Played 18 today. Driving was better than previous trips out, but still needs improvement. Best club has been my 5h, as I have been able to hit shots consistently straight.

Bought a dozen e6's, brought 6 on the course, all 6 never made it back.

      Good fun.

Tee time tmrw @ 9. Can't wait. Last round, I used my newer swing and my approach shots were all long and over the green. Good accuracy, just too far, hopefully tmrw is different.

With your new swing, you may have gained som new distance. It recently happened to me and it threw me for a loop. Maybe it's what you experienced.
I am the lesson after the fall.

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

So one thing I've been doing lately which has actually increased my distance and contact purity tremendously is almost actively 'stopping' my arms during downswing at the point where they reach the ball, and then letting the clubhead 'whip' through and pass my hands at the ball. My arms don't actually ever stop, but the feeling of slowing the arms and letting the clubhead travel through the hitting area is really what I'm going for.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone describe anything like this (not exactly anyway), and I know it's potentially bad advice, but I started doing it because when I watch swing videos of good golfers, I've noticed that the clubhead passes their hands maybe just slightly after impact, which means at some point their arms actually slow down after the initial part of the downswing.

I'm sure really good golfers don't think of the sensation in this way, but I'd be interested what you guys think of this approach? I've been able to hit some pretty big shots, but thin blocks or outright hooks are the miss with this swing. On the plus side, I've hit 290+ off the tee (verified via GPS) with even about a 5-10 draw which I've never done before, to my knowledge. On the negative side, it's inconsistent.

I think it's walking the line between "flipping" the hands and "releasing" the hands, although I've never really heard anyone give me a good description of what the difference is.

Been there, done that (most recently this time last year), will probably be back there at least a few more times before it's all said and done...

I had a pretty nice range session today. Of course that just makes me hyped for tomorrow. Have to keep emotions in check and just relax for 18 holes.

Dude, lessons are the worst. In HS our team went to a PGA pro for group lessons, and that guy f'd me up so bad that I went from averaging 78 to averaging 89 and I ended up quitting golf for over a year. Luckily my old swing magically came back when I decided to go out again finally, but still.

I think it's just all a matter of who you go to. The problem is there's no way in advance to figure out who is good or bad (or good or bad for you personally) before going to them, so I think you have to just take a lesson or two from a few different pros before you settle on who you feel like you 'click' with and who seems like they're speaking your language. I realize not everyone has that luxury, but if you do, I think that's the only way lessons are useful. If you get the wrong person (for you), things can obviously get worse as CC mentioned.

Personally, I've been to about 3 different instructors in the past ~1 year, and it took until the 3rd guy to find someone who actually was able to address some of my real issues. Also, you have to take a series of lessons for it to take hold; for example, you can't take 1 piano lesson and expect to be able to play the piano. Obviously it's not cheap so I can understand no one's going to take 20 lessons or whatever, but at least 4-5 I think to get some fundamentals re-established is reasonable.

Of course, there are people who can effectively self-diagnose and if you just video your own swing a lot and do some analysis, I've seen that work for some people. At the end of the day, it's just whatever works for you. However you can find to make the game fun again is the most important thing, I think.

2nd time is as many tries that my after work 9 holes of golf has been rained out.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Well it was a great time, mainly due to the course was beautiful. However it was also a pretty hard course. Not terribly hard but hard... lol
I had my usual couple bad holes and finished with a years worst so far of a 101.

Green: Ice = Pretty timid putting.
I'm not upset because the course was a thinking course which made it even more fun that usual.
Lots of holes that you really had to think about a plan of attack due to fairway run out etc...
The most thinking about course management I've had to do ever. We plan on going back pretty soon

Went out and hit my dad's driver today (TaylorMade RBZ, Stiff Flex, 9.5), and compared to the one that came with my set of clubs, I was hitting straighter shots with his driver in comparison to mine. Mine is a Strata 460cc regular flex.

Got my M2 driver (w/ Kuro Kage 70 stiff shaft) and my M2 3HL fairway (w/ Ozik White Tie 70 stiff) in the mail today. Got to play a round with them this evening. Proceeded to go 40, 39. I left 3 putts that I'd like back on the front, but overall can't be mad about that for the first round with the new driver. Finally have a driver I feel I can control and hit well, a year after putting a driver back in the bag.
