On a side note, I was reading an article this morning that Sony is going to drop the price on the current set of PS3's on the market because of the hacking issues. They plan to introduce a new 300gb system for $299, so the rumor is that the current inventory might be selling at $249.
Figures this happens after I order a new system.

So i got my new PS3 (amazon) and hook it all up -wired to router. In my settings it shows i'm enabled ,but everytime the connection keeps failing, timed out can't find my ip address? Don't know if this has been a problem with ps3 owners or not. Any ideas? thanks

Open your router settings and see if it shows any traffic from the PS3. You may need to open certain ports up. Also it could be something as simple as a router reset.

Open my router settings? I'm lucky I found the port to plug it into. haha I think that may be over my head. I tried the reset no go. I guess its time for me to get a wireless router maybe that will work ,any suggestions ? Dam they make it hard , whatever happened to plug and play, i thought thats all I would have to do for internet connection.

I recomend staying wired. Although the PS3 wirelessly the PS3 does work incredibly well. I actually think the first thing you should do is call SONY. 1-800-345 SONY. I know it's cliche to say that, but I'm sure it's something simple they can easily walk you through. Also. I found this.
Hello, i just got my ps3 back and i have set everything up the way i think it says to but my ps3 won't obtain the IP address. It says "the key information exchange timed out" and won't go any further than that. I don't know if i should use the IP server and if i should then what do i put in? I'm not all that good all this crazy stuff and I need someones help so please i just need to know how to set up a wireless connection

            hi all,
I had the same issue so what i did was the following

before doing this switch off your router for 30 secs and then switch it back on..

            a) instead of selecting easy choose custom when on connection settings
            b) scan through and do not make any changes allowing it to select everything automatically
            c) when going through the connections let it check your DNS server, I.P address automatically

check connection settings and your done

the difference is most people select easy, but in this case you need to select custom and go through the options without making any changes

just a long winded way of doing it but worked for me, it may not work for all off you but worth a try
            Try that too.

They should just gather all of the user suggestions and start chipping away at them. Not huge stuff like universal voice chat, but how about my idea of being able to turn off notifications for people on your friends list signing off/on but still being able to have a notification for when you receive a message? What about getting a notification when someone on your friends list gets a trophy?

Or maybe make it easier to back up all of your save files on a flash drive. Perhaps be able to schedule a time once per week or per month where it will turn on, do it automatically, and shut off?

I'm just looking for some ease-of-use things like that.

I would love that friend sign on/off notification feature. It's not fun to have 100 active people on your friend's list.

Ok fellas, need some advice. Getting a PS3 hopefully in the next couple of weeks. What are some of the better PS store games/content that I need to get?

Also, I doubt it, but can you install your games on your hard drive like the 360 allows?

Most games require you to install them the first time you put them in your PS3.

It's not the same kind of "install" option like the 360 is offering, though. I mean it might be the same, but if a game is both on PS3 and 360 and the PS3 version requires an install, if you choose to install on 360 you are getting more out of the installation itself.

Try recycling your equipment. Power down everything and then power up in order of Modem > Router > PS3

Make sure PS3 setting are set for Auto as far as IP address etc...
