I must be the only one who thinks the graphics are more than acceptable. Remember that this game has to have a course designer. Unity is fine for now especially if it means no designer. Choosing between Unity and a lot of good courses or a new engine with limited courses a la EA I'll take Unity with current graphics.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
If switching to next-gen graphics means 2K having the same absolutely horrible face models and cartoonish player models that are in a EA's game, then no thank you please! Beautiful courses are welcome for sure, but holy moly if I upchuck every time my potato-body and putty-face player is shown onscreen, it kind of defeats the purpose of implementing a new engine.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
2K23's graphics are very acceptable. I can play 2K23 and enjoy it visually. But when I play EA's game, so much of it is an affront to my senses, the player faces in particular are just so awful. Same applies to the silly oversized clubs in EA's game, what is that about?Comment

The "same-ness" look and feel to everything in the HB/2K world has sort of run out of steam.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
2k23 needs more of a 3D look to the courses and textures, that's where EA's game shines. Is that possible without a whole new engine?Comment

To address the course creator...I am someone who has designed multiple courses dating back to the first The Golf Club game. The issue with the course designer now is that it has barely been updated since TGC1, with only a few new objects, assets, and tools having been introduced since 2014.
While there are still solid courses coming out, many of the "big-time" designers in the series are not building courses anymore, due to burnout, lack of interest, the number of crashes and bugs in 2K23's designer, or whatever other reason there may be.
In my own personal experience, I have released one new course in 2K23, after having done something like 10-12 in 2K21. It's not as enjoyable any more for me, because it's pretty much all the same as it's been since TGC1. It's gotten quite stale and I just don't have the motivation any more. I have one course sitting in my unpublished folder in the game, and I don't know if I'll ever touch it again. I just don't have the desire to do it.
What 2K/HB have to do, if they want the course creator to be the feature they use to differentiate themselves from EA, is actually put some effort and time into producing new assets, new backgrounds, new themes, and more accessibility to the designer to make it easier to get into for newer designers.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 04-13-2023, 03:06 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Brucie, would you link that article you mentioned? I’m a psychology professor and find that interesting—I’m sure some of my students would, too.
Glad to see some posting as things kind of died down here after the release of EA PGA Tour.
I agree with Beach; gameplay is #1, but for the amount of money I paid for a PS5 and the game itself, it’s a bit of a letdown when 2K23 looks like a PS4 game.
My last post was concerning the Eastside Golf hat and it still baffles me—could be wrong but I do think it was the only item available for women but not men. Why? I like what Eastside does; there are a ton of people with no connection to golf and it often gives them their first real exposure to the game. I wanted to get the hat but my golfer’s a man so nope.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Faces. I'm talking about faces. 2K23 has options to change all the various facial features. I created a perfect likeness of myself in 2K23, better than any sports game I've ever been able to. What does EA's game allow? The choice of 32 unbelievably ugly static face models, none of which look anything like me (I'm not unbelievably ugly is why). What's the word the Brits use? A shambles, yeah that's the ticket.Last edited by Brucie; 04-13-2023, 05:29 PM.Comment

FYI, I read an article a few years ago that described the psychological effect that cartoonish colour palettes have on certain groups of gamers. Young people up into their 20s are attracted to bright colours. The colour palette used in EA's game, and in all their games, is not realistic for a reason. 2K looks more true to life. IMO 2K25, if there is one, would not need a new engine, it would need the deeper modes and better presentation that EA's game has.
you got that right, 2K looks miles better with the golfers and realism of the color.Last edited by C.J.S.; 04-13-2023, 05:49 PM.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
2k's major property in the sports world is basketball. I don't see them spending major money updating the game engine if they can't even take the time to correct small details in the current game. Unity can look better it is a matter of finding the right artists to work on the game. Beach yep they need to update the designer this seems like the most cost effective thing they can do.
EA looks better in some respects but not all. Some of the courses look great some not as good as some say at least to my eye. Some of the trees look awful. Guess this is what happens when you have to design for the Series S.
Not going into the problems I see in EA's new game but I'll mention one. The putting has to be totally revamped head to toe. Oh and they need a whole lot more cameras. Looking at you Joe.
2k needs to find a way to get a real career mode in the game. While a fair number of designers haven't put out any courses this game we still have a lot that do. Boat load more than 30 courses.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
I enjoy so much about 2K23, but the swing timing has been pretty brutal for me. I’d say like 90% of my swings are slightly fast or slightly slow, but the 10% where it seemingly randomly hits Very Slow and the ball barely moves makes me want to scream lol. I think I may have to just turn the swing timing off.
