Yes, Mario 64 can be played with the Gamecube or WaveBird controllers.

A few tidbits that some people were asking about.

Each game doesn't take up much space at all to save. On the system Flash Memory - 512MB, totals to around 2170 "Blocks" since the Wii counts everything as "Blocks" like they did with the Gamecube.

Legend of Zeda Save = 1 Block
Trauma Center Save = 2 Blocks
      Mario 64 Save = 1 Block

I also have a 1GB SD Card that equals to 7745 Blocks Total.

I was playing around with Mario 64 save of the entire game and it looked like I was able to copy the game to my SD Card, as it took it a few minutes to transfer the data from the Flash Memory to the SD Card. I wonder if it stamps an imprint of the download as a receipt if you ever lost the download of a VC title from the Flash Memory. I will have to conduct some further testing with this.

I downloaded Mario 64 on the VC tonight. I will admit, the game looks pretty good on my TV and didn't appear to be stretched out too bad. Sorry for the glare in the pictures. I'll take some more this weekend on my 30" CRT HDTV to see if the rumor that I heard was true about how the VC games look on there. I hope eveyone enjoys.

          Guys...

I bought Zelda, Madden, Rayman, Super Monkey Nutz, and Trauma Center.

I'll give you guys the inital impressions on Wednesday night.

I got side tracked by Wii Sports.... played a little Zelda... and milked a pig in Rayman... Thus far I'm really really happy with my choice to sit outside in 32 degree weather for 9hrs.

At least the Po-Lease Man didn't bother those of us waiting outside. My Walmart, which is not a 24hr store, only recieved 20 of them. I was #11.

As for Zelda... from the current gen graphics, it's easily the best looking XBox, Gamecube, or PS2 game. The way it looks, animates, and moves. It's just a very pretty game.

          Rayman looks pretty good too.
Im pretty psyched to have a party game. I'm waiting on Nintendo to send me a few more controllers and my component cables. Late next week.

.... more for you guys on wednesday.

That pretty much seals that I won't ever need a SD card...

From what I understand of the VC download and license stuff, you can delete VC game saves from your memory and download it again since Nintendo somehow keeps a record of which VC titles you have purchased (I'm assuming whenever you purchase a title it stays on the menu in someway). According to IGN, you cannot take a VC title and transfer it to another Wii that hasn't purchased that game.

It's the same as Xbox Live Marketplace. You can delete the games from your system (since there's only so many blocks on the Wii Channels, not memory and each game takes up a channel), but you can re-download them for free anytime you want.

I wonder if Nintendo has factored defective i.e. "bricked" systems which need to be replaced and use a different S/N?

I'm still amazed as to how Microsoft can keep up with all the S/N changes to their XBL database due to all of the defectives.

                    Nintendo Better have an idea.
Unless they tie it to an account you make.

MS has it done right. Just tying it to your Gamer Tag and Account is really nice since it doesn't matter if your system Bricks.

Not true. XBL downloads are tied to your s/n of your system as well.

Thanks Pratt, if it wasn't for that glare spot in all the pics. I want to download an NES game next and see how that game would look on a 16:9 TV. That will be my next test.

So how does the online work with the Wii? Are there friends list, invites, etc? Or is that not until 2010 when the Nintendo Yipee comes out?

Right now, there is no friends list or online.

It's like the DS, it's a system code.

i think i'm going to trade in my xbox & gamecube towards a Wii (both being useless as my older brother has an xbox, and since the wii has ports for GC memory cards and controllers, i'll never use my gamecube again)

I need some Zelda in my life
