What kind of game is animal crossing? I've never played nor have seen it being played before.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
It's a life-sim; a content filled sandbox. It has a little in common with Harvest Moon, except you can do whatever you want at your own pace. It looks and sounds mundane, but there's just something relaxing and enjoyable about it. It's a game you just have to play to either get it or not, because it's difficult to describe or show what exactly Animal Crossing is.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Animal Crossing is just a fun relaxing game. I remember AC City Folk and getting online with it. Was really fun going to other players cities and borrowing fruits etc...
Also the holiday days are great..... Game is just an all around fun game.Joshua:

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Put a little time into Soul Hackers, and as I expected, I'm digging it. It's definitely old-school mechanically: everything is in first person (except for navigating the overworld, which is reminiscent of some other SMT/Persona games of just controlling an avatar cursor around place to place), encounters are random, and the battle system is traditional turn-based (battles are pretty fast paced though). You have two party members (one melee, one magic) and can have up to 4 demons join you.
One of the big hooks is still talking to demons through dialogue trees. You respond with what you think the demon wants to hear to try and recruit them, but there's an alignment rule of Law and Chaos, so depending on what type of demons you currently have summoned or the choices made during the story, this rule will have an affect. This can be turned off, if you don't want to have to worry about it and be able to recruit whoever. There's a loyalty system for demons and each race has its own personality. If you stray to far, it will result in them being less obedient in battle or upright leaving. It's all pretty self explanatory and the digital manual tells you about each race: Wild demons just want to attack without using magic, Dumb demons can't be told anything, Kind demons only want to support, ect. Once their loyalty is maxed though, they will do whatever you tell them to. You can also temporally alter their personality by giving them liquor.
Demons in Soul Hackers don't gain levels, so it's important to be constantly fusing new and more powerful demons as you level up. Eventually, you can fuse during dungeons, but the chances of "accidents" are high. It's also important to balance talking to demons and fighting them, because you obviously want to gain EXP, but Magicite is a resource you need to have, as it drains every step you take in dungeons (how much depends on the demons and number summoned in the party) and costs you a specific amount to pull demons out of the Compendium.
The voice acting is good, and the game is fully-voiced, besides minor NPCs and demons (boss demons are voiced). Visually, it's average at best, but the 2D art and sprites hold up well, plus the art is nice. The atmosphere of this cyberpunk world is great, the story is dark and mature, and the characters are likable (what you would expect from SMT). The UI could have been better, and the audio mix is off with headphones and the volume overall is lower than any other 3DS game I've played. Soul hackers is an easy recommend for fans, but newcomers wanting to break into the series may want to hold on until SMT IV, which will have all the things that make SMT so great, just much more modernized and accessible across the board.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I didn't like AC for the DS as much because the screen was too small for catching bugs and it didn't have real life holidays like all the other versions do. But if you want to pick it up cheap, you definitely will see what the game is all about.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I did really get into the Wii one (I remember playing online with aukevin years ago! The only time I played online with Wii probably lol). It's just a bit less likely for me to pop on a home console and play this vs. the handheld.
I'm really looking forward to 3DS version...I can see myself playing for 20-30 mins at lunch to take a break from work every day.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I liked the console versions more, but that's because it's easier to pick up and play.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Yep, when this drops, we'll definitely have to visit each others towns again. That was a blast in City Folk. I'm still pretty proud of my accomplishment in that game of catching every bug, fish, and fossil in the game without time traveling more than about 16 hours from the current time. Took a year to do it, but it was fun times. I hope the 3DS version offers just as much playtime. I'm sure it will because it doesn't seem like they have changed the core of the game. It will be a fun twist being the mayor this time around and getting a little more town customization.
I never thought I'd like this style of game but it's really fun. I'd recommend everyone give it a shot, it's more fun than you think.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I've been giving it some thought lately about purchasing a 3DS XL. Being the ripe old age of 40 though has given me pause. While the Vita comes across as a more adult driven portable, I'm trying to determine what the 3DS is. Seemingly, the games appeal to me more so on the 3DS than the Vita. I still have great memories of playing my DS Lite (Mario Kart and the New Super Mario Bros just to name a couple). I can be lazy, and the thought of just grabbing the 3DS off the night stand rather than trekking down to the basement to play the 360 is a nice option. Not to mention I've been slowly moving away from the serious games.
Just curious what everyone's thoughts are. I do wish the 3DS came in an all black or silver casing. Seems it might come across as an older type portable.PSN: sportdan30

The device is just a portal in which to play games. If games you can enjoy are on the system, that's all that matters.
FYI, I'm 35 and the game I want most is Animal Crossing, the kiddiest looking around.Comment

The 3DS gave me games only available of the handheld and frankly, I had more fun with the 3DS games.Joshua:
