Maybe deeper game play is what lions meant. There is basically no career mode to be found.

I've been enormously critical of some of what we've seen/heard from EA so far.

But shouldn't we let the game release first before declaring things so definitively?

(when comparing the games I mean)

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions Thread

New 2K official course seems to have dropped today:

        "Finau Fresh Country Club"

Interesting name...and over 8,000 yards from the tips.

EDIT - from his Discord, it sounds like it was built by NextMaker VctryLnSprts at the request of Tony Finau, hence the name. One of Finau's requirements was that the back tees be over 8,000 yards...haha. VctryLnSprts did say the course is best played from the white tees, in terms of playability.

Well 30 fps and dial a distance was all I needed to hear. User controlled partial shots is one of the things that gives 2k23 so much staying power.

It's no surprise to me, I expected HB to have the better sim feeling, while EA will be king of arcade and career mode.

So far to me it seems that HB is still very much in the lead as the number 1 golf sim. Warts and all.
                Just simply a deeper game.
Now who could have ever expected that?!
The only thing that’s deeper on the 2K game vs EA is the pockets you needed to pay for it at release.

I think you actually may need to READ what I said.
I said “as it stands” and “appears to”.
What exactly is inaccurate or asinine in that statement?
                  I will double down.
30 courses ( might get as high as 50!.. not good enough )
Weather.. there is none. Not good enough
Putting…, partial shots.. not good enough and again, not good enough.
Now maybe they patch those in and actually add way more than 50 courses.
But!!…. AS IT STANDS, it would APPEAR that HB has nothing to worry about as far as EA Golf goes.

Yes, that is what I meant. I misspoke there.
Clearly the career mode is trash.

I would need to know that 2K is going to an annual release model with their game to even begin to go along with even. If they are skipping years, they have a lot to worry about.

From a gameplay standpoint 2K has massive issues, and it's "sim" rep is built on weak foundation. I think they get away with a lot of inconsistencies and broken mechanics by using the randomness of golf as a bit of a shield. I could easily see this EA game being more fun and realistic off the bat. But we shall see.

First off, golf games do NOT need to be annual releases
                        Secondly to your point

Switch out 2k for Ea in your first sentence for sure. Having the game tell you how far back you get to swing your club will never be sim.

I guess I don't understand why, or get the point, of crowning one game superior to the other. Play whichever game you like. Or if you're like me, play both because each will provide an experience that is not found in the other.

That's the beauty of having two golf games, is that the consumer can choose both, or the one that is most suited to provide the overall experience they are looking for in a golf game.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It's very important that we determine which one is best and make sure everyone agrees ... and then argue about it endlessly.

                            Very important

This paragraph holds a lot of weight in my opinion, 2K’s variables in tempo are purely a result of a poor engine pulling course & swing data from a chugging server. If you had a robot using a PS5 or Series X controller playing at a consistent analog tempo 7 days a week on the same course with the same conditions you’d yield different results Monday through Sunday. That’s not good gameplay mechanics it’s luck.
That said when you get to the green everything is spot on reading, cameras, roll out etc is all top notch.
