Been golfing for 10 years now, and I'm a 13 handicap, with scores usually somewhere between 80 and 88, but my last outing was completely miserable. Shot a whopping 104, after a horrendous day with my irons. I've JUST started hitting my driver consistently 280+, straight down the middle every time. However, I was playing a course that I've only played twice in my life, and the fairway and rough grass is much thicker than I'm accustomed to, so I continued to hit the ball short on every approach shot, and it tacked on a shot or two per hole.
For some reason I was very hard headed about never going one club more than I would usually use from those distances. I just couldn't bring myself to doing it, as I was worried about hitting it well over. If I play that course again, I'll just have to make myself try that. I can't sleep at night knowing I shot that poorly.

It's funny, though. The guy I was playing with is someone that I've been friends with for several years, and we've probably golfed together 5 or 6 times (twice this past summer), and he ALWAYS seems to bring the worst out in my game. He's a little below average golfer, usually shooting between 105 and 115, and he usually does when we play together. But, for some reason, anytime I golf with the guy, I bring in 90+ on my scorecard.
Anyone have a logical explanation for this? Could it be that I'm having to wait longer between my shots for him to get up to where my ball is on every shot?
You're seeing bad shots that enter your mind. It's easy to get complacent because you lower your expectations as soon as you're done hitting, because no matter what the quality of shots are better than his - problem is you start to settle for sub par scores.

I used to have this issue too when I would golf with a buddy of mine. I decided to take 30 mins before we tee off and make sure he's there so we can work on his swing of aiming and swinging through the ball. I don't want to play with terrible golfers, it ruins my game too because I'm sure they'd be happier if they had good shots, which in turn will help my game.

When I was 2-years-old a club was put in my hands and I've golfed ever since. Not very good, probably a handiecap in the 20s but it's maybe my favorite sport with baseball and football.
      Favorite Teams:
      MLB: Seattle Mariners
      NFL: Seattle Seahawks
      NCAA: Oregon St. Beavers
      NCAA: USC Trojans

One thing that helped me was making sure I wasn't collapsing my back side (mainly my right shoulder dipping). I think this was causing my hands to lead my clubhead too far and the clubface couldn't square up at contact. The ball flight was straight, but it was going 20-30 yards right most of the time. The last time I played I hit my irons much better as a result of attempting to fix this.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm planning to hit the range tomorrow to try and work it out.

I am jst the opposite. I always play my best when golf with people who are high handicappers. For some reason I don't think about my game, but about what I can say to help them.

Shot a 9 over today for 18 holes which wasn't bad considering I was 7 over after 4! Started hitting greens and fairways and it made a huge difference. Going again tomorrow.

I have a stupid question... I just want to get some of your opinions...

I use Taylormade R9 clubs... I've been looking at new golf bags lately and I found one I really like... A nice white Adidas bag... Do you fellas think it would look stupid if I put my Taylormade clubs in a Adidas bag? I know they have a partnership (of some sort)... I just wasn't sure how that would look?

I'm pretty sure Adidas doesn't make golf clubs, so it would be impossible to match brands with that bag.

If you aren't sponsored, it doesn't matter one bit. Use the best piece of equipment for you, regardless of brand. I want new irons and woods soon, and the ones I'm looking at are adams and taylormade. I use a callaway driver and wilson wedges, putter, and hybrid. I don't care if they match. I wear nike shoes, normally with adidas or champion socks and a calloway glove.

I use Callaway irons, TM Driver, Maxfli fairway woods, Cleveland wedge and a Callaway bag.
So yeah it doesn't matter what you have as far as equipment etc.. unless of course you ever get a sponsor which I'll never have that problem.

Playing 18 tomorrow morning. Haven't played in about 3 weeks, so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully the driving range is open early so I can hit some balls before I hit the course.

                        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

My last time out had the best putting day I've ever had. I started putting more weight on my front foot when I putt a few rounds back, and I've been getting tremendous results. Only 32 putts over 18 the other day. A 5 hole stretch with only 6 putts. I'll take it. My score wasn't all that great, but I was trying a lot of new things just to work on stuff (tinkering with my drive, hitting flop shots where they aren't really necessary to keep getting a better feel for them, etc).

I have a Titleist bag filled with Taylor Made woods and irons and an Odyssey putter. I don't think I've ever cared enough to look at my or anyone else's bag that closely. Hell, I didn't even pick the bag I use right now, it was a Christmas gift.

If someone gave me crap for not having matching stuff, I'd probably just laugh at them and walk away.

If you have all matching equipment and clothes, you better be a professional or really good.

You would look like a giant tool if you rolled up with your Nike bag, clubs, ball, hat, shirt and shoes and shot 110.

Definitely don't let the brand slow you down. I carry:

Adams drivers (yes I have a two...my gamer and then the one for high wind days as it flights the ball a lot lower)
                                Callaway 3 wood
Adams 5 wood or Cobra 3H (depends on weather/wind conditions)
                                Cleveland TA 2 irons
Callaway Mac Daddy wedges (just switched from Cleveland TA 900's)
                                Scotty Cameron putter
Srixon (yellow) or Taylormade (white) golf balls (more yellow these days as i'm having a harder time following the white ball against the clouds and the dead brown grass of Texas.
