Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
Ive been trying to stay awake to watch the last 3 F1 races.
They just come on way too late. Either I never made it to start time or fell asleep shortly after. Looks like I missed a really good race! Nothing tops that Talladega finish though!Comment

Webber drove his a-- off and to boot his KERS system was not working again (unlike his teammate?).GT: BIG CAROLINA23

Absolutely fantastic race
The redeye races are done for the time being, now we shift to 630 am starts. It's almost like the US is not the main market for F1.Wisconsin Badgers | Green Bay Packers | Vodafone McLaren Mercedes | Andretti Autosport

Couldn't have picked a better non-rain race to watch. And yeah, Webber put on one nice drive. I think my favorite Webber moment was when he said something along the lines of "It's nice to have someone else win" during the post-race press conference. Seems like things still aren't all that great between the Red Bull drivers.

Think I'm going to start pulling for WebberAaron

I was actually talking about after his comments after China this weekend. Here's the quote from Webber. Not quite as interesting in text, but you can still tell it's slight shot at Red Bull/Vettel.
It was good that someone finally, of course Seb is in the same team but he has been on a phenomenal run and we are all here together fighting for victories. Shame McLaren won in a way but also we can’t let Seb get too far away, so it was good day for the racing and good day for us in terms of points for the team.Comment

I'm liking the guy more and more, speaks his mind. Only thing I haven't seen is how he drives so hopefully he's not a douche ala Kyle BuschAaron

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
As far as Im concerned if you dont like a NASCAR race with 88 lead changes in a 188 lap race than you will never like NASCAR. I dont get why so many people dislike the two car packs. Its safer and still exciting IMO.
Im not a new fan either... been watching since 94'.
How many lead changes are in the average F1 race?
Dont get me wrong I like the technical racing that F1 is but I find it very hard to watch a whole F1 race. Lack of passing is the culprit. I missed a good one this past weekend though. They need more tire wear like this past weekend to make the F1 races more exciting.
I never thought the US was a main market for F1. Itll be interesting to see how the Circuit of Americas(horrible name) track will turn out and hopefully the reception is better than Indy! That tire debacle at Indy really hurt F1's chances of thriving in the US. Especially without an American driver for fans to root for. I wish the Speed channel would re-air the F1 races at a reasonable time. Like Sunday morning at 9am or something. I would at least try to watch every race if that was the case.Comment

F1, IndyCar, ALMS,MotoGP just to name a few do not thrive here in the US because the US is basically a Nascar country. We had an American F1 driver with Scott Speed but that didn't change anything (even though he was on a subpar team).
People like what they like and to me that is the bottom line. The Nascar tire cluster f at Indy was just as bad IMO, but it didn't hurt Nascar one bit.Last edited by BIG CAROLINA; 04-20-2011, 02:38 PM.GT: BIG CAROLINA23

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
As for not liking NASCAR if I don't like the superspeedway racing, I'll just let my eleven years (since it opened) worth of tickets to Kansas Speedway speak for themselves on that point.
It's going to be very interesting to see how Austin works out for F1. Not exactly the easiest place to get to from the bigger cities, either by car or by plane, and with the economy the way it is I'm really worried people aren't going to show up. Although maybe at this point I should just be worried about the track getting finished on time.Last edited by Chaos81; 04-20-2011, 12:24 PM.Comment

Not sure if you have them with your Cable/Sat provider but look into a DVR then you can watch when ever you want.

I know what your saying as far as the other big racing series in the US but the Indycar/CART issues in the late 90's was its downfall as at one point Indycar racing was more popular than NASCAR. I dont know if MotoGP or ALMS will ever become very popular.
The tire issue at Indy for Nascar was bad but NASCAR has a very well established fan base in the US and F1 does not. Therefore that tire issue in F1 was magnified much more and really killed the chances of a bigger fan base for F1 in the US.
Nothing to do with the two car packs for me, I don't like superspeedway racing period. Never have, never will.

Yep. The F1 Indy issue was just an easy excuse for people to use.

Like Big Carolina said people are going to like what they like.
I hope it works out with the Circuit of Americas track in Austin. Id be willing to drive or fly down there in the next couple of years to see a F1 race. Ive been to 2 races at Road America for Indycar & ALMS and those were some fun races to watch in person.Last edited by Brew; 04-20-2011, 01:45 PM.Comment

Re: F1/IRL/All Other Forms of motorsports Thread
I hope it works out in Texas also for F1 and MotoGP (my 2 favorite forms of racing). But if it does not (even though it would be nice to have a US race) F1 doesn't need the US to maintain it's spot as the #1 form of motor racing in the world.GT: BIG CAROLINA23
