First one was a driver that I played a nice cut for into a tight dog leg right fairway. Was nice to visualize the shot and then shape it exactly like you wanted to.

Second one was a 3I from about 220 that I hit to about 3 ft on a par 5. Hello early eagle!!

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

It was the nicest day so far this year today, so I went out and played 18. Only shot a 108, but that's 7 strokes better than Wednesday's round, and includes a 10 on a Par 5, so I'll take it. My driving was bad, but I started to putt better, and my distance control with my wedges was coming back (I'm normally very good with my wedges, but had lost the feel for it during my golf lay off). My irons started to hook the last 5 holes or so, but were great before that. Overall, not bad at all. This is my 3rd season playing, and I'm really hoping to break 100 before too long. If I can fix my drive (I used to drive longer, but I've lost a lot of distance it feels like) and continue to improve my putting (I just got a new putter, and am working hard on not being too aggressive and putting the ball 6 ft past the whole regularly) I think I can get there pretty quick.

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Got out today, and played really well. Was sitting at 84 with three holes to play, one of which was a par 3. Since I've never broken 100, that's pretty good. But then I choked, took 8 putts on the last three holes, and carded two double bogeys and a triple bogey and ended up with a 102. Also took a 9 on a par 5 on the front 9. Nonetheless, I hit the ball really well today, and it's still very early in the season. And my putting is improving very quickly, and my wedge play is swinging into gear. If I can find a way to drive the ball like I know I can consistently, breaking 100 will be easy, and I'll be looking at 90.

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played a miserable round of golf yesterday. I'm a 6.1 handicap and generally am in the 75-80 range. I shot 87 yesterday. Windy day but I can't even blame the wind for my issues. I normally am decent off the tee, pretty solid iron player and good short game. Yesterday I took 5 penalty strokes (all off the tee) in the first 9 holes, and still shot a 42. My iron play was solid, but not great and my short game was good until the last two holes. I tried to play a miracle flop on 17 over a trap to a tucked pin and came up short and buried in the trap. Blasted out, 2 putted for double. Then on 18 hit a good drive (finally), iron that went long as I misjudged the wind (shortsided again) and couldnt get up and down.

Lots to figure out, but I'll be back at it next weekend. Hopefully with better results.

              Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Hey everyone, I'm new to the golf forums here and just wanted to possibly seek some advice. I have been golfing for years, and I went out on the range yesterday and was hitting around 150 with my driver. I'm 5'6 and about to graduate from high school so I know I might grow a little more but I don't really think that will improve my power all that much. It might be my backswing that is causing less power because it is a bit slower, but I think it helps my control. So does anybody have any ideas? or is it just going to come from practice?
              Thanks

First off you don't need to be big to hit nice drives.
Good swing plane, squared up at impact and SWINGING the club will get you there.
Too many people swing slower than they can because they have been told to "slow down the swing" BS.

A couple points (best to get with a pro or good teacher at least to get the best help):
Grip: I personally use a slightly strong LH grip (Seeing 3 knuckles on left hand)

Make sure you are getting a good rotation and full backswing. Lots of people do not take the club all the way back, either thinking they are or afraid to.
Next is working on getting a good swing plane and not coming "Over the top". Rotating hips too soon will cause an over the top swing which usually result in a slice. Hips should shift forward which helps put the hands in a good location ("in the slot").

                Lastly SWING THE CLUB.. lol
When I started swinging like I could (but not all stiff and tight) and getting hands rotated to get club head square I was 100x's better and lots farther.

Again I'm no "pro" by any means but hope this helps some.
Also makes sure your clubs "fit" you. (Not too long or short etc...) Some don't think that's important but I would disagree.

Check and see if you can get with a pro etc... and just have fun.

Just received my C510 Forged irons from GigaGolf. I also got one of the golf bags (free because my total order was over $300) and a milled putter.

Putted around the rug a bit. Putter has a nice feel to it. Feels a little bit heavier than my Taylor Made Roosa.

The weather was not great here today in Mass. and since the clubs didn't get here til 630pm I was unable to hit them. Hopefully the weather is nice this week so I can get swinging.

I was looking forward to going out after work but the Fargo, ND winds are rediculous. I'm looking at getting new TaylorMade 2.0 Burner irons in the near future(about a week).

Well... it's starting to get cold again here after a week of awesome weather. It was in the 70s and 80s most of last week here, but I only managed to get out twice. Shot a 77 on the easier of the two courses here at State, and then shot my best round since HS on the harder West course here (a 74). I was Even until I hit a heavy 4-iron into the pond in front of the 18th green going for the GUR and then lipped out twice. Yep, I always choke.

I'm quite the inconsistent golfer so I hope I don't lose my game with this time off due to the weather.

Awesome man - can't wait to hear how your next range session goes. I'm considering selling my Titleist ZMs bc I want everything gigagolf. I have those wedges, putter - now just want the bag, 3-PW and woods, hybrid and driver.

                                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Went out yesterday at the course I now work at, and what a rough front 9.

It was a very impromptu outing. I was enjoying my day off hanging out at this girl's house, and my buddy called when he got off work and asked if I wanted to play 18 with him and our course pro, so I headed over there. The problem - while I did have my clubs in my car, I didn't have shoes, so I had to play in flip flops, and I didn't have my glove, so after about 8 holes, my hand was getting ravaged.

I managed to scramble around on the front, and shoot a 47, but it wasn't pretty; I was saved by some solid chips.

The pro was trying to help me a little with an apparently bad habit I have, but have never had "diagnosed". I had asked him about how he hits these low risers, whereas my ball just goes way up in the air. Turns out, I dip my back shoulder pretty drastically in my down swing. He tried to offer a few tips, but it was tough to adjust on the fly.

He left after the front 9, and my buddy and I made the turn. I was little looser (I had been playing a little uptight with the pro), and ended up shooting a 43 on the front, to finish at 90, but man, it was a rough day.

Do you guys have any advice or tips on the shoulder dipping thing? I seem to lose a lot of distance because of it. Rather than having the ball gradually rise when I hit it, it pops straight up, and gets no roll when it lands. I still drive the ball as far as most guys I play with, but this just tells me how much further I could be hitting the ball. It also explains my loss in yardage over the past year or so; I assume I hadn't been doing this for too long because the loss in yardage is fairly recent, and I hadn't ever had anyone bring it up before.
