This is pretty cool. You totally straighten out your right leg on the back swing. That's going to rob you of power. That might just be how you play your shorter courses, but you won't be getting everything out of your swing if your going for distance. Just an observation. Carry on.

      Hey fist, thanks, man!

This is a very non-traditional swing, and I'm still learning the little things about it that make huge gains. The main benefit, for me, is that this a swing method that is built off of playing from a pre-set position, versus micro-managing the motions to get there. Very little moving parts, and my entire right side is not used - which is why I still struggle, because it definitely still creeps up (as evidenced of my over the top swing).

Here is Jim's YT if you're just curious (I know you have a good golf game already and don't want anyone to go down the paths I have, and continue to have gone):

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played in the opening round of my club championship match play. I decided to go for it and signed up for the championship flight. Play straight up. I drew a 2 handicapper 6'6 ex D1 QB. He was hitting his hybrid down the pipe 270 all day, the one time he mi**** a tee shot, he pulled out a 7 iron from 205 and it stuck on a dime in the center of the green. I got rolled.

He shot a 32 on the front. I was a bit nervous and pretty much gave away 3 out of the first 4 holes. Tying 1 and losing 3 but he parred 3 and birdied 1 of them so I probably wasn't going to do much but push anyway. So hole 5, 600 yard par 5. I rip my drive 320 as it caught a downhill slope, next shot I pull out a wood and drill it but it catches a branch on the only tree on the right side of the hole and bounds into heather grass, I rip an 8 iron out of there, throw a wedge up to 15 feet and make a miracle par, he birdies. Next hole 200 yard par 3, I hit it pin high just off the green, he goes long, chips to 12 feet, I chip to 6, he drains his putt, mine lips out.

Next hole uphill par 5 500 yards, I rip my drive leaving me with 220, I put a wood 12 feet from the pin just off the green pin high in the fringe, he's got a down hill 30 footer.....he drains it for eagle, my putt just comes up short. Lose on a birdie........I lip out my par putt on the next hole, he makes his. We tied 9 with a par, I actually won 10 and 12, but got closed out on 13.

Humbling experience, but now I know what I need to do. Good old fashion arse whoopin.

In practice I use some of his theory which is eliminate as many moving parts as possible. So for example, instead of addressing the ball with equal weight on each foot, I start with 70% or so on my right foot. That makes me get my weight back otherwise I just swing with my arms. Keep the right knee bent and drive off the back leg. On the irons and even the wood to some extent, I forward press my club so even if the ball is back in my stance, my hands are even with my left thigh. All of this makes me swing down and through the ball and eliminates extra motions that I find unnecessary.

Bottom line use whatever swing you can to make consistent solid contact, but at some point if you need more distance you will probably need to incorporate driving off the right leg and through the ball to get more clubhead speed and power through impact. My iron swing speed is in the low 80's but my 7 iron is 165 because I make crisp contact and probably deloft the clubs a little bit with the forward press. then you go 10 yards per club each way so 8 iron 155, 9 140/145 wedge 130, utility 115/120, sand 95-110, standard lob 85/95 and a 58* vokey anything under 80.

I usually get in 1 or 2 single tournaments per year. I love competitive golf especially match play because you can blow up on a hole and it only counts as a hole, just move on.

I play in a few 2 person best ball tournaments which are basically 9 hole round robins against 5 other teams. Take the best score of our two scores per team and whoever wins the most holes out of the 6 teams plays in a shootout against the other groups winners in an alternate shot format for the overall win. But you can win a lot of cash at these. They do a Calcutta auction to get the prize pot. last year I played in one with 14,000 in the pot. I won our pod once and I my buddy and I split 1100 had a second place finish for 800.

And I play in a ton of skins games. I am usually good for throwing a good birdie or 2 in on some tough holes so I usually stand a chance to make some money. Last year caught magic in a bottle and won 1200 in skins for the year.

I usually make just enough break even on all my entry fees but sometimes like last year, I was able to pay for basically all of my golf for the year with skin money.

You take a pretty nice divot, Matt. Jealous. I was taking a decent divot for a couple of years, but recently switched my swing and dont often take a nice one anymore.

Been playing some solid rounds lately. Had an 83 and an 89 last week. And a little bit of a blow up round with a 93, I crumbled on the back nine during that round. Shot a 42 last night. But now I get to hit the restart button on my golf season. The M2 irons came in the mail today. Hitting a par 3 course tomorrow morning to familiarize myself with them before I have a match up this weekend. Looking forward to seeing what I can do with them.

Same with me. In my quest to get an inside-out swing path, my swing plane has shallowed out considerably and now I hit almost everything thin. It's really annoying.

Thanks, man. I used to never take a divot like that. Never. Before I used Jim's method, I was a sweeper. I'm still coming over the top in that video, but it's getting better. Staying completely on my left side, I would be concerned if I didn't take a good divot.

I think shallow is what everyone wants. I couldn't know what would be causing those thin shots.

Part of the reason I took up this method is because I wanted to remove all the variables of self-diagnosing my swing. In traditional methods, the diagnosis could be multiple things (ever read the golfing machine?). With Jim Venetos method, I am able to diagnose my miss-hits. 90% of the issues are when my right side get involved, the other 10% are mental of just not committing.

The next vlog update will have some big news!

I hear you. I started playing my hands more forward than they "should" be, and also utilizing a little hinging and have started making some great, lofty approach shots, but it's changed everything. I think I'll stay with it though. I have a round tomorrow, so that will give me a better idea.

I used to be a forward press guy but last year went to a neutral setup with hands.
I have a good inside out path ...but my biggest issue is having the same posture each time. I will get lazy and start slumping over which leads to the chunky monkey...
Mental crap for me as usual.

Looking forward to the charity event tomorrow. No pressure and can just "play" and see how I do.

Well the day turned out to be a beautiful day weather wise and overall was a blast.
We came in -1 around the middle of the pack.
As far as my game I've come to the conclusion my issues are simply mental.
Today with best ball format and no real pressure I played the best I have ever played.
Only missed a couple fairways but not by much and hit 1.... 1! bad shot as far as a chunk. And even then it wasn't a huge chunk.
Swing was fluid and just felt right all day.

Need to get that feeling when I'm playing regular....
