What frustrates me in these races is that I can run fast laps; but it seems like my competition can run those types of laps throughout a run and have much less drop off than me. Common sense says that I'm over driving the car and burning up my tires, but I don't understand how my competition can run those laps and not burn up their tires.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
That's about how my time trial felt it looked. I don't remember now. We did run 4th and 5th in our race together haha, so maybe we're close in skill somewhat on Iowa. Im going to try and get more consistently around .5 and .6 and then try another race or two this weekend and see how it plays out. Of course variable is also in effect on it all, so who knows.
What's funny is I've always wanted to lean on the loose side in racing games. My setups always are loose and require a little more throttle discipline. Yet so far in the two weeks I've tried the National series I love it. It's been tight both weeks, but I've really enjoyed the car and tracks still.
My best guess is iRacing likes tighter over loose in fixed or else the races would be even more wreck heavy. Gassing it too early and hitting the wall is better than a car spinning mid turn and taking the field out.Last edited by canes21; 07-31-2015, 10:30 AM.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Haha, I haven't raced much anywhere yet. So far I like every track I've raced because my experience with tracks is so bare.
I was looking at the schedule and if I'm remembering right, there's a C class series that follows the real Nascar schedule too, correct? If so, I'd love to get my D4.0 in time for hometown Bristol. It'd be a perfect initiation into the higher levels of Nascar series for me. Racing the track I've grown up across the street from.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Any sites that will teach me how to setup my car properly?
Just ran 58's and one in the 57's at Pocono. After about 4-5 laps, I started getting loose on exit.
Tried Iowa for giggles..............25's all day long when I wasn't riding the wall.Comment

I think that was Doc. I haven't run an Iowa race.
Heck, I'm not even sure I want to run Class A fixed there. I'm picturing 90 caution laps.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Just ran a Class A Fixed race at Pocono. Had some ugly moments, some decent moments, and one YOU MORON moment at the end when I smashed the outside wall with 2 laps to go.
Ended up finishing 12th, but only because others had crashed out earlier. Would have finished at least 8th, and maybe higher had I not gotten greedy. I was right behind 6th and 7th coming out of turn 3 on lap 48 and went low to try and get inside 7th down the straight, but got on the gas a little hard and couldn't control the car. I went "Oh, yeah, that's why I don't try driving down there" after I smashed the outside wall.
It was still fun, even if I still have no idea how to start/restart.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Bristol is just a disaster on iRacing. Really, all of the high-line dominant tracks are nearly impossible to pass on against equitable drivers and it makes for demolition derbies from people attempting slide jobs. Maybe it'll get better when dynamic tracks come along, but it typically turns tracks like Bristol, New Hampshire, Iowa, Kansas (which is high-line dominant on iRacing), etc. into wreckfests.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Well, I made it a point to save fuel in the A Fixed race I ran earlier and won it on fuel mileage. It feels good to win a race on fuel mileage after losing it the other day!
Truth be told, I probably would have won it with a pit stop, too, but still! I ran out of fuel going into T1. I could have saved more fuel if I had needed too, though. I ended up winning by over 10 seconds, so there was room to spare. I was shifting into neutral in the corners to save fuel, though, and I didn't shift into 3rd like I normally do at Pocono since it burns more fuel.
As a side note, I've really enjoyed Indianapolis and Pocono over the last couple weeks on iRacing. The tracks are fun to drive, IMO, and the racing is generally good, aside from insanity on restarts. I like bumpy tracks, too.
Next week is Watkins Glen, so that'll be different!
I have to go to a wedding tomorrow afternoon, so I am not sure if I am going to be able to run the NiS race before I leave for that or not. If not, I'll probably run Sunday night.Last edited by superjames1992; 08-01-2015, 12:38 AM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Well just ran a late model race and boy it was a disaster. 3 times people tried to squeeze be tween me and the very bottom and spun me every time. This was a five flags. People need to learn patience geez!!

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Wait, what? You have to run the high-line at Kansas in iRacing?I guess that's because of the progressive banking, but wow. Good to know for next season I suppose, although I suppose we might have the new surface model by then and that will probably change things.
I ran a few laps there last night just to see how it felt. Guessing I was really slow (1:13s), but I enjoyed it. With the lack of full course cautions, just staying out of trouble and off the wall should be good enough for a decent finish.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I'd have to see more to tell you whether it's patience or they were faster than you. I will force the issue if I'm faster than you and you won't give enough room. Not to the extent that I'll put the car where it won't fit as I don't always want to try wrecking myself, but enough that you might want to change your line if I'm there lap after lap. Had to do it a car at Iowa last night. I was 7 seconds ahead of him within a couple laps after passing him and he held me up for 5 laps before that; probably could have gotten to a top 10 finish if not for him. If it's for position, I get it, but is it worth one position if you are going to get wrecked by a faster car?Comment
