    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

    Well I was thoroughly disappointed.
Drives were ok and irons for the most part but accuracy for irons was waaaay out there.

My story and you can times it by about 12 holes:
Good drive... sitting 150 or closer.... next shot right or left or short.... pitch on... 3 FREAKING PUTT or the picth rolls off or checks up too much..!!!

It's so frustrating when you are so close to getting all facets together and one little thing or another screws me up...

Shot a 48 today! No three putts and everything was as good as I can currently do! What a feeling! I was shooting 60s on this nine last year and now not higher than a 56 in five rounds at the course!
The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!

Went out yesterday, and was only able to play 9, but shot a 42. My drives weren't so much slicing, as they were just fading...too much. All of them hit the fairway, but wound up kicking off to the side.

Short game was great. Putting was great. Iron game was solid. My fairway wood (I only use one) has really been hurting me. I used to make solid contact, and hit it straight every time with the fairway wood, but lately, it's been slicing, which is killing me on par 5s.

Going out Friday and can't wait...
After a nice session at range.. I "think" I finally had a break through moment.
Hitting the range again Wednesday to see it what I "learned" carries over a few days.

I'm a idiot sometime as always trying new things because "I can always get better"
So the last 2 times out I went away from my normal iron swing to a more "traditional" swing. Lost most consistancy but still was ok.
I went back to a hybrid of the stack and tilt and was MUCH better.
However the ah ha moment came with my driver.
I was surviving by hitting most fairways but not great distance as I never felt confident enough to let er rip.

After "rebooting" myself and going back through some old lessons/vids I realized some things I was doing that right from the start was seting me up to fail.
Went to range and worked on it and was hitting the driver 1000x's better.

So Wednesday I'm hoping to replicate it and then if I do, I'm really thinking I will shoot the best round so far in 2 years.
          We'll see but I'm pumped.

I've been able to get back on the course in the past week. I haven't really regressed from the fall, but I received some help from a friend that I was playing with. Basically he said that I was not putting faith in my swings and told me to finish all of my swings. It's amazing what a good follow through will do to a golf game. He said I was "unleashing the beast." Whatever the hell works, I've increased accuracy and I'm hitting the ball square. I only had one topped shot, and that was with me standing about an inch and a half above the ball on a slope.

              Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I've come to the conclusion that using a driver isn't in my future.

I've tried everything to get consistant with it and I really think it's all mental at this point.
I can hit my 3W (wich is only 1" shorter than the Driver) and hit fairway 18 out of 20 times.
Grab the driver and even though I don't "slice" now I either hook it (Probably closing hands too fast or ball position) or I hit a push dead right (no fade just dead right about 10-15 yards off center). Of course I get th occasional dead niuts shot that makes me want to keep it but with no confidence I can't take to course any longer, for now.

I've choked up and tried multiple things trying to get the right formula and I have ZERO confidence in it.
I think I'll just have to be satisfied with being in fairway and a tad shorter.

                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Ok went to range today and it's official. No more driver.

I play a "game" where I bring a scorecard from a course and "play it"
I hit driver and take distance and see what I have left then pick appropriate irone (or wood) and go from there.

In the first 18 holes I hit fairway with my 3W 10 out of 13 times. My "fairway" is roughly 25 yards wide in between some steaks in range.
My average distance was 230-235. I can certainly live with that. Yeah when I hit my driver right it's roughly 260-270+ so I'm losing 30'ish yards BUT I'm in play.
I'm positive I'll have tons more fun playing in the short grass more often.
At this point using a driver for me is just an ego thing....
Ego won't lower my score... lol

Am I doing the right thing at this point?
I mean I'll continue working on my driver here and there but this Friday will be the real deciding factor. My driver is out of the bag and I substituted it with a wedge.

Had the round from hell today. 64 on 9 holes.

                  Pros
Hit my 6 iron fairly well
Started to putt well as the round went on

                  Cons
Everything I thought I had fixed at the range was not fixed
                  Hit 0 good tee shots
Went back to hitting most everything fat
Couldn't hit my driver or hybrids
                  Couldn't chip
                  Couldn't do anything

Skyboxer how high do you tee it up with the driver? Maybe try teeing it lower, choke down on it a few inches, play the ball back a bit in your stance and just try to hit like you would hit your 3 wood. Change it up a bit with the driver, it may be something simple to straighten it out.

                      All the above. lol
I've tried many combinations. I had my driver cut down in length a year ago so it almost 3W length which is weird as I hit 3W great.
That's why I think it's mental. Heading out in about an hour to a range session so we'll see...

So much of golf is mental. If you think you don't hit a particular club well, then the majority of times you won't. I constantly remind myself during a round that I hit this type of shot all the time and that I hit it well.

It's amazing how many times you stand over a ball and just have a feeling that you are going to hook it or slice it and then guess what...you do that. I've tried to get in the habit of thinking positive thoughts over the ball and visualizing exactly what I think it will do. I definitely think it helps a lot.

Agree. Which is why I'm thinking screw it and stick with 3w as I know I'll be in fairway so I am very comfortable swinging it.
