    Re: iRacing after 2+ years

I did a few laps of practice at Michigan in the Gen 6 after the NiS race I did on Sunday night (another good one, finished 8th) and I think of the 10 or so laps I ran my best lap was a 39.0 or so. It seems that is a few tenths off some of the guys I will be racing with, so I probably need some more practice. Michigan is not one of my better tracks.

The setup seems pretty tight and I feel like it's basically pedal to the floor and pray on exit as far as hitting the wall, especially in turn 2.

Here's a 15 lap run I just did with the truck. I screwed up big time on my last lap there which is why it's so far out of wack. No traffic on this run, and I screwed up multiple times, but it's a more realistic showing of my lap times than that 41.1 I posted.

You mean 39.0 right? Because a 40.0 would make you much slower than I am and I know that's not the case.

            Re: iRacing after 2+ years

Just finished up a truck race at Michigan. Both my best and worst race since being back on iRacing.

Pretty disappointed with myself as I more or less caused a crash in turn 1 because I checked up, and then lost two spots in the final two laps to finish 7th because I over drove the truck to try and get 4th. On the bright side, it was the most enjoyable and closet racing I've had in my eleven races back, so that's good.

Gotta say, after not being a fan of fixed series and preferring longer races in the past, I'm really liking the shorter fixed races they have these days. Much easier to run a few laps then hop in and find a good race.

Also recorded this earlier. Qual lap at Mid-Ohio with the Xfinity car. One of those fluke laps as it was 3 tenths faster than my previous optimum lap and over a second faster than the laps I was running in a test session right before qual started. Not sure I'll end up racing here this week, but it's a fun combo.

              Re: iRacing after 2+ years

I was doing the responsible yet irresponsible thing of buying a new car to replace my lease yesterday so I didn't get any racing in. Still working on my routing issues with support.

Good to see y'alls times in the truck and car are comparable to mine. I feel pretty good especially since I should be in a lower split. The hosted race I tried on Monday afternoon was a fixed setup and had a ton of 38's, but even then, I was probably top 20 of 40 in the field with my speeds. Fuel mileage could be huge over 100 laps in the Cup car as well so might be able to play some strategy there.

The keys for me were to turn in a little earlier than I was and to keep a little throttle on while the truck was going to the bottom of the second lane. Before this lap, I was turning in a little later and getting off the throttle completely and letting the truck coast. That cost me too much mid-corner speed and my times were 2-4 tenths slower.

FWIW, my best lap during my race last night was a 41.422 and I only ran 3 laps under a 41.5xx.

I ran a 38.8 in the Gen 6. Still a little slower than I probably should be, but oh well.

The Xfinity car at Mid-Ohio is a handful. I ran some laps there, but I couldn't get under a 1:30.5 or so and I was very inconsistent. The camber is brutal there.

I ran a 41.06 with the trucks at Michigan. Interesting setup in that you're basically pedal to the floor the whole lap, so draft lock will probably be a thing, which I hate, so I doubt I'll race those.

Feel free to race it as me. I'll take laps like that.

Heh, I doubt I could string together much of those in a real race. You have to drive it in so deep on corner entry that if you just miss it a bit too late, the car won't turn and you're heading towards the outside wall on exit unless you practically stop.

EDIT: BTW, sorry, I meant 41.06. I keep on screwing up the times at Michigan this week, first saying I was running a 40.0 at Michigan when I was racing a 39.0, etc.

I just ran a truck race. I can keep it in the throttle going through 3 and 4 early on until the tires go. I can't keep it up through 1 and 2 or I put it in the wall. I was running high 41's/low 42's all race and started from the pits to get some laps in and hopefully a clean race... and then some jerk runs into me under caution on the last lap and I wind up losing SR. How can you not pay attention under caution! It's so easy. Just stay off the guy in front of you!

It seems my connection improved as well. No more red S bar.

Just finished a Gen6 fixed race in 10th (out of 16). Pretty fun race as I had a few good battles, but I burned my tires up and didn't have the speed on the long 30 or lap run we had at the end. Dropped 3 or 4 spots once the field spread out and the run went on.

I did manage to run a 38.827 in warm-up somehow. Nothing like randomly running a lap 2+ tenths quicker than anything else you've done to brighten up your day.

I want to get a little more comfortable in the Gen6 before trying an NiS race.

I've been planning on trying Richmond or Chicagoland in a few weeks once I've done a few more regular races with it. Bristol, Phoenix and Darlington are coming up and those should be a good car control test, although Bristol and Darlington sound terrifying at the moment.
