What would I do? Move the $100 to another controller and purchase another game. While the $100 isn't going directly to Microsoft, I think most people would still be buying something to provide a better experience with the Xbox One.

That's my plan, as well. I want to see how things like online servers, multi-plats, console reliability, etc., compare before I take the plunge. I'll ride out current gen until next summer.

$400, and I'm there day 1 with or without my hatred of Kinect.
If it's all true, maybe they are looking at it as an investment as a means of avoiding a slow release.. Or to bolster whatever momentum they already have.

That could be easily chalked up to a marketing expense of it was that small of an amount at the end of the day.

But long-term it could cost them. 400 would be a huge plus though.

              Re: Xbox One

I'm not sure $100 off is all a loss, I thought both of these companies this time around weren't selling the machines at a loss and if they are it isn't much of one. If that's the case, lessons like what the PS3 went through aren't comparable. Either way it's not being sold for hundreds of dollars lost per console, and with the PS3 people weren't buying games to help recoup that loss, they were buying Blu-Ray movies.

MS could create a similar situation with Kinect and the multimedia functions, but they also have Live to help offset costs too and the Kinect doesn't have the buzz and enthusiast interest that Blu-Ray did.

In the end if anyone's in a position to make that kind of move, MS is. I don't expect it to happen, and feels more like a rumor setting people up to be disappointed.

I don't think in the grand scheme of things it really matter all that much. Drops in a bucket IMO. Especially when you factor in LIVE for everyone which is a nice added income every year per online player.

Latest voodoo on the benefits of the cloud:

Microsoft already talked up how the cloud component of its Xbox One console will work, but now we're hearing of the benefits from the dev's side. The verdict is certainly positive so far, with Dan Greenawalt, creative director for Forza 5, extolling its virtues, citing it as a "tremendous opportunity" in a recent interview with OXM. His team has been using it to take care of a lot of the AI elements in the game -- such as its Drivatar system -- which he claims would usually take up about 10 - 20 percent of the console's processing power. By letting the cloud deal with it, however, it can spill out into much greater complexity, with Greenawalt claiming a boost equivalent to "600 percent" of the actual Xbox's brains. This, in turn, freeing up the 10 - 20 percent it would have used for something else. Bold statement, of course, but with the early signals looking good, this is one feature we're glad still made the cut.

                    Re: Xbox One

The question I have about the cloud is if this technology is allowing them to save all this processing power, where is that power going to in return? Will this 20-30% extra processing power be used to make a determining difference in the game?

Greenawalt is a developer with Microsoft studios so we aren't going to hear him do anything but praise the cloud, but I want to no not only that they are saving processing power but also what standard they are setting by being able to save it.

I imagine Toy's R Us wont be the first place we learn of release dates for either console.

Yea I dont see that happening. I think both consoles will launch before Black Friday. Even if they are sold out for black Friday atleast gamers doing their black Friday shopping will be able to pick up games for the console at the time.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

Not the first time I've seen those dates, think they'll both be out by then though too.
