If they'd have done that the system would have been an epic fail.

Yep, a completely digital-only/content streaming system is way too ambitious and would have failed miserably. The mass market just isn't ready or capable to support that on a broad enough level. Using content size and other reasoning is a way to save face, IMO.

MS got caught up on the idea of setting a new standard for consoles and got ahead themselves. Thankfully, they wised up and listened to the backlash. I'm enjoying what the Xbox One has become.

I mean most people don't honestly(at least myself thinking) go out a purchase blu ray's to play anymore when they can be lazy and just rent it for 24 hour off the vudu or amazon app for $5 in HD and all that good stuff.

Erm... PLENTY of people purchase blu-rays.

The bitrate (and therefore audio/video quality) blows the compressed stuff out of the water.

Unless you think you're streaming 50+ gigs of A/V every time you watch Netflix.

                I agree with this.

Glad they have Blu-ray, but I usually just rent them from Redbox, I don't buy movies much anymore. We don't watch our collection very often at all, waste of money.

Yup, I can't remember the last time I watched a rented DVD/Blu Ray. The only movies I have purchased are the Disney's movies for my kids because they watch the same thing over and over and over....

The ones we watch over and over I actually buy digitally (Finding Nemo, Pitch Perfect), so it's on my son's kindle, in any web browser, etc. Anything we know we'll get a lot of mileage from the extras or is something otherwise exceptional to us/we want to support we'll buy the Blu-Ray.

Not to mention it makes me feel very uneasy about shifting to all-streaming/always on the internet when our internet is structured the way it is. I hate tiered access and speeds and frankly don't trust the major telecomms to play fairly.

For anyone who is using WiFi to connect their Xbox One to their home network, are you having to randomly reconnect to your wireless network after turning on your console from the sleep mode/standby state? About once a week, my One won't see any wireless networks (including networks outside my house) and I will have to go through the process again of reconnecting to my network.

I also wish it remembered the passwords/settings from all of the WiFi networks you have previously used so they don't need to be re-entered every time...very annoying.

Yeah, that's why the Kinect is included, to provide the option to use it or not, right?

You know, they could have taken the drive out, saved on hardware and licensing, and delivered the Xbox One cheaper. Then, if you want the option, buy a BluRay player. They aren't even that expensive anymore.

Personally, I watched a BluRay the other night, and it was nice, but not worth the hassle to do on a regular basis. I would have rather had a cheaper console and 100% digital content. But I wasn't provided that "option."

There's a difference though..MS knew that by not including a Kinect w each console that devs wouldn't utilize it as much due to the uncertainty of not knowing how many users had the Kinect or not. Whereas not having a disc drive wouldn't offer any substantive gain for them over a short price break and would have greatly hurt the systems sales and usability.

As for your suggestion about buying a separate BluRay player, the whole concept of Xbox One is to be "the one" device that does it all in your living room so I think you are completely missing the point of Microsofts goal for the future of the system..

Are you on Comcast? I read a story yesterday about XB1 wifi problems on Comcast due to IPv6 issues. Being worked on by both parties.
