Re: Official Wii Impressions
Yeah, I'm in the "need to get into shape" camp as well. Hopefully this does that as I get no physical exercise at all (relying on a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE for exercise is disgusting, lol) I'm gonna go on a Wii search after the Texans game!Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
I played some Off Road Racing game (forgot the name) at Eb games today. Can't believe how much fun it is playing games with this controller. Going to have to get one for sure now.

Re: Official Wii Impressions
I got mine last night and as set up was a breeze. No problem logging into my wireless network, ran the update, etc. Made a few Miis and gave a run through Wii Sports. Tennis and Bowling are definitely the standouts. In Tennis I was able to really change up the velocity on the ball, with lobs and topspin. Bowling is a great reproduction, though the lack of weight to the controller does seem strange when you move it forward. Its no bowling ball! Baseball was just okay, but since I don't much care for the sport itself the videogame recreation doesn't excite me. Golf was hard - though you hold the remote like a club it is hard to gauge the power. I was better at it than in real life. Boxing I like, even though it has slightly unresponsive control. Because you are throwing the punches it is very immersive, and that makes the occasional missed punch input more frustrating.
I just put in Zelda this morning. So far it is good, and the controls are impressive. Targeting is no problem, but I haven't gotten the sword yet to test swinging it. I am having a personal issue with it, in that I am left handed and I've always used my left thumb to move. Because I need better control for aiming, I've switched hands and my right thumb is so clumsy as to be laughable. I run into things to say the least. Never realized how little I used my right thumb - even in shooters - with a traditional two stick control. I can't imagine watching me play would be much fun.
I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The control is that different and yet well done.
Plus I was able to get a second controller and nunchuk, so I expect some Punchout-style action to ensue after Thanksgivng dinner.Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
Hey Candyman,
Just a quick question if you got a second..
Did you put the bar above or below your tv and how much range does it seem to have? If I play sitting down most of the time, will I have to change the sensor when I stand up?
Thanks manComment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
I placed it above the TV, since I stand for the sports games and feel like that it will sense the Wiimote better. When I was playing Zelda on the floor, I sat about a few feet away from the TV and had no problem. You should have no problem, all you can do is try it out and see how it works for you. I will have to keep it on top of the TV or my kids will take it down if it's at the bottom of the TV. I was going to put the Wii in my office, but the room is not big enough for 2 people to really enjoy MP with the Wii. I noticed that if I go about 15-20 feet away from the TV, the signal is not as good. I need to move the sensor bar a bit further out where it's sitting right now for better range.Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
It is weird only because so many games have never had lefty controls. Living in a right-handed gamers' world, I learned over the years to move with my left thumb and target with my right. I don't have to do this ever again! (mainly because I sold my other systems...)
It is going to take some time for me to adjust. My right thumb is really poor at moving Link where I want him to go. However, it is not as bad as trying to use my right hand to aim with the remote! So until I "retrain" my right hand for movement, I lurch around and walk in circles before I can line myself up to climb a ladder. But I'm such a better shot being able to use my left hand.
For Wii Sports, you choose the "handedness" of your Mii. So my little avatar bats lefty, plays tennis lefty, bowls lefty... it is SO nice. I don't care which hand Link swings a sword with, but if I had to swing a backhand to represent a forehand in tennis because the little guy was right-handed I would be pissed.Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
i just finished a bit of COD3 for the Wii...so far im liking it
pros:
-controls takes some time to get used to, you have to turn the controller a bit so you can peek out around corners but once you get the hang of it its absolutely a blast
-the sound is very good and immersive...
cons:
-holy im in good shape and my shoulder started to get tired when aiming but then again i did shoulders yesterday at the gym so...
-muddy graphics, if anyone ever played COD: Big Red One for Xbox its up to par with that
-throwing grenades...holy cow you have to aim and let go of the directional button to release a few times i blew myself up...id rather have a throwing motion with the use of the Wiimote
i still dont have the component cable but i doubt that will help with the muddy look only make things sharper around the edges...im a graphics whore but im willing to look past the muddy look cuz once you get the hang of the controls its absolutely a fun
this add on will be absolutely worth it for me!Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
Hey Crucial, were you able to find one?
I placed it above the TV, since I stand for the sports games and feel like that it will sense the Wiimote better. Thanks for the response.
I had the chance to pick one up at an EB Games today...The only catch was that I would have had to wait from 8am to 11am in the cold, and also wasn't going to be able to grab Zelda or component cables. Should have done what you did and order them beforehand! I just ordered them now, so should get them in a week or so. I'll grab a Wii then.
Keep those impressions coming. I'm also psyched to pick up a bunch of Cube games...You have any?Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
Picked up my preorder today around noon with Zelda, COD3, and Excite Truck (wifes game mainly).
Breeze to set up and connect to our wireless network. Everything is very intuitive. I love the feel of the controller.
As for the games, I messed around with Wii sports and COD3. Not gonna play Zelda until my winter break, when I can really get into it, so I'm not gonna even allow myself to try it- because I know I'd get hooked.
Wii sports is a lot of fun. Loved the bowling and tennis like everyone else. Baseball and boxing are sort of "eh" they'll keep you entertained for about 10 minutes or so. Didn't try golf.
I think COD3 is great. The control isn't perfect yet, but I'm telling you that the Wii control system for FPS's is potentially revolutionary. It just feels right, and I honestly felt more emerged in the game than any other FPS I've played. Once they get a good online FPS on the Wii, it will be awesome.
Didn't try Excite truck yet.
I'm very excited right now about the Wii's potential. Its up to developers to use the new gameplay mechanics to create some innovative games."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams
