If you have a surround sound setup and your receiver has an input for this, or better yet most new flat screen HD tv's as well have one on the back, use it.

The sound is a million times better.
Alright sorry for the nooby question, but where is it on the back.... Is it the AUX one? And this doesn't use the Red and White Cables? Interesting.

The optical cable makes the sound much more clear through your Surround Sound system.

Its a small black port on the back where if you open the little trap door a red beam is inside. You can find one off of amazon for about a penny and up if you look hard enough. Monoprice has em at good deals as well. They really arent expensive but yeah looks like one of these

To bad my Old "CUSS WORD" Bose system does not have an Optical input because this would be the way to go. I just can't muster up the nerve to part with my Bose system. The thing just has a banging sound after 7 years and still going like the day I bought it. Peace!!!

            Wow really?

Yeah that sucks because optical TOS Link makes a difference. Especially watching movies in DTS.

Im sure you can find a cheap reciever that has it though...

question, you can't use the optical cable when using HDMI right?

Is there a spot for the optical cable on the 360 slim? I don't see it on my Halo edition.

Most flat screens have an optical jack as well. So you could just hook up your tv that way too. Because whatever runs through the tv will run out that jack to your home theatre system as well.

Yep, you can use both. The 360 automatically adjusts and with the PS3 you have to change it manually.

Like others have already stated..... Installing to the HDD on the slim, games are silent while running. I love it.

How old is your receiver? I haven't seen a receiver newer then the year 2000 that doesn't have one.

Hey guys. I'm thinking about picking this up.

I may have a deal in place where I can sell my old 360 and Assassins Creed II to a friend of a friend for $175. Which means I'll essentially be paying $150 (after taxes) to upgrade.

My one question is, does the new system support .avi playback? I have a lot of movies that I'd like to watch on the 360, otherwise, it kind of makes having a 250 gb hard drive useless for me. If anyone can answer that and let me know if the above deal is good, that'd be great!
