Shot an 82 yesterday on my birthday. I shot it on a par 72 course. 41 on the front and 41 on the back. I didn't hit the ball of the tee particularly well, didn't putt too bad, and didn't chip great. I just didn't do anything bad, thus I scored well. First time I've ever broken 85. I had a birdie, a double bogey, and everything else were pars and bogeys. I played in the worst conditions possible too.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
LOL...I love reading this thread and seeing people posting scores of 70s/80s.....
I started playing on Father's Day with my dad's clubs (he passed away a year ago) and hit the range.....
I've played 5 full rounds (not counting the par three pitch and putts I hit once a week) and have shot a 126, 118, 123, 125 and 125). The last two rounds were on the same course when I visited North Carolina....
I holed out from about 30 yards the other day....THAT was the best moment of the trip by far....
And I'm not using a driver on the course yet...I'm teeing off with a three wood and have been getting much better about keep them straight. My first round was slice city, but I'm reading, taking tips and hitting into the net in my backyard and I actually feel like I know where a majority of my shots are gonna go....but you throw in getting stuck in a trap or the shot or so every hole that derails me and my scores end up higher than I'd like.....Last edited by Brian Gee; 08-07-2011, 05:04 PM.The line must be drawn HERE! You'll improve pretty quickly, especially at first. I went from shooting 62-68 to shooting 50-55 most of the time (I'm talking 9 holes, btw) in about a year of playing regularly. I'm hoping to break 100 soon. I've been playing pretty well lately.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Went out for the second time ever last night. I'm still not keeping score and we still didn't finish all 18 before it got too dark. I'm just out there having fun and breaking into things slowly. I really think this is something that I could get into.
I'm eyeing this set: http://www.amazon.com/Top-Flite-13-P...2258546&sr=8-1 to get me started, and hopefully things take off from hereComment

Something for you beginners that's kind of cool. If you have a smartphone download the app called golfshot. It's a gps, but that's not the useful part for you guys. It's got a great little stat tracker built in that could help you show you where you need to focus your practice time. It's 30 bucks, but the regular golf gps rangefinders are hundreds of bucks and they don't keep stats.I'm a Vince McMahon Guy!

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Went to a new course today and shot 83 on a par 71. The thing is, I started 6-6-8 for 20 shots on the first 3 holes. Ended 43 on the front and 40 on the back. Shanks caught me again, and I'm starting to feel like Red 3 from Star Wars just before he got shot by Vader......"I can't shake em!!!!"Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played my home course (Santiam golf club in Oregon) Shot a 74 yesterday with my bro and former high school golf coach and his kid.
Shot even on the front with 1 birdie and 1 bogey but drove it into a huge bush just off the fairway on the short par 4 10th. Took an unplayable and scrambled from there for double bogey to start off the back nine. Battle back though and got to even again on the round after back to back birdies on 13 and 14 (both par 5's, reached in 2 on 13) but hit some lose shots down the stretch and made 2 bogies on 16 and 18.
Overall hit it solid and putted well (missed 3-4 birdies puts inside 10 or so feet though) but made a couple nice par saving putts as my touch around the green was pretty bad.
Heading off to University of Idaho to study Marketing and PGA Golf Management in a couple weeks. They have a pretty nice university-owned golf course right on campus, so hopefully I'll be able to practice and especially play more then I have been lately.
Might even try to walk-on next year if I sharpen up my game (I'll probably a 5 handicap or so and have been for 4 years). Most universities don't allow students in their PGM program to play on the golf team as well, but U of I is one of the few that do.
Their team is pretty solid so it's probably wishful thinking, but it's worth a shot.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Wow. Calloway Diablo Edge driver....where have you been the last month and a half?
Long story short: Purchased a 50 dollar RAM driver because the one in my bag was 8 degrees and I couldn't do much with it....played a few rounds and noticed a crack on the face of the club....returned to the store for either an even exchange or store credit and wound up putting it towards the Diablo Driver.....
Wow. What a display of straight and deep shots I had at the range tonight....The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
41 tonight at league.
2 doubles, 2 bogeys, 4 pars, 1 birdie. So very typical for me. I was hot at the end, but couldn't make a putt. I was putting for birdie from between 10-20 feet on each of the last 4 holes, but was only able to drop one of them.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I've been playing real well lately. Winning most of the scrambles I play in. I'm finally hitting the ball like a golfer and not a baseball player anymore. It's pretty nice to hit a straight 280 yard drive. Taking the slice out of my game has also taken about 7 or 8 strokes out too.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I think I might have finally figured out what was wrong with my irons. I went to the range today and hit them much better than I have been. I had really good height on all of my irons and was making much better contact. I'm playing on Wednesday so I really hope this translates onto the course.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Anyone have any good stories or memories of their first round of golf? I'm thinking I might get one or two more driving range sessions in and then venture out for my first real round.
Also, I'm looking for pointers as far as what to bring, basic mistakes to avoid, etc. I'm such a newb at this.Ryan Spencer
