    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I havn't played in three years, but I really want to play this year. I went to the Range twice, but I had to go to the dome so I can't figure out if I still have the same problem driving. When ever I used my driver or 3 wood at the end of my shot the ball would slice. Actually, I don't even think I can call it a slice. MY shot would go straight for maybe 125 yards then would turn and go directly sideways. I lost about 50 yards on each shot.

I've talked to the pro and they helped change my grip, which stops it sometimes, but once and awhile it still hapens.

Oh and like a lot of people I can't putt. I can get on the green in 3 shots on a par 4 or 4 on a par 5, but then I putt 3-4 times and ruin the hole. I know if I could putt I would shoot 80-89, but now I shot 95-105. Only once in my life I have ever putt good. I pared the first three holes (Par 4, Par 3, Par 5). This included a 25+ foot put from the fringe (It would have gone past the hole, but I kept the flag in).

Man, just talking about this makes me want to play.

Jack, man I used to have the same troubles as you. Still, when I'm not focused, my bad drive is that straight then slice.

Keep seeing your pro - maybe even post your swing somewhere, even here if you'd like. I'm a Mike Austin swinger (google him, he holds the guiness world record for longest drive of 515 yards) - so slicing the ball now isn't a problem - and distance for a 5'7 guy like myself is unheard of (four 290+ yard drives this morning).

The key with the golf swing is 90% set up. Is your head behind the ball at address - if not - at address, just kick your right knee in (assuming you're a righty) and let your left hip move slightly left - not much - but enough to feel like when you look up - you are looking sideways at your target.

Last part of address that has changed everything for me - is I uncock my wrists completely at address - and glue my left arm to my left chest. Now, instead of just reaching over with my right hand - I perform that right knee kick in - and left hip move so my right arm is underneath and I grab the club from there.

Good luck next round - hit the range - and try what I mentioned. You'll hit some hooks to draws for a bit - but eventually it'll straighten out, and the slice will disappear.

As for the putter, I've got the Heater III - and it feels identical to the Taylormade one. The head is heavy and keeps my stroke on point. I like the view from the top of the 3 lines that help me align my putts too.

It looks just like the Taylor Made one that is in play now. I just cant use a mallet putter. I used to have a Odessy 2-ball putter but never felt confident. I switched to a Taylor Made Roosa blade 2 years ago and equipped it with an oversize putting grip and have felt more confident. I also tried a friend of mines Scotty Cameron (newport 2) and loved the feel of that one. That is what lead me to try GigAgolf's milled putter. For $25 it was hard to say know. Have you tried or know anyone that has tried the TRX Ti Driver?

I switched to the Mallet after stints with blades - most recently the Medicus overspin and it just never felt solid. As far as the TRX Ti - no I haven't any experience with it, it has some good reviews on gigagolf and other spots. Of course that's the tough part about buying from gigagolf is that the reviews are hard to find that aren't on the website.

I will say I have "purchased' (sent my family my wishlist for my bday) the following :

          Z4 Ti Driver - 2012 edition

They are doing a special for ProLaunch-Red/Blue shafts right now for free with the purchase of a driver or wood. Can't beat it.

          I also am getting the C9 c455 3wood and 5 wood:

Also part of the ProLaunch shaft special. Btw, I've hit the C9 and if you want to keep your driver in the bag - you can with these. I absolutely bomb this club, it's not the prettiest as far as colors in my opinion - but man, does it fly.

Played today and it was hot as heck outside. Shot 78 with a 10 on a par 5. I Tin Cupped it 3 times before cooler heads prevailed. If I take a bogey there instead of a quint, I shoot 73. We had a good laugh over it at least.

Wow - nice score for what it's worth, man. I am a terrible heat player - and a bad fair weather golfer. I play a lot better in the cold and crappy weather to be honest.

I snuck in 9 today, shot even 36 before I called it a day. Despite the wind, I didn't have any crazy up and downs. It was honestly a very boring round of golf - tee to fairway to green - left putts short, but short enough for par.

Tempting to take the day off tommorrow for bday present - ah not worth it

I'm usually pretty good in heat, but perhaps I'm not as young as I used to be.

Gonna get in another round this next weekend if the weather cooperates. Maybe I'll go the conservative route and stop trying to pull off the hero shot.

I played yesterday (13 holes). Course was pretty wet but was still nice to be playing golf in March. Played how I would expect. Some good/some bad shots. Was very proud of 2 shots that I hit which made my day!

Where do you live? Every course up here stays open year round.

I went out and played (poorly) today. Still getting the hang of the new putter I bought - it was only my second round with it. Got a lot better on the back 9. Overall, though, considering it was only the third time I've played this year, not too bad.

                          1. I have a really bad slice with my driver
                          2. Being a smaller guy, my swing speed/distance is below average with all clubs
                          3. Not able to consistently get my iron shots as high in the air as they should be
                          4. Long irons in general
                          5. Fat shots...a lot of them
                          6. Can't get my drives in the air (I have a 13* so this shouldn't be a problem)

Spend some time on the range and record your swings. Great way to see what your swing flaws are. I've started doing this and it's a great learning tool.

As for the height and long irons...HYBRIDS. That will help in getting the ball in the air and gets rid of your long irons. They are easier to hit and they fly higher.

I'm a short guy too, only stand 5'7,190. I am out of shape, but can hit long shots every since I switched away from the conventional method of swinging the club. some of you may have heard of it, but of not, the method I use is the Mike Austin method. Plenty of controversy in the swing concept, but there are none when you can stripe the ball in the 270 280 range on the fly. I am driving greens too, it is just crazy. Anyway do a google search for mike austin, he holds the world record for longest drive in competition of 515 yards at the ripe age of 64.

There are a lot of haters of the method, but at the end of the day, it didn't matter to me. I found out from my instructor that I am missing some power, and with more tweaks my distance will increase. Crazy.
