    Never even heard of S.T.E.A.M

But if it's like Advance wars I'll give it a shot for sure lol

      Re: Nintendo 3DS

I enjoyed the Code Name S.T.E.A.M demo. It has pretty different feel from Intelligent Systems previous work. It seems by design to not give you a ton of information for what is going on. Putting the emphasis on you positioning your team on the ground-level and with high-points on later maps in the demo to gain visibility is interesting. There's no overhead map, so positioning your team always behind cover will obstruct your view during the enemy turn phase, so there's pros and cons. How well the focus on line of sight plays out is really going to come down to map design.

      Multiplayer sounds neat:

I'm probably jumping on the new 3DS.
As goofy as this might sound.. My WiiU and 3DS have jumped ahead as the most played systems for me right now.
I'm sure it's part of my ADD having to cycle stuff quickly.

I had the XL a while back but didn't play it enough and sold it.
Always kept my Zelda 3DS system though.

Now that I see I'm playing it more and more.. I need to get back to the larger screen.

Not to the degree of the pic in the article but it's basically useless now.

Lol... I totally misread your original post. Thought you meant the Circle Pad Pro add on lol

Sucks about the pad though man.
Don't think I'd ever play a fighting game on my handhelds BUT I'm not a fighting game fan either so I can live with that.

Smash Bros is what brought my XL to its knees and why I waited for the new 3ds before buying another one

My Circle pad now sticks on the one I got. You can actually lift the pad of with your fingers then it work like normal, but if you apply much pressure you will hear it click and then it's like it's stuck in clue or something

Monster Hunter might have also added to it. I'm hoping the New 3Ds holds up better to such games

Mine too. It's really gummy or something. Because I can't use the circle pad, it's given me a convenient excuse to replay my favorite 3DS game, Fire Emblem Awakening. Everything can be done via D-pad and buttons or the touchscreen.

Would anyone recommend buying a 3DS for a commute? I'm going to be switching jobs in a bit, and I've been considering buying one, since it looks like I'll be on a bus for 15 minutes, then on light rail for 30, twice a day going to work and back. It seems like having a portable device like this would be perfect for some pick-up-and-play time on the go. Any specific games that would be recommended like that?

It'd be a good way to pass the time. There's plenty of games that can be played in short bursts.

                    New Super Mario Bros. 2
                    Super Mario 3D Land
                    Kirby Triple Deluxe
                    Star Fox 64 3D
                    Mario Golf World Tour
                    Animal Crossing New Leaf
                    Crosswords 3DS
                    Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
                    Mario Kart 7

Most of the RPG's that are out also have a pretty liberal save system.

Great list. I approve of it, especially the Animal Crossing recommendation. That's a great time-waster on a commute.

And I'd definitely recommend Fire Emblem Awakening. I can't recommend it enough.

Well, I think that seals it then. I'll probably be finding a way to pick one of the refreshed New 3DS XLs then (along with a charger, because I've read it doesn't come with one).

Are Pokemon X/Y or Super Smash 3DS good options for a first game? I don't have a Wii or WiiU, so it's been a while since I've played Smash.

DO NOT get Smash on 3DS. It's a good game but the 3DS slide/circle pads can't handle Smash. It's the very reason why I have to get a new 3DS in the first place.

Why don't the New 3DS come with a charger? I mean really was there actually a reason behind.

It's not big deal for most but what if someone bought it as a gift for a first time 3ds owner. It's just common sense to put anything that needs charged to be provided in the box. Especially when you are paying over $200
