In the case they don't make a dime there either.
If they do that it kills Gamefly. Gamefly purchases thousands of games each month and that hurts their bottom line. It would be foolish of them to think that if people cant rent games, they wont buy them.

Wasn't this the same rumor with the PS3 that never transpired? Don't see it happening.

        Sure was.

Source: A series of sources conveniently amalgamated by Joystiq. The official story: "We have made no official statement regarding coding for PS3 games."--Sony spokesperson. What we heard: Given the billions of dollars it sinks into its movie, music, and games divisions, it's little wonder Sony is...

Now if both do that then I guess I'll have to rethink it.....
I'm just very used to buying used to save money etc... Not to mention trying to recoup some money be trading or selling would be a big hit to me.
$60 for a game isn't cheap, and the industry is in for a shock when they expect the same sales they have now while blocking used games.

I will never purchase a console that blocked used or borrowed games. There would be hell in the media if Sony put out a bluray player that blocks rented movies, but it's somehow okay to do with games.

Just because Sony backed off of it before the ps3 launched in 2006 doesn't mean it's still off the table. The industry would love it and would try it today if they could. They can't wait until the digital distribution future where consumers pay $60 for limited licenses instead of physical discs that can be sold.

            Good luck with that.

Also at that no used games rumor. Wtf is that nonsense? I doubt it's true (and I'm sure more than half of these rumors coming out every day won't end up being true), but if it is.....wow.

No rentals? If anything it'll cut into sales.
They're either going to have to stop making 6 hour games or start having Steam like sales.

It's going to happen eventually. The only reason this new xbox even has a blu ray drive at all is because internet bandwidth is still too low to download games/movies in a reasonable amount of time. Once that happens, say goodbye to rentals and used games. It'll be replaced with downloads, demos, and F2P with in game purchases.

I cant wait to see a detailed specification and feature list for this thing. As the year moves on we should be getting more details.....E3 should be amazing this year.

I just found this about the potential grahics card, the radeon 6670....seems kinda week:

Granted, a console does not need as powerful a card as a PC but the author brings up a good point about this being old tech already and by the time of release in fall of 2013 it will be ancient.

The tech in current consoles was already old when they were released yet people in this thread think we don't need new consoles.

Uh have you guys seen how big those high end video cards are? Unless you want the xbox 720 to be the size of a PC, there's no way they are going to be able to fit a high in graphics card in a console with proper ventilation and still keep it affordable. They already had the RRoD with the 360 the first go round.

Besides there's some trade off between high end graphics cards and developers being lazy....gears looks damn good on current gen technology, and they've squeezed out every ounce of processing power they could with the unreal engine. I can't imagine it looking much better than it already does.

Good point, guess a graphics card the size of an aircraft carrier would not be a good idea

I can get full games on Steam faster than demos on XBL so it's not just connections on the user end. Plus they'd both have to start respecting their customers and the thought of either of them actually doing that...

If you enjoy playing AAA video games with high production values such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, Uncharted, Forza, Red Dead Redemption, or what have you, you will pay $60 - at least - for a AAA video game. AAA video games cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make, as the programmers, engineers, artists, designers, QA testers, etc. who make these games have to be fairly compensated for their work.

Admittedly I say this from the biased position of a video game developer.

Maybe if that $60 trickled down appropriately among those jobs. But we all know by the time it reaches the staff, there's like half of the $60 left.
