Mega bump as F1 and IndyCar get started this weekend.

Really looking forward to Australia to see how the new Pirelli tires work out. Can't wait for practice to start in about an hour.

Ahh, Formula 1 engine sound, oh how I've missed you.

Karun Chandhok already crashing the Lotus. Probably not quite the first lap he was hoping for.

Good ole Cowboy Karun... Wonder how long he will be in F1?

This is my favorite time of the year with the start of the F1 and Moto GP (last week). I will be up at 1:30AM EST to watch F1 practice.

Just learned/noticed that Indycar is no longer doing streaming of practice and qualifying on their website this year. I suspect it's probably because Versus didn't want them to do it, but it's still amazing to me that they can take one of the things they were better than almost anyone else at, and get rid of it. I think my interest in Indycar is going to be way down this season.

what are your odds on Sebastian Vettel vs the field for the Australian Grand Prix, and Will Power vs the field for the St. Pete race?

Yeah, I heard VS was the one behind that - something to do with the Comcast/NBC merger.

Also stinks that VS took away IndyCar promotions and televised qualifications. Last year VS was flooded with IndyCar promos. This year I've not seen a one. Rating were actually up last year from previous so the only sense I can make of it is that VS (a Comcast/NBC network) wants to see lower ratings from IndyCar so NBC can get a better deal when negotiating the broadcast rights to the Indy 500 (the deal with ABC expires after this season).

Well, Dario was dominant this afternoon in St. Petersburg.

Yeah, not a fan of that guy. I was pulling for Kanaan to catch up with him, but Dario just kept pulling away.

Speaking of first laps, how about the pileup on the first turn of the first lap?

Yes he did (which you probably know by now), but the surprise of the race had to be the 3rd place finish by Vitaly Petrov.

Vitaly had a great weekend, especially considering how Nick did. The Saubers also had a good run, unfortunately DQ'd though, but the look like they could rack up some good points this year, and Perez looks like he can hold his own. And McLaren surprised too . I was surprised how uncomfortable the Ferrari looked, during practice the thing looked like it was on ice.

Might get the teams to reconsider double file restarts, especially if the same sort of thing happens at Barber. St. Pete is kind of a weird track with how slick the airport runway paint is and how the track funnels in, so I'd like to see an attempt at a permanent track before they decide on double file restarts. But the beginning to the race yesterday was painful to watch.

Call me partial but IndyCar was the most exciting race of the weekend.

I don't see the double wide restarts being an issue. Races have always started in two rows and a first corner like that is built to punt someone. Restarts didn't look any worse than usual once the drivers got settled down and overall it made for some exciting action.

I was rooting for TK at the start but when Simona started catching up I was all for her overtaking him. Which I am pretty sure she would have it Viso wasn't such a dbag. Nothing like watching some back marker spoil it for no good reason.

Also looks like the IndyCar race got better than normal ratings. Wonder if people were home watching the NCAA Tournament and happen to flip over to the race. Glad to see. ABC did a nice job with it.

Yeah there's a bit of a battle between Indycar and the ISC. Unfortunately Chicagoland was collateral, which is too bad because it was one of the best races all year.
