Played that 2v2 best ball today for $100. Was looking grim at the turn, we were down 3 holes. Then we just flicked a switch and got it to even after the 13th. We used every one of my shots on the next hole, a par 5, including a 30 footer for birdie to go up 1, played decent the next few holes and then on 17, a 190yd par 3, I stuck a 6 iron to ten feet and we won 2&1.

It was a very fun day. I'm ready for my tournament this weekend

Shot 86 today, which ties my personal best. It could have been better though. I kept hitting my irons flush, but on three or four straight holes, they found the green side bunker, and I didn't save par once. I'm 300% more confident driving the ball than I was just two weeks ago, before a lesson. I'n putting great too, but could always be better. One 3 putt per round is still not good enough for me.

46th round of the season today and posted an 85. If I could only putt. I had 4 three putts. The greens at the Country Club are undulating and fast, it's like putting on an upside down bowl, and today they had the mean pin positions in. My putting is keeping me from consistently shooting in he 70's. My next few lessons will be definitely be on putting.
I am the lesson after the fall.

Getting back into playing golf this year after a few years off. I'm still playing on a cheap set of irons I bought in college. My driver and woods are just various that people have given me over the years so I'm looking to upgrade my clubs. Any advice on how to go about this for a taller player on a budget? Most people recommend trying clubs before buying but this doesn't seem to be an option for somebody like me who needs custom length/lie.

My current clubs are 1" longer and while we didn't do a proper fitting yet my instructor said I will probably need them lengthened 1/2" to 1" and "a couple of degrees upright". I'm 6'4 with 37.5" wrist to floor so this matches up with the Ping and other charts found online.

Is my best bet finding a set with good reviews and purchasing from someplace like Calloway pre-owned who will customize them for you?

If I find a good set on sale that is standard length/lie what are my options for customizing after the fact?

Do any of the taller players on here customize their driver/woods length or pretty much just irons?

Played 9 holes after work last night. Shot 50. My iron play once again let me down, as I'm either too long or too short. I also 3 putted 6 greens!

I'm getting off the tee about as well as I can. Leaving myself mid to short irons to the green which I cannot hit right now to save my soul. Normally I struggle off the tee but make up for it with solid iron play and a terrific short game. I also typically put very well.

I have a tee time set up for Saturday morning but there is a threat of weather so I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to get out and play or not. Supposed to be a threat of weather all holiday weekend long.

Use the Ping chart, you seem pretty similar to me and I have the green dots. You can get a used set of G25's off ebay pretty reasonable. I only have my irons custom fit. Most company's don't offer custom woods and drivers. I called Ping because I wanted custom woods and they don't do it.

The Cleveland Launcher woods were the closest thing I could find to match the angle of my irons which is having the hozzle a few degrees upright.

DO NOT customize stock sets after the fact. All they will do is plug the handle and not get the correct hozzle angle, it will lead to problems.

Posted a 77 today. I missed 5 birdie putts in a row. My lowest round yet.

                  Congrats!

Only way I would shoot a 77 is for 9 holes...

I'd be dissapointed with that, considering you could have had 72...

Yep, I shot a 39 on the front last year with 21 putts. That haunted me. Could have gone so low. I had some lip outs and burned edges and then missed the comebackers. Brutal.

Of course I also had a round where I was thinning a bunch of shots and missing greens, but ended up with a 74 and 24 putts.

It all evens out, but golf is such a fickle game, always making you think of the what if scenarios.

New clubs, that's a great feeling. Heck, I get excited to play a round with just one new club, or even balls that I've never used before.

After today I'm off until Thursday. Rain all day tomorrow but only a passing shower Tuesday (Clear Wednesday).
Right now we have a foursome scheduled for 11am Tuesday. And "probably" will go out again Wednesday.
