Michigan is driving me bonkers! I cannot get more than a couple laps in at a good speed without losing it out of 4 (and sometimes 2). Maybe 41's in the truck and 39's in the car are plenty, but I still doubt those are competitive times. For as nice as this track seems to be, I can't believe it's this hard. I felt reliable on Pocono after the number of laps I've ran here at Michigan.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Finished up an Xfinity race at the Glen. Started 8th and finished 9th as car #16 in the top split. I screwed up a couple times and went off track to lose a couple of positions, but I doubt I would have been able to stay ahead of the two guys who finished in front of me anyway.
All in all not a terrible race, but I would have preferred not flying off track in the bus stop.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I was trying to run the 2nd "lane" in the turns. Much easier to do in the truck but I could do it in the car, just had to be very careful out of the turns. I'm very inconsistent though with where I brake. I joined a hosted session earlier, but it was open setups so people were running low 38's/high 37's so couldn't take anything away from it really. Hopefully I can see some others in practice tomorrow night when it switches and 39's could be just fine, especially for the split I'll be in. iSpeed just had way too many 37's and 38's, but maybe they were open setups and I'm alright.
I just want to make up for Pocono and running a good 70 laps in top 10 before overdriving it at the end and only getting a 16th. This I believe is my last Cup race for the time being as well. I don't have Bristol, I'm out of town the weekend of Darlington, don't have Richmond, and I'll be at Chicagoland hopefully, then I go on break for much of football season and I'll take advantage of discounts black Friday.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
On that second one, how did they get all that extra data on the screen?
And Justin Gabehart who I think ran into the back of the guy in that 2nd video was in my K&N race this morning. He spun out early, but still managed to get back around me for 2nd. I wasn't very fast at all today.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
FINALLY. I won my very first race today. Fixed trucks at Indy. Man did that feel good. I also tried running some test sessions at Michigan in the truck and it is crazy freaking loose coming off the corners. Should be an interesting week.

Don't know how it works exactly, but I know it has to do with streaming and use the stuff on that page to get the overlays.
Awesome. Always feels good to get a win, and that first win is all much more sweeter.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
So I've been a member just over a month now. So far I'm loving it. I've spent right at $194 so far between the year sub, bonus credits and cars & tracks. Only thing I regret buying is the Skippy and a few road tracks. Have decided since to concentrate on Spec Racer for the road and it was included in membership.
It took me about 10 days to get the D license. Once there ran the modified a few times and still ran the rookie SS. Once I got the C I've been pretty much running nothing but IndyCar. Also ran a few truck races (Pocono and New Hampshire) but prefer the IndyCar over the truck. Got my best finish of a 3rd last night at Charlotte in IndyCar. Also got bumped up to a B License after that race.
One thing I've done that I think as helped me the most is muting chat with 1 to go. Then I unmute during any cautions and mute it again with 1 to go. Allows me to focus more on what I'm doing without being distracted by somebody complaining about other people. LOLComment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Had connection problems again. Did a hosted race at Michigan and they said I was flashing a ton. But everything I check says it's something down the line and out of my hands. Makes it very difficult to feel like I can get a reliable race in, but does sound like it could explain some of those rookie races where I was getting wrecked on pace laps. Maybe they just couldn't see me.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
As for the voice chat, I don't use it because my hearing isn't the greatest, but when I watch streams, I'm always amazed at how much people talk during races. I'd end up going nuts if I left voice chat on all race long.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Ran some laps at Michigan in the Gen6 car. Wish I was a little faster, but my best so far is a 39.1xx which doesn't seem to be too terribly off the fast guys. It's good to be on a nice wide track after the last few weeks.
Also did a few laps at Mid-Ohio with the Xfinity car. While I don't think the racing will be very good, that combo is a blast to just run laps on. And I'm finally realizing the benefit of the Elite's as I was definitely much more consistent under braking than I ever was with the DFGT pedals.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Yea, I don't see how people talk as much as they do let alone type while driving! I know some use those shortcut phrases, but no way all of it is. I keep a headset on, but I never talk during a race, especially in traffic, and if my friend spots for me, I still don't like to say much unless I have to for pit stops, car issues, etc.
Your Michigan times sound similar to mine. I am usually between 39 and 39.5, will fall off to the high 39's some laps. I watched a youtube video of an A fixed race and the guy that won ran a few 38's early, but was consistently in the same low 39 range as me so makes me feel pretty good. The 20-25 laps I ran yesterday I think I only lost it once and I really pushed it that time.
The truck is still a bit of a problem. Getting at best mid-41's and I still wreck it quite a bit. I want to race but I'm hoping I can get a solution to this service/skew problem I have before I get into a Cup race later this week.Comment

The trucks at Michigan are very much a handful. I don't know how they are getting in the high 40's without wrecking.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Don't know if it'll help, but here's a 41.178 I just ran. Messed up 3 and 4 a little bit, but I don't know how much it cost me.
The keys for me were to turn in a little earlier than I was and to keep a little throttle on while the truck was going to the bottom of the second lane. Before this lap, I was turning in a little later and getting off the throttle completely and letting the truck coast. That cost me too much mid-corner speed and my times were 2-4 tenths slower.
