This makes me sad. I love my Vita and honestly use it everyday. Really hate that they never really supported it.

      Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion

I don't own a Vita as im not into portable gaming but it's a shame that Sony screwed over their own portable by overcharging for those memory cards. That was insane.

Even worse, Sony had a golden opportunity two years ago when the PS4 was set to launch and Xbox One was launching with Kinect for $500.

My plan would have been this -

      - Redesign the Vita to include L2/R2 trigger buttons, remove the back screen touch or whatever the hell it's called and add in an HDMI out port.

      - Release the redesigned Vita for $200 along side the PS4 launch making it a "dual launch". Lower all the memory cards to 50%.

      - Show off "remote play" which they were doing at the time.
      - Support cross buy, cross play and cross save. Even if this means losing a little money from third parties by having them implement all of this and having to pick up the cost, so be it.
      - With the addition of the HDMI port, you would be able to play every game on your HDTV in a minimum of 720P. Not sure what the Vita's maximum resolution is but considering the difference in aspect ratio, I think that 720P would be good considering the games aren't meant to be played on an HDTV.
      - When playing via the HDMI port, developers would have the option of using the Vita screen as a "second screen" experience (think 3DS) that could be used for the map, item inventory, etc. Simply adds more to it.

      - Vita's redesign would release along side PS4 for $200 and include the Vita handheld itself, AC adapter, HDMI cable, 32GB memory card and a free 30 day trial membership to PlayStation Plus. The membership would also stack if you're already a PlayStation Plus member and of course, as it is now, one membership covers the entire PlayStation ecosystem (PS4, PS3 and Vita).

      - Announce and advertise a promotion combination where when pre-ordering (and eventually buying when stores get restocked in early 2014) a PlayStation 4, you can also get a Vita brand new and sealed in it's original box for $500 which in turn saves the consumer $100.

      - With Microsoft releasing Xbox One with Kinect being mandatory at the time for $500, I think that this would have been huge. Even if just half the consumers who purchased a PS4 at launch took advantage of this promotion combination, the Vita would have gained a lot more momentum going into 2014 and beyond.

      - And best of all, PSTV never happens and whatever amount of money was put into that would automatically go into the redesign.

Sad part is that even now, I still think that Sony could do some kind of promotion combination but they're done with Vita which is sad because as bad as it was marketed and whatnot, I truly believe that PSVR is going to be and do worse.

Sorry for the rant but it actually bothers and aggravates me in regards to what happened to Vita and im not even into portable gaming. Imagine if I was. I would really be pissed.

        Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion

I no longer have my Vita, but thought I'd quickly chime in.

I got my Vita shortly after it's launch and immediately fell in love with the system. It was an impressive piece of tech that sadly like others have mentioned, wasn't marketed very well and was poorly executed by Sony. For me having a console like experience that I could take anywhere with me was a huge plus. I can't remember the amount of times I'd take it with me on the train system or on long car rides with friends. Being able to watch Youtube videos or Netflix on that gorgeous OLED screen was another huge bonus. I could think of many things that lead to the Vita's down fall. It's pricing, controls, and lack of "AAA" games.

You're setting yourself up to fail when your 32GB memory card was well over 100$. Nearly half the cost of the console itself. Pair that with a case and a couple of games and your into this system for close to $400 from the get go. While the back touch pad might've seen innovative, it was just wasn't practical or easy to use at all. I remember playing games and always accidentally doing controls I never intended because my index finger would tap the back of the Vita. This issue made the Vita IMO awkward to hold. Then there were the lack of great games. Killzone Mercenary was arguably the best game on that system but it came out too late.

I ended up selling my Vita probably 6-8 months after I purchased it. Never really regretted it at all because I kind of knew the fate of the Vita based on how it was selling and just the overall lack of support and execution from Sony. Such a shame, the Vita could've been a REALLY great system that could've gave the 3DS a run for it's money. Tech wise the Vita was obviously the superior system, but that 3DS has what the Vita never had. Proper support and amazing games.

R.I.P Vita. The little handheld that had so much potential.

Ironically, one of the games I've been waiting for the longest - since the PSP era - is coming out in a matter of days after this announcement and will be fully playable on the Vita.

I'm definitely not done with this thing yet, even if Sony is.

That would be Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter, a part of a JRPG series initially created by Nihon Falcom in 2006, and translated and re-released in NA in 2011 by XSeed. First Chapter has what I consider to be the most well-done translation I've seen despite being entirely text - not voiced (even though the story wasn't all that engaging until the end), but it also left off on a massive cliffhanger where the second chapter picks up.

SC's script is multiple times larger than FC is (which was big in its own right - my clear file is around 50 hours), and has been a massive collaboration project between XSeed and Carpe Fulgur for the last 4 years. I think it's going to be worth the wait.

It is also being released on PC at the same time, as was First Chapter. Would definitely recommend playing FC first if you're interested.

No triple-A games pretty much means they are done with the Vita, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Moving Gravity Rush and Tearaway sequels to the PS4 was a clear sign that the Vita is nothing but an afterthought to Sony.

As long as they never take away my Remote Play, The Show can still be saved through the cloud (not for long given no new versions though) and people still play KillZone: Mercenary online, I'm not going to be chucking it anywhere.

Bought my Vita a month or two after release and I personally feel that is just never lived up to it's full power. Looking back on Madden 13, that game looked very good. It's a shame they never worked on another.

So now the Facebook app will no longer be supported January of 2016. I don't know if that means they'll get rid of it as well, but if it follows the trend of the YouTube app it very well may be.

Not a big loss, but it makes me think about if they will screw us over by ditching Remote Play one of these days. The day they do, I'm chucking my Vita and I'll consider selling my PS4 as well.

The only way that happens is if they re-architect it or something. i dont see it happening with both the Vita and PSTV in the wild and by the time those sales atrophy to the point that would allow them to, this gen will be long in the tooth.

These third party services are evolving and that requires engineering to continue to support.

Software isnt typically Sony's thing, im sure we'll see a few additions and tweaks over the next few years but for the most part they are done developing the PS4 OS.
