Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
No problem! Have fun! It is such a beautiful course and more difficult than anything I have ever played. Headed up to WSU for a wedding this weekend and getting a round in at Palouse Ridge. Hopefully that course treats me a little better.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Had a bizarre round the other day I thought I would share. I made 17 pars and an out of bounds double bogey on the easiest hole on the course, a short par 5. There was a guy cutting grass and I waited forever for him to move and it was bothering me, so I tee off and my subconscious fear of hitting the guy wins and I hit it over the fence OB. Kept lipping out makeable birdie putts and had a ton of tap in pars but made 2 miraculous pars with 20 foot putts while missing at least a dozen birdie putts that were closer.
Strange game, this golf.Comment

Hitting up the driving range tomorrow before playing Highland Creek in Charlotte on Saturday. I'm playing with one of my groomsmen, another former teammate of mine, and hopefully my brother. It should be a blast.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Just bought a smash bag to hopefully help me to stop casting and get a little more lag in my swing.
I have a problem of casting my wrists about halfway through my down swing. I figure its costing me at least 25 yards on my driver and 3 wood and probably 10 yards on my irons.
I drive the ball 230 or so carry and about 10 to 30 yards of roll. My 3 wood goes about 200 in the air. 7 iron about 160 in the air.
Anyone else have some good tips to increase lag?Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Lag is this sort of mythical being that is needed for tremendous length in the golf swing. Obviously a little is needed for club head speed, but something like Tiger is excessive and unnecessary, especially in his newer swing.
Lag should be naturally created in the swing, if you are firing your hips in the golf swing properly and not trying to use your arms to hit the golf ball.
One way that I "feel" lag, is after turning my hips, I try to feel like I'm throwing the bottom of my left hand down towards the ball in a straight line.
If you are having trouble casting, I would try a donut on the club and really feel the weight of the golf club and let your wrists be loose and free.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
To reiterate, you look at a guy like Jason Day, who is Top 20 on Tour in driving distance, who doesn't really have a ton of lag, but great hip rotation and extension thru the golf swing.

I'm a lefty, but dad had right-handed clubs around the house so I learned to golf right handed.
I also play guitar righty. But I throw, bowl, and write left handed.GO 'HAWKS!

Funny thing is, I had hip surgery a few years back and was driving the ball further before the surgery when my swing was all fouled up and I kept my weight exclusively on my left side. At some point I got in this bad habit of starting my swing with my arms and unhinging my wrists early.
I still play pretty solid, coming in usually between 78 and 88 on a 6700 yard course. It really comes down to how well I am putting. I'm a 12 handicap but if the putter is working I take everyone's money because I'll be down around 78 or 79.
But if I could get an extra 25 off the tee, I'd be hitting short irons into the 430 yard par 4's and the par 5's would be reachable in 2. My score would really improve because I can usually pitch darts with the short irons, but with most par 4's over 410 yards, I'm hitting longer clubs into those greens with less accuracy.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Yesterday was our last league day so we did a 9-hole scramble...finished T2 at -3. I actually hit two of our birdie putts (both were 10-12 footers), so I can't complain, although I was slicing the **** out of my irons today which is something I never do.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played 9 holes yesterday. Made a slight change to my stance. Stood about 4 inches closer to the ball. Like the effects, but it really screwed up my distances. My 7 iron is in the 150 yard range. I had a approach that was 156 yards to a back pin location and I hit my 7 iron and it ended up flying over the back of the green by a good 15 yards. It was like that the entire 9 holes with this change. So I may need to go back to the range and redial in my yardages, I really would've liked to have played the whole 18 but, the course was slow (9 holes in 2:45) and people were being stupid.Moderator

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Just got back from Chambers Bay. Holy crap, what a difficult course! Bunkers...bunkers everywhere.
Started off the front 9 with a nice, healthy 68 lol. Came back with a pretty decent 56. Or at least decent for my standards. Ended with a 124. Feeling pretty good about it, all things considered. Lots of fun, absolutely fantastic views, and just a great time. Really wish I had my new irons, as that could've made a nice difference. My driver was really on today (again, by my standards). Still need tons of work on putting though.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
So close to breaking 100! Bah!!! Played a round at a slightly more difficult course (127 slope rating vs. the 113 of my usual course). Ended up shooting a 102 which is my personal best so far. Had a 48 on the back 9, which is easily the best I have ever done. Never broken 50 before on a 9 hole stretch. That 10 on the 5th hole really, really sucked. Started off the day with horrendous putting, but it got a bit better as the day went on. From the 6th-11th I was feeling pretty great about my putting as I was finally able to string together some 2 putts. Those 4 putts though...ouch.
Still really, really loving my driver. Hitting the fairways with much greater consistency. Not really getting great distance yet, but that's why I play the whites.
The putting still needs to improve by leaps and bounds, but I'm feeling good about my progress so far.Attached FilesComment
