they lost anywhere from 7-15 yards but they were keeping it straighter.

Dick's didnt have a Trackman. They only had Full Swing Golf, and they didn't have swing speed as one of their stats.

          Height is about 5'10".

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Had an interesting day on the course. On the front 9, I hit 7 out of 7 fairways (1st time ever), however My approach shots were horrible. I hit 4 out of 9 G.I.R. That's including 2 par 3 where I hit 1 and missed the other. Ended up with a 42 on the front and a 44 on the back. Today was a mixed bag out there. Golf is hard. Thinking about it, makes it harder.

Drove the ball slightly better today. Was turning my wrists over too much on my iron shots causing the ball to go left more than I would have wanted. Putting could have been better. Had a birdie opportunity that I blew due to a 3 putt.

Height is irrelevant for anything club spec related. Also, don't need swing speed necessarily to fit to a shaft. The simulators give ball speed, which can be converted to swing speed. Too many people get fixated on swing speed, that's why they don't have it on the program. Swing speed is also irrelevant in terms of how you should launch the ball. It all comes down to spin. The lower the spin, the higher the ball should be launched. 2400 RPMs of backspin at 14 degrees of launch is optimal launch conditions, less spin, higher launch, more spin, lower launch.

Side note, interesting to see Nike dropping the price point on the Vapor Fly drivers, woods, and hybrids so soon. They must be really hurting on their sales this year, or are trying to bring something new in fall as a last ditch effort. Nike's club department seems to be on life support.

Lastly, been able to hit the Ping iBlade iron that is due for release in the near future. Holy ****, what an absolutely exceptional club. Phenomenal forged club.

Understood. The XR adjusted to 11 degree loft with draw bias helped with my driving. Hit some drives which had the other 2 people I was playing with call me Mark McGuire. Just need to develop a more consistent swing with the big stick.

As for the Nikes, the hybrids are on my radar. Have seen them for about 90 bucks each on various websites. Probably will look at a 3 and a 4.

Yep. That's the price point now, apparently. $150 for the driver, $100 for the fairway, $90 for the hybrid.

Sure seems like Nike fell apart when I left them for TaylorMade.

Has anyone played the Mizuno MP-15s?

I've been looking into Mizunos and there are so many different models, it's tough to figure out which ones would be the best for my game, but I think the 15s are it.

Played an 18 round today. Shot +4 76. My score didn't match how I played at all though. I was hitting the ball really well off the tee and with my approaches. It was when my shots went offline and I had to chip where I had my issues. I was constantly leaving myself 10+ footers for par and no matter how good you are at putting, you won't make them all.

I documented my round on snap chat today and posted the video on Youtube. Check it out!

Can I still call him January Jimmy? Also WTH was up with pushing the PGA up so early? I really hope it wasn't for the Olympics but I assume that is what it was for.
