    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Went out and played again yesterday, shooting an 80.

When I played Monday (79), my putting really saved me. Yesterday, it was my downfall. Way too many 3 putts.

On a really positive note, my ball striking with my irons is getting as great as it's ever been (if not better).

I used my driver on all but one tee shot (excluding the par 3's, obviously), and I managed to hit 14 of 16 fairways. That's remarkable for me, especially considering I used my driver on almost every hole.

I also hit 12 of 18 greens in regulation. So, I was doing everything right. I just couldn't get my putting down. I had a few putts where I just completely misread the break, and would start the ball to the wrong side of the cup.

Hoping to get back out there today, Thursday, and Friday. It's been a LONG time since I've been able to play several rounds of golf in a week. And I like the way my swing is feeling. I hate to just waste it.

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I played 54 holes on Friday and Saturday. That was as much as I have played on my new hip but I felt no ill effects. My swing is kinda jacked up right now and I've lost some distance, but I think with warmer temps and the fairways getting back in better shape that I will back to normal in a month or two. I'm shooting in the mid 80's even with those problems.

I bet my swing speed is that of an old man. I think I've measured it before and it was all I could do to get it to 90mph. I guess I would describe my game as more of a finesse type of game, lol.

No, lol. What I should have said was me and my buddies were somewhere where they were measuring swing speed and we were just swinging as hard as we could to see how fast we could swing it. The fastest I got was about 90, but that was swinging as hard as I could with no control and pulling muscles. I wasn't trying to hit a ball in any certain direction. I would imagine my normal swing speed is much slower. Regular flex shafts are what I have been recommended, but I would guess my swing speed is not very fast. I'm short and until I had this hip replacement I was not able to make a very full turn. I'm still trying to figure out what my body can do now with my golf swing.

It amazes me how the pros swing 120+ and hit amazingly, I feel like I Swing hard and barely top 95 MPH lol

Played with my dad, my uncle and my sister's fiance the day before Easter. The course we played had GPS-enabled screens in the carts... never had seen that before.

Came within an inch or two of my first ever eagle. Hit probably my best drive ever, then followed it up with my best approach shot ever from about 125 out. Landed a few feet short of hole, rolled and skirted around the edge of the hole, and ended up a few inches away. I would have died if that would have went in.

I'm slowly starting to correct my bad slices off the tee. Hit quite a few straight drives, which hardly ever happens.

Well, you see... when you try to swing hard, your muscles tighten up. Tight muscles move slower than loose muscles. Which is why your furthest drives tend to be when you swing the most freely and aren't concerned with distance.

Both courses that I regularly play (the courses I worked at for 2 years) have those. I think they've spoiled me! I used to always play a course that didn't have them, and I got really good at reading my distance based on where the red, white, and blue stakes are on the fairways. But once I started playing at these two courses, it was amazing.

I'm to the point now where if I play somewhere without them, I really miss it. The in-cart GPS is a luxury that I'm so glad I get to use all the time.

Change of topic - I played again today (third straight day). However, I went by myself Monday and yesterday. Today, my girlfriend wanted to come play with me (her second time EVER playing. First time with me). Also, a former co-worker had just gotten off work and wanted to join us, so I let him.

I shot an 89, after shooting 79 and 80 the past two days. My rhythm was SO off compared the past two days. Between having to wait for my girlfriend, focusing more on her game than on my own, and also just having to wait longer in between shots...it killed my rhythm. I struggled all day. I'd hit a great shot, then have to wait for 5 minutes to hit again.

Not sure I can play with my girlfriend very often. haha. I don't have the patience for that.

Well my new clubs are supposed to arrive today. After class, going to swing by and pick them up and hit the golf course (wish they came yesterday so I could hit the range!)

Speaking of gps in carts... The course I play at has like a mini touchscreen tv inside with the GPS. You can keep your scorecard on it then email it. You can even freaking order food off of it LOL

One of the best features is it shows the carts ahead of you so you know when they are out of the way or on the green.

But maybe just take her to the range and to the putting green for a while. Then when she does go play with you, she can keep up at least (this is what im trying to do with my gf this summer).
She's played, but she has ZERO touch/feel on and around the green, which saddens me because i like to think im above average around the green

Got the new clubs. Absolutely loved the JPX Fli Hi 4 iron. Even when I mi**** it, it went far. Sadly I didn't get a chance to swing them before the round so I am still getting used to them but even with the mi****s, they were straight and still went pretty far.

Ended up with an 89 but mainly due to pitches and chips. Could not dial in my power with them and either was really short or way past. Rarely had more than 2 putts so if I was closer, could've shot a lot better.

Driving range tomorrow should help get used to them a littl more.

                            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

All I have to say about swing speed is be careful how its measured. Most places only judge the swing speed basically by the 6 inches before impact and the 6 inches after impact. Therefore its mainly measuring the speed of your wrists accelerating through the shot.

If you cast your club which is unhinging the wrists while the club is at the top of the swing, your swing speed is going to be really low, probably in the low to mid 80's regardless of how fast you think you are swinging. So if you went in for a fitting, you would get fitted with a regular shaft based on the swing speed.

As someone to analyze your swing first. If they say you are casting, work on some excercises and practice getting some lag in your swing. Then get fitted for the club because getting lag in your swing is basically the key for getting high swing speeds and distance.

This is why the pro players look like they have such a smooth swing. They aren't swinging their arms faster, they are keeping the wrist cocked to the very last second and then releasing them and accelerating through the ball with a really fast swing speed.

I was getting ready to go spend about $15 on some then I realized that Lowes Makes driveway rods that are the same exact thing. $4 for two of them. Check them out if you decide to get some.
