Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Posted an 85 today. Had a par, par, birdie, DOUBLE BOGIE streak. I almost always post a big score after a birdie. Grrrrrr. I was happy with the round. Lipped out a few puts that cost me, however I was hitting the ball well. 62 rounds in the bag and my index is 12.2. I'm going to need to be more consistent to get below a 10.I am the lesson after the fall.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I got a round in on Sunday, wrist is still bothering me. Really need to get on making an appointment to get it checked out, but I fear the bad news in doing so. lol
As for the round... it was... odd. I played a course around here I've only played twice in my life, in an annual charity tournament. Last year as part of a prize pack, I won 4 gift cards, for 18 with a cart for 2 people. Went to use them, man... I tell you, if I had to pay I would have turned around and gone home. The course is in such rough shape from the drought we've been having around here. Their irrigation ponds are basically dry. Fairways were still ok, greens were good, but the rough... basically brown, thin, dead and the ground like cement.
That being said, I struggled, but still managed to shoot an 89. Mostly because shots I hit bad, would end up in the rough, and getting huge bounces and extra distance because it was so dry out there. One particular hole, I was going to hit a 5 iron, just to get myself around 100 out, I hit it thin and low, she caught the edge of the rough and just bounced and rolled up onto the fringe.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I only drink Gatorade while playing. I typically don't drink beer at the golf course. After the round if we decide to do lunch at the clubhouse then I'll typically drink water, or a soda every once in a while.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

You have to find the right slot. Just enough to relax the muscles a bit, but not so much that you are impaired. We call it 'talent juice'.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I agree with this 110%. A beer or two, I improve. Once I start to get a buzz... my game falls apart.
I've also got a low dose anxiety med that I take sometimes before having to do some public speaking or flying. I sometimes take one before a round, especially in a work related tournament where I'm playing with strangers and stuff, I find that helps relax me bigtime to the point where I'll play significantly better. It's the mental part of the game that gets me a lot, I just can't get out of my own head after a bad shot, or bad hole. Think I'm going to take someone's suggestion early on those books to check out.Miami Dolphins - Detroit Red Wings - Toronto Blue Jays - Michigan Wolverines - CANADAComment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
My wedge set is going to be here on Thursday, and I plan on going to the range and playing 18 not too long after. It's awesome having 2 days off during the weekday where the greens fees are much more cheaper than the weekends.GT:jb12780

Weekday mid-day golf is the greatest thing ever. I always feel like I'm cheating life somehow whenever I'm out there on a random Tuesday at 11AM....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Got back Sunday night from a tournament in Traverse City. We won our flight but were eliminated on a chip-off in the finals. I finished 3rd in the horse race which I was paired with a random partner in alternate shot. Overall we won about $600 in gift cards and side bets. Should have bet more I guess.
My best round of the weekend was a 77 on the Wolverine. Had some people question my handicap, but give me wide fairways and a 6000 yard course, what do they think is going to happen. They were lucky it was a 77 because I had back to back 3 putts and burned the cup on a couple birdies.
The Bear tore me up a little it was windy and I hit some shots short going for some tough pins and ended up in some really deep bunkers, but I still had 11 pars on that round. Should have had a few birdies, had alot of putts 15 feet and in that didn't fall as in went half way down and did a magic trick and popped out. I picked up on a few holes that my partner was doing well on so I don't know what my score was for sure, but it was in the mid 80's somewhere.
I also shot an 80 and 82 on the Spruce Run. That course is a little bit tighter.
Had 2 chip ins over the weekend. Also playing against 2 different teams and one dunked one from 180 for and eagle after taking an iron off the tee and another 150 yard eagle. Amazing to see that stuff happen.
Finally I feel like my swing is back, I was really struggling early in the year with blading approach shots, but I didn't do that a single time in 72+ holes over that tournament.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
After a knee surgery in 2013 and a couple busy years where I didn't get to play any, I'm back to playing much more consistently this year. My 8-year old also started playing this year, so that has gotten me out much more thankfully!
I had a chance to shoot a 78 with a par at the last a couple days ago, but I three-putted for double bogey to shoot 80. I was very disappointed because I haven't broken 80 since 2008 I believe, but on the other hand, I was pretty happy to see so many positive signs for the first time in a long time. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before I get back in the 70's!Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
So, today was the first round where I actually kept score. Well, I shot somewhere in the 150 range. There were some positives, and there was one major problem which cost me a lot of strokes.
The Good: iron shots were phenomenal. I was striking my irons very well, most of the time.
Wedges: Holy cow these were a game changer. Once I get used to the distances with them and find the right groove with them, these will be some great clubs to use to shave some strokes off of my game (great job Mizuno).
Putting. I would say my putting was above average. The strategy was aim for the big part of the green and 2 putt. Worked some times, others it didn't.
The part of the game which had me frustrated all the was the driver. I only hit 2 or 3 fairways the entire round. Had a very nasty slice off the tee which i couldn't seem to correct as the round progressed.
Now, the next part may have been a bit of an impulsive and reactionary move, but right after the round was over I drove to Dick's and went driver shopping. I settled on a 2015 Callaway XR. Regular Shaft (215 after tax). 9 degree loft which is adjustable. I have it set now at 10 degrees with a draw bias.
(On the subject of driver loft, I heard more loft is better for beginners. In that case, should I jack my driver up to 11 degrees?)
I will most likely be playing again on Saturday.
