Not Impressed with TW at all

I picked up TW last night and played for a few hours. I have to say that I am not at all impressed with this game. All the reviews I have read say its a great game. My biggest concern was going to be that the game gets too easy.

I thought with the online component and a PGA Tour that it would still be worth a buy.

It does have a lot of features to keep you busy. However, I doubt if the game will keep my attention long enough to play them.

I played the heck out of Hot Shots 3 and still enjoy hitting a round. This game is nothing like Hot Shots. In fact Hot Shots seems much more realistic to me.

This is the first TW game that I have ever played. In my first 9 holes I eagled from 158 yards away and holed my first par 3. Its kind of hard to explain but it didnt feel like i did anything to make the shots. You just pull back on the stick and push it forward. It seems like the ball is on a predetermined path and will go where it wants.

The ball physics just seem wrong. In Hot Shots I felt like I was making the shots. Again, Its hard to explain but it just doesnt feel right in Tiger.

Putting is a miserable experience in my opinion. Once you are on the green they all look the same. Small and Flat. With the grid on you can see that the green does slope. Again in Hot Shots you can see the breaks even without the grid and the greens look a lot bigger.

The way you judge distance is very frustrating. Im sure part of it was me and I could get better but I 3 putted from 5 feet several times. Once again, even putts i made didnt have that i did it feel to them.

Went online to see the tournament feature. Sure enough the leader was in with a 45 or 46 i cant remember. At any rate a farce of a score for me. I dont want compete in tourneys with those kinds of scores even if i am shooting them.

If you are sitting on the fence about this game I really cant recommend it. Shots up to the green are really easy. Just pull back on the stick and push forward and down the middle you go. If you hit it in the rough it because you either hit to long or too short. I never hit one far left or right. On the green is really frustrating. Just not put together very well.

I have not learned all the shots so that could make the game better. Im just not sure that I even care to learn to put fades and draws on.

if you create a golfer he doesn't have as high stats, so it makes it tougher to do as well...won't solve the online stuff though. Also, take off the aids (grids and whatnot) and that should make it more interesting

I did create a golfer as well. Granted I didnt hit the eagle or hole in one with my created golfer.

Again, the biggest thing i can say is that it just doesnt feel like you are making the shots. I should have been excited about hitting a hole in one except it felt so fake. The shot hit the green like a wedge and then just started rolling to the pin. it was like the millenium falcon getting sucked into the death star.

whats up with the putting. how can you effectively judge distance. sometimes you need to put the cursor well back of the hole other times in front of the hole. i should not be 3 putting 5 footers.

The main thing with putting is looking at the heighth level if it is level I always hit atleast 1 foot farther than the whole. If does take some time to adjust to it.

Go to OPTIONS.... Add wind, remove grids. You will find a challenge in this game with a created golfer if you get rid of of the things that make it easy. By adding wind alone you will cut down on the fairways in regulation.

If you are playing it on the default settings there is no wind and I agree that even with a created golfer you can slap em down the fairway.

Another tip: And this is only if you truly want a challenge. Make your golfer someone who hits a fade or draw on every shot. You know similar to how most of the pros play. Then go out and hit it that way a whole round.

If you do not know what I am talking about, just go to the next level of tutorials and it should go into hitting a fad and a draw. I promise you this much, you will feel like you are the one making and/or missing the shots via the analog swing.

As far as putting that to me is way to easy with grids and caddy tips on. If you are three putting from 5ft and coming up short do what the guy above says.

As someone who finished everything in TW2003, I have to say that the game actually seems harder to me. Maybe it's because my attributes are at the bottom again, but the analog control feels a little looser, like I can actually hit shots offline now. I was playing bad last night. Again, maybe it's the attributes being low, but I enjoyed it. The wealth of options and modes in the game is great, and the real-time calendar is a fantastic addition. The ability to play tournaments on certain days of the year and win special unlockables (i.e. Haunted Polo shirt on Halloween) is too cool. I'll be playing this game for a long time.
