I have come to the realization that I am no longer good at golf. Last 2 rounds in the low 90's, and I have this terrible pull hook that I can't get rid of. Uggh.

Join the club. I was playing so well about 3 weeks ago, shot scores in the mid 70's. Last night I shot an 89. I'm not sure what the problem is. Mainly just missing greens and wasting a shot on every single hole. It didn't help that I lipped out 10 putts. Literally 10 putts hit the hole and didn't go in. Hopefully it just wasn't my night and it will be better today.

Can't wait to get some new irons and hybrids. I'll let you guys know what I decide to purchase in the next couple weeks. Leaning towards Titlest AP1 irons, but not totally sure.

Ap1s are really nice. I've never hit them though. I'm dropping my 1 month old set of TM Burners (09s) for some Mizuno combo set MP33-MP30s that should be here on Tuesday. They are blades, and I'm excited to step my game up and become more of a shotmaker.

If you have the funds, MIZUNO is one of the nicest and buttery smooth feeling clubs you will ever strike.

Ok, played Saturday, shot an 88. Awful day. Played Sunday and shot a 78. I didn't do anything different with my approach other than try not to "force" things. I just tried to stay smooth with my swing and not try to hit the ball too hard.

Drives were great all day, hit hybrids and approach irons pretty good but not awesome, chipped much better and putts began to fall. I was only 2 over after 11 holes and then somebody showed up and began following our group around and it kind of distracted me (you would have to know this guy). He followed us for 3 holes and bogeyed all 3. Then held on with only one more bogey. One day totally changed the outlook on my game and I can't wait to get back out there on Tuesday because I feel like I'm back on top of my game.

Does anybody here own the Odyssey White Ice #9 putter? If so, how are you guys liking it?

I've been considering purchasing it, just needed to know how people liked it.

Hey guys was just looking through the thread, figured I'd start posting my golfing problems, questions, and frustrations here too. Just started golfing last year had a set of hand me downs. Went out maybe 10 times. I'm only 25 now so just getting into the game now that I'm living the "Adult Life". Went and bought a new set of beginner clubs on Monday. Set of Walter Hagen XLR's from Dick's for $200. I looked at the reviews I guess there okay. So anyways went out Monday and just shoot horrible. Alot of slices and getting on top on the ball with the irons and my putting wow... horrible! First round for the year...

but hey its work in progress... any tips or pointers for beginners new to the game. Don't even know what my handicap is yet but I'm going to start keeping track to find out.

the best tip i can provide beginners is this: your swing is all about your body core or imaginary line. to explain in words is hard but I will try my best. obv the most important aspect is your setup. you need to setup properly over the ball. setups vary and players have their own unique setup so you need to find something that is comfortable but yet proper. look online for proper setup. then your swing is all about your body core like i mentioned earlier which is basically this: during your setup, if you draw an imaginery line down the center of the inside of your body from head to toe and really focus on never shifting or moving away from the line....you are ahead of schedule. beginners have so much movement in their body during their swing. they either dip their heads or fade their body backwards during their downswing, etc, etc, etc. the more QUIET your body is, the better. focus on swinging the handle of the club and not the club face, swing it around your body without shifting away from your imaginary line. your belly button shud basically always be where the handle of the club is....and do this without shifting away from your imaginary line. so during your backswing, your swinging your hips back with your stomach or belly button going backwards along with the club handle. then during your downswing, your belly button shud be in sync with the club moving around towards the target with a sweeping motion. again, doing this while staying quiet. the best suggestion is to work on your swing without a club, really. get a nice stance going, where your not hunched over. i see too may first time players hunched over the ball with their back arching. stances should be solid as if your sitting on a piece of cushion under your butt. your back nice and firm. posture/stance/setup is everything and i really cant stress it enough. from there, its all about having a nice sweeping motion around that imaginary line inside your body's core. If i can find some websites showing this, I will certainly try to find it.

I hope I didnt ramble too much and gave your some useful info. If i didnt, I apologize for wasting space on the forum lol.

                    good luck!

                      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Global hit on a lot of what I'd say.

You're 25, and you've only been playing a year. The first I'd say is to get another set of clubs or get your walter hagens fitted to you. That is NUMBER ONE. If you are happy with the hagens, then fine - but if you want more game improvement irons for a good price, I have mentioned gigagolf.com on here - you will spend less for the Hagens for a high quality set (C9s are the best I hear).

SECOND: Coming from someone who has tried 20 different golf methods since picking this game up 'seriously' 7 years ago; I recommend taking instruction from someone who is a PGA Pro OR someone who is TGM (the golfing machine) certified in your area.

The reason I mention TGM is because I believe this is the best way to learn the game and how to PURELY strike the ball. PGA pros have a tendency to allow you to get away with picking the ball off with no forward shaft lean - this will make your iron distance inconsistent. TGM focuses on the biomechanics and breeds a whole bunch more consistency of getting the forward shaft lean (hands ahead) in order to strike down on the ball first, then ground on irons.

THIRD: If you want to enjoy the game, you will want to play well. Start chipping and putting. This will be hard, but dedicate yourself to 3 weeks of nothing but chipping, putting and pitching. After that 3 weeks of pitching, half swings, chipping, putting. After that 3 weeks of chipping, putting, full swing, lob shots and bunkers. The last 3 weeks will be back to chipping and putting - with full swings. However, on the full swing - play the course in mind at the driving range.

I play the course at the driving range all the time. Even bring a scorecard with me. It's very fun, especially with a friend.

FOURTH: Read one book. "Every Shot Must Have a Purpose". I'm on my second time of reading this and the second time around is just blowing my mind for what I had missed before.

There ya go. For TGM instructors, if you want to find someone online, look no further than the man himself, Brian Manzella. He puts TGM in the most easiest terms and his web video, "Building Blocks" and "Confessions from a former flipper" are the ABSOLUTE best I have ever tried (20 methods I've tried remember).

                      Good luck man!

                        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

So I had my first official lesson a couple of weeks ago with a PGA Certified guy. He made a couple of small changes to my set up and one swing change which I thought was fairly major. I played around with it for about 30 minutes after the lesson, then again at the range. I didn't really feel comfortable with it much, so I ended up ditching the swing change, but keeping the set up changes before my round.

Ended up striking the ball beautifully with my irons, the best I've hit them in a couple of years. Unfortunately it was a bit windy and I struggled judging it and I couldn't putt to save my life, but my approach shots had me all around the green all day and my chipping was really good. Ended up shooting a 90 with 4 three putts and only 4 one putts the entire round. I didn't have time to putt before the round so I just didn't have any feel and wasn't hitting the ball on my line very often.

It was definitely a fun round though because I hit the ball so well from tee to green. I have a feeling this is going to be a good season for me where I finally break 80 and find some more consistency.

EDIT: I'll also echo some others' who have talked about the mental aspect of the game. Considering my background in sport psychology, I do feel as though I have a bit of expertise in this area. The main pointer that I will give is to have 100% conviction in every shot that you take. If you don't believe 100% that you are taking the right shot and can hit that shot, it is likely that you won't hit it well. It sounds simple but it definitely takes some work. Golf is easily the toughest game mentally that I have ever played, but it's also one of the most rewarding when you play it as well as you can.

                          Well there's hope....
I've simply dead on with irons still and am very happy with that...
                          THE DRIVER:
So as i've posted , the driver is the only club i've been very inconsistant with.
So the past 2 days I've been working with it.
Push right, hook left but no slicing at all so that part I was happy.
Then I got to tinkering and after a few things I think I struck paydirt.
I closed my stance just a bit dropping my back foot about 6-8 inches.
Proceeded to hit the. Ext 5 dead nuts down the middle.
I stopped and bit a few irons working on distance control.
After about 10 balls I went back to driver.
Hit 2 dead on again. (i went to irons just to see if I could go back to driver after a while and still be ok)
So I went back to irons and practiced some pitches and chipping.
Then back to driver and hit 2 dead on...
I did this the remainder of session and saved 1 ball to hit last with driver.
                          Dead on.

Taking it to course tomorrow and am pretty excited.
                          Hope I get sleep lol

1 simple stance change and I have a whole new attitude...
                          We'll see.

Not sure what you want to spend...
                              I prefer Taylor Made woods.

The Superfast 2.0 got great reviews (i use the 3W and rescue and the ball just jumps off them!) for accuracy and distance.
                              Believe it's 199.99 now.
It's what I would get if my R7 was out of commission.
