Re: Official Wii Impressions
Wow!
I can attest to the fact that Nintendo has succeeded in making a video game system that appeals to segments of consumers who traditionally have not been interested in games in the past.
My girlfriend is 22, and views video games as something that kids and guys play. She played video games as a kid, but no longer has any interest in them - until now. She played Wii Sports the other night, and almost immediately became addicted to Tennis. There is something really basic and enjoyable about being able to swing the Wii like a tennis racket.
Last night, my 46 year old sister stopped by my house and I showed her Wii Sports bowling. My sister is from the generation that grew up as kids in the 60s right before the first video games in the 70s/80s. As such, she has never been into games. But - she really liked bowling, and bowled a complete game (and threw a 132). Nintendo was really smart in packing-in Wii sports and making it easy to play.
Then - I went over my friends' new apartment, where they had 10 people in their 20s-30s, just hanging out and relaxing on "Thanksgiving Eve." The one couple had their 1 year old child with them, and several of the other couples have been dating for a year or less. After a few drinks, I brought out Wii Sports, and they all were blown away by it. In fact, surprisingly (to me anyway), most of them had never even heard about the new Nintendo system (although all of them were aware of the PS3). The couples loved playing tennis against one another, and we had a great time creating Mii characters for people. It was great too, because the one dude who is dating our friend is kind of shy and doesn't have much to add to the conversation. But, he was all about tennis and baseball.
Today at Thanksgiving will be interesting. My Dad is an ex-Marine who has always despised video games for being mindless and excessively violent. He loves golf, and bowled in a league for years though. I can't wait to break out Wii sports after dinner. I am going to laugh if he gets hooked.
Bottom line - I am really impressed by what Nintendo has going with the Wii. I have shown Wii Sports to about 15 people, and nearly everyone has said that they want to buy a Wii. And, as soon as I tell them that it is $250, you can see that they see this as reasonable.
I honestly could see Nintendo selling 10s of millions of Wiis in the U.S. I forget what the PS2 "install base" was in the U.S. (was it 30 million?), but I wouldn't bet against Nintendo hitting 30 million. In fact, honestly, buying stock in Nintendo right now would probably be a great investment. As more and more people experience this, Nintendo is going to have really strong sales.Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
played the Wii tonight at a friends house, and I'm really not impressed at all , I mean the new controller is cool and all, but I came away like ok, I played baseball, Boxing, and tennis. The baseball game was really week , I mean this system must have really been made for the younger generation. I didn't like it at all.N.Y Mets
