Re: Wii U Discussion
Where is all this ZombieU skepticism coming from? Were there some bad previews or reviews that I missed?
I've only put an hour or two in so far, so I can't really give anything close to a full review, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one.
I saw somewhere people complaining about the controls being sluggish, but that isn't the case at all. There is definitely more weight to your movement, and the sensitivity isn't all cranked up, but I'm sure that's just your typical horror/survival game effect. Kind of close to Dead Space I guess.
The gamepad makes for a great gameplay companion. It's pretty nice having inventory, map, gadgets, and mini game features on the gamepad. It definitely adds to the experience, and doesn't feel tacked on at all. One little thing I liked was that when the guy who looks after you in the game radios you a message it only plays through the gamepad speaker, and it really adds to the immersion of someone actually communicating via walkie talkie.
The Zombies I've encountered so far aren't all that fast, but they're not Walking Dead slow... They have a speed-walk or jog gear they kick into when they lock on to you, and **** gets real in a hurry when a group of them corner you. The gun play is run of the mil, nothing special, but there is definitely something satisfying about nailing a charging zombie with a perfectly timed cricket bat to the head.
This cricket bat melee is a good example of how the gameplay is slowed down to horror game speed, so to speak. You have to rear the bat back with ZL, and then swing forward with ZR. It takes a little extra timing skill than a single button press, but it adds an element of realism.
I accidentally started off on Survival Mode... which is literally that. If you die, the campaign is over. So I have to start over now, lol. I was cornered, while being attacked by a small horde, and I should've survived, but I screwed myself by putting off a reload until my clip ran out... And that was it for me.
The graphics are actually surprisingly good at times, especially for a launch title, but there are definitely a few ugly textures and what not that pop up occasionally. But overall, it's a pretty good looking game.
The game doesn't really give you a big sense of the story starting off, but hopefully that will build as the game goes on. Everything to this point has been pretty vague. Now, more than everComment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Some reviews are as low as 4.5 out of 10 and then there's some as high as 90 lol
Think it's one of those love it or hate it games....Joshua:

Re: Wii U Discussion
Picked one up at work tonight (Toys R Us), as I was leaving, we had someone cancel their preorder so I got first dibs and bought one. Excited to try it as family loves the wii and hopefully the wii U succeeds for us. Will do impressions soon.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Oh, wow. I didn't realize that.
I've only scratched the surface, but it feels like the kind of game that I could really get into.
I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with this over the long weekend. Now, more than everComment

Just really intrigued by the flexibility of the system thus far.
Played a bit of solo and multiplayer CoD tonight. Plugged in my cell phone headset to chat. In the campaign, I got a bit stuck, so I hit the home button and fired up the browser. The lower right search icon prompted me to search for Black Ops 2, so I did, and found a walkthrough video. After watching it, I jumped back into my game flawlessly.
When I was done, I cruised around Miiverse and the message board. Since I was done playing for the night, I hit the TV remote button, accessed my Dish Hopper with it, and used the guide to hit up some SportsCenter. Closed the remote app and went back to wandering around Miiverse on the gamepad.
Can those of us with WiiUs post our IDs to get a friends list started? Mine is dbeth77.

Re: Wii U Discussion
I'm telling you, I love ZombiU.
I think the bad reviews come from having different expectations regarding the style of game.
It's a survival horror game where you are a random person in a zombie apocalypse. Of course it's going to take 3 or 4 swings of a cricket bat to kill a zombie. You aren't some special forces trained CoD badass. If I was in that scenario tomorrow I don't know if I could kill a zombie with 3 or 4 swings haha.
On another note, these are my cons to the system so far (besides the obvious underpowered complaints):
1. The GamePad doesn't support an A/V receiver. I have everything running through my 7.1 receiver so I can't the GamePad to control the volume or switch inputs. Not quite the universal remote I was hoping for.
2. I bought a 1 TB external 2.5" USB HD last night and was ready to go "all digital" and perhaps download CoD, Madden or NBA 2K, but those games aren't available in the eShop. I guess I was spoiled by the Vita's setup where everything is available day 1 on the PSN.Comment
