    Re: iRacing after 2+ years

Just did another fixed truck race. First half of the race was all caution laps, second half was green, but on our first green flag lap I hit the wall out of three and lost 6 or 7 spots. Damage was enough that I couldn't catch back up, and I ended up 10th after someone spun in front of me.

Pretty typical race for me. Lose spots on start/restart? Check. Hit wall and damage vehicle? Check. Not fast enough with damage? Check. Finish behind where I started? Check. Hey, at least I picked up one iRating point, that's a positive, right?

I've only done 6 (Well 8 counting the two I crashed out of before lap 2) races since coming back, so hopefully as I get back into the flow of things and get more experience I'll stop screwing up all the time.

I'll wait to see a video before making a real judgement, but people always think others are too aggressive. For example: your previous video on this subject when you gave that guy all the room in the world and he self spun.

A question. Why is my club Illinois when I live in Indiana?

I did kinda come up the track a little on him. I gassed it earlier than I should have probably trying to keep 3rd and I never reached the line near the apron through the turn and then kinda came up the wall earlier than I wanted. I still think I gave him enough room to go up to, but I can see how I could be in the wrong off memory. When I get home I can try and post it.

I didn't feel a tap at all, but his car acted like he did. It wasn't anything intentional though. If I am in the wrong, at least I didn't ruin a race and can learn.

This gets said a lot but pretend there is an egg under the throttle and you're trying your hardest not to break it when you accelerate. Also make sure you're not keeping the wheel cranked fully when trying to accelerate. That's a quick way to end up spinning to the inside.

Check out my video in post #881 if you haven't yet, might help a little bit.

Does the credit card you paid with have an Illinois address? I ask because your location on here is "IL." That said, if you email [email protected] and tell them you live in Indiana, they can change your club for you.

Could be a net code thing and you might have looked like you intentionally slammed into him on his end.

Argh, I missed the NiS race tonight. Oh, well. Maybe I'll so some A Fixed later. I wasn't able to make the one yesterday since I was at a wedding (NOT my own, haha). I guess I will miss this week.

The fixed setup is definitely loose after a few laps. That being said, running with a loose setup isn't a bad skill to learn on iRacing as it can be the fastest way around the track (not as fast as an on-point setup, but it sure beats a tight setup).

I don't know a whole lot about setups, but the first thing you're going to want to do with the fixed setup is to increase the tape and try to minimize ride heights so that the car is as low as it can be against the track without bottoming out. Of course, at Pocono this is really hard and you pretty much have to settle with bottoming out in turn 1 in order to try to seal off the car in turns 2 and 3.

This is a good chart, IMO. It's a little outdated, but when I make a setup I usually go by this as much as possible when trying to finetune it.

Here is my setup from the spring NiS race. This was from the last build, so it probably needs tweaks, but it might be better than the fixed setup. I've just done fixed this week, so I haven't messed with any setups.

Chaos what series are you usually on? Is there a way for all of us I racers on here to get in a race together without hosting a race?

Chaos (Michael) and I were just in an A fixed race. The trouble is that they sometimes split, which could put us in different splits, but some of the later races (especially the 12:45 EDT) do not usually.

Anyways, I won another race on fuel mileage. I made sure to save from the start of the run this time around and only had to dip down to 58.2 seconds as my slowest lap. I was using neutral on corner entry (letting off around the 300-foot markers or maybe a little earlier) towards the end and I never used 3rd gear during the run as it burns more fuel.

I've been doing the Class A Gen6 and Class C truck races. EDIT: Fixed races that is. I don't have much interest in the open class stuff.

The only way for us to all be a race together without hosting would probably to run something like the Sprint Car at 2am. Since we're all going to have different ratings, we'll end up in different splits if we try a regular iRacing series.

Paying for hosting isn't issue if we all wanted to race together, I have no problem paying for it. Just tough to get everyone together at the same time on the same night.

Yeah, I'd host a race. I haven't done it before, but it's only $1, so cost isn't an issue. It would be fun.

We could also easily jump in open practice together if you all want to run some laps.

Yeah, see I forgot to do that until there were about 10 laps left, started to save a little, and then realized I wasn't going to make it so I hit the pits.

Therein was my problem. So evidently they have this thing called a "pit lane speed limit" that happens to be 60 mph. Well, I managed to forgot to slow down early enough and went in at about 63 mph, then I got distracted and went over 60 when I was on pit lane. That led to a nice 15 second penalty.

So to answer your question from the server, James, between the 15 seconds from the penalty, the 5 or so seconds I lost from slowing down before I realized I would need to pit, and the 3-5 seconds I lost because I flew past my pit stall, I finished 8th instead of 5th. At least I had some fun racing for position early in the race.

And about your joke on the server about how I was in your windshield at the end there. I almost slowed down before I got the white flag so I could cross the line right in front of you. I was going to post that picture on OS and say "I beat James!" Then figured maybe someone in front of me might somehow run out of gas so I decided against it.
