The Kinect team recommends on top of the TV, but that's mostly impossible without a mount. Almost everybody puts it at the base of their TV. However, you really just want to put it somewhere it meets the following criteria:

It can see your whole living room/play space
It's near the TV, so when you talk to it, you don't need to look somewhere else
It's not sitting directly in front of your center surround sound speaker

That last one is sometimes tough to get around, but having it directly in front of the speakers makes it tough to get your voice recognized when you have stuff playing.

Mine is sitting on top of the surround speaker which I think causes similar interference. Need to get a mount for the top of the TV.

For those looking for an affordable mount solution for their kinect. I used a medal book end with some velcro.

In total everything ran me $10.00. The kinect looks great with my TV.

It's much better than the last gen kinect, not as good as using the headset but it doesn't sound bad by any means.

Question for anyone who bought the day one edition of Forza, where are my free cars? I used the code for the 3 cars but they don't show in my garage, are they online only (I haven't ventured online yet so no idea), just curious if my code messed up or something.

Agree that is less than ideal, on Windows 8 a snapped radio station shows the playlist by default.
