    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

After a really frustrating winter where I just completely lost any semblance of a decent swing and started questioning why I'm even playing golf, I'm finally starting to feel good about it. Probably the best I've felt since I began learning to play golf last May. I'm definitely finding the joy in it again.

Been putting in a lot of work at the range and getting lessons from a new instructor. Things are really clicking pretty well. Now just have to see if it translates onto the course. Playing two rounds this weekend, so we'll see how it goes. But even at the range I've never hit it as consistently as I have for the past two weeks. My misses have been falling short rather than slicing or hooking uncontrollably. Really excited to get onto the course.

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

finally did it! Broke 100 for the first time since I started learning to golf last May!

Had a very frustrating round yesterday. Playing a relatively easy muni course (only 5800 yards, 113 slope), I thought I was on my way after I shot a 47 on the front 9. Then I shot a 56 on the back with three big blowup holes, and was pretty upset the whole day.

Then I played a nicer but more difficult course today, and not only broke 100, but shot a 94! The exciting/disappointing thing about today's round is that my putting was beyond horrendous. 46 putts. If I could have putt even decently, I could've even broken 90 today. So it's pretty dang clear where I'm going to have to focus my time on: both putting as well as getting my approach shot closer so that I don't have as many crazy 20-30 foot putts to deal with.

After getting so frustrated and upset with myself over the past 7-8 months, this payoff feels so damn worth it. Finally feeling like all the work and practice I've been putting in has paid off.

Now the goal is to keep it in the 90's consistently, improve my putting and go for breaking 90!

Congrats, thaima1shu! I remember the first time I broke 100 last year. Such a great feeling. Enjoy it!

Going out tomorrow. My friend is the head pro at Compas Pointe (http://www.compasspointegolf.com/) and is taking us out for free. The offer was for 36 but wife is only letting me play 18. Gonna work on making sure I get my lead shoulder all the way through on the swing, been stopping it at impact and just swinging my hips leading to slices. Either way free golf at a nice course can't argue with that.

It took me about a week to realize what you meant. (havent turned on the golf channel in a while) Ha yea I already do that to an extent... But I just learned that the real problem with my swing was that 1. I needed to strengthen my grip so that i hold off the release of the clubhead just a tad longer and 2. That I was standing too far away from the ball on my driver/long irons. That was causing a large hook.

Now (after a short range session) I'm hitting a decent push-draw and still feel comfortable trying to work the ball both ways. My new to-do list includes regaining my touch around the greens (my trip to Florida really screwed that up) and continuing to improve my ball striking (fewer thin/fat mis-hits)

          Keep it up!
As you can see, your most important shots usually occur around the green (or at least inside of 50 yards). Those shots take a certain finesse that can only be mastered through repetition. Same goes with 20+ foot putts. Just keep working inside 50 yards and on/around the greens and that 94 can turn into an 84 with ease.

Also I learned today that finding your ball (in play) off of the tee is important in shooting lower scores. Who would've known?

Havent figured out how to export this video yet, but working to not make my swing so flat. Its awful (I just found out)

But as im working on it, ive noticed the ball flight ive been looking for a few times... especially on my mid and short irons. Heres my round from today. I lost almost all of my irons right. But half of them were just barely off of the fairway

Need to make this new-ish swing feel more natural. But I can tell this is a change for the better

Was looking into getting a new stiff driver shaft. Was in Golf Galaxy talking to them about it and pricing some option. Most shafts were in the $175-$200 range. So I thought about just buying another R1 with a stiff shaft but those were no longer $179. As I was walking around I stumbled on this beauty. Pulled the trigger instantly. For a few more bucks than just a shaft I get a new driver!

Man when they announced that thing, I almost thought about getting it. Until I realized I still can't hit drivers. But it's such a damn good looking driver. Let me know how you end up liking it!

Forgot to mention the best part it was only $199 and I had $30 in discounts. I will let you know how we get along as my driver this spring was arguably my best club.

Oh wow, it's already discounted? Didn't it just get released? That's a sweet deal.

Shot a 40 today at Eagle Eye on the front 9. It was straight out of work with no warming up so im really happy with that. Also that includes 2 three-putts. Ugh.

Hit some damn good shots though

Slowly my swing change is giving me much better shots. Still doesn't feel quite right, but i know when i mess up and get way too flat. Also my short game is starting to come around... I can tell because i got a Pinnacle gold to check up real nice for me on a 20 yard pitch shot lol. Those things are like rocks!

Shot a 75 my first round of the year the other day. Hit the fairway 7 out of 7 holes on the back 9. I was pretty excited about that. The other two were par 3s of course.

Played my first 9 in a year a couple weeks ago. My first drive was probably my best feeling swing ever. 345 right down the middle. I then hit my half swing approach over the green & OB. Got a 7 and shot a 45.

Played my second 9 last night. My Dad worked with me on my chipping for about 15 minutes and it was like night & day. I fell apart on the last 3 holes & went bogey, bogey, bogey. But I shot a 39. Not bad. I think if I work on it this year I can get my handicap below 5.

Going out tomorrow. My gamegolf device stopped holding a charge. I contacted them last week and by Thursday of this week I had a new device. Looking forward to tomorrow made a slight change in my swing that had me hitting more inside-out.
