Re: Xbox One
I see the videogame DRM was only a part of the always on movement they were trying to sell.
Always on would be gold for these advertisers.Comment

Re: Xbox One
We didn't have specific info on how they would do it at the time, but people have been talking about this in general for a while now. This article is just dealing more with the specifics of the same general conversation. That the Xbone would be used to spy on you was a given for a lot of us.
Obviously you have missed the mentions of restricted use PPV and other purchase media where it will not let you view it with more than the user limit in the room.
This doesn't have anything to do with gaming. I'm fine with using kinect in gaming as you are using it during the game and when the game is over, it ends. These articles are saying it will not end there. It will continue to monitor you as long as it has power. You are paying them to monitor you. Its not like other technology where you can turn those features off.
Its one thing if they are giving you something in exchange for giving up your privacy, but as it appears now, you are paying Microsoft for the system, being charged for Live, and giving Microsoft all your valuable marketing information.
Microsoft can then take that info and market stuff to you. They also could sell that info and make even more money off it to other companies. There are a ton of companies that would love a camera in your house 24/7.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Xbox One
I'd be more concerned about that article if all of the 'scary' quotes didn't come from articles more than a year old about technology they're already using.
This is sophisticated technology that's been used to allow people to participate in two polls and letting people say 'Xbox Tweet' and 'Xbox More' to share and find out more about an ad.

Re: Xbox One
Slowing down on both ends for the most part. Sony had some Vita stuff that was nice and Microsoft had the SmartGlass stuff which was also nice. But after announcing the release date there's not too much going on. I'm ready for these things to come out so the ignorant fans on both sides will shut up more (not talking about on this site) and be too busy playing their games to post.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Xbox One
So I looked on amazon and see that the release date for watch dogs on the xb1 is the 19th and for the ps4 it is the 12th. So will games be out before the consoles hit stores?Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yeah, people were saying that in response to others saying it would be used to spy on you. Those original posters were pretty much shouted down as paranoid conspiracy theorists. After rumors about the Xbone started coming out in earnest a large amount of the conversation in this thread dealt with potential privacy concerns. We got responses from defenders ranging from people are just being paranoid to people shouldn't care about privacy because they have cell phones to people just want to be stuck in the dark ages.

That was posted back in February.
The amount of money MS could make from this, they should be offering 1 free Xbox 1 per address including Xbox live.

Re: Xbox One
The risk to the company, to stockholders, the potential for mandatory monitoring and regulation if not outright bans in some territories that accompanies that type of violation if found doing some of the things you are suggesting, there's too much risk in the 'oh they could do a bunch of stuff and never tell anyone' arguments many of you suggest.
I'm not defending the rhetoric, there's some pie in the sky ideas around NUads, but then after saying all of that they let you vote on a question while viewing a video with Kinect, and let you say 'Xbox Tweet' to share the experience - which was then heralded as a success by standard advertising metrics. Both things that had to be explicitly opened from an ad in the least obtrusive spot on the 360 dashboard that could have just as easily been ignored.
I just don't see the FUD coming true in this case.Comment

Curious as to OSers thoughts on this.

Re: Xbox One
Honestly I just want to play video games. I don't want to tweet stuff, post it to facebook, interact with advertisements, or have a little camera hooked up to my console that records what i do, and when my heart beats faster. I have a bunch of other devices that can connect with Netflix and everything else.
I just want to play flipping video games. If these resources were devoted to making higher quality games instead of figuring out how to leverage every last penny out of me, I would be far happier and maybe we'd have a good football game.
I just want video games. What is so difficult about that??Comment
